For those who missed out on the third stimulus check issued in 2021, the deadline to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit has already passed. The IRS set April 15, 2025, as the final date for taxpayers to file for this $1,400 payment. If you did not receive the full amount or are eligible for a rebate, you had to submit your tax return by this date. Unfortunately, any unclaimed funds are now part of the U.S. Treasury's coffers.
The 'DOGE Dividend' Proposal
While a new federal check may not be imminent, there are some bold proposals on the table. President
Donald Trump
has mentioned the idea of a 'DOGE Dividend,' where Americans could potentially receive $5,000 payments sourced from savings found in the Department of Government Efficiency (
DOGE
).
Live Events
This initiative would aim to distribute money to taxpayers. While the idea has garnered some attention, it remains unclear whether this plan will move forward, and critics have raised concerns over its economic feasibility.
Moreover,
Elon Musk
stepping back from his role in DOGE raises questions about the plan's future viability.
State Relief Initiatives
Some states are stepping up with their own relief programs. New York has already announced a 2025 stimulus payment based on 2024 tax filings. These checks will be sent to eligible residents later this year as part of the state's ongoing efforts to ease the financial burden on households struggling with rising costs.
The payments are expected to be sent later this year, but specific details are still pending.
While some lawmakers continue to advocate for more relief, no official legislation has been passed. For now, taxpayers should focus on filing their taxes accurately and on time and keep an eye on potential state-level assistance that may provide some financial relief.
The future of federal stimulus checks remains uncertain.

Big Beautiful Bill: Tax, subsidy cut on clean energy trigger outrage
Washington: The US Senate's proposed cuts to clean energy subsidies and the introduction of a new tax on wind and solar energy in its version of President Donald Trump's tax and spending bill have drawn searing criticism from business and labour groups since they were unveiled over the weekend, with some arguing the moves could lead to power shortages, raise power prices and kill jobs. The pushback, which includes a swipe from Trump ally and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, comes as senators started voting on a potentially long list of amendments to the bill on Monday, giving renewable energy advocates on both sides of the political spectrum a last window to push for changes. "Taxing energy production is never good policy, whether oil & gas or, in this case, renewables," said Neil Bradley, policy director of the US Chamber of Commerce, in a post on X over the weekend. "Electricity demand is set to see enormous growth & this tax will increase prices. It should be removed." "This would be incredibly destructive to America!" Musk posted on X, saying the cuts could endanger the development of energy-hungry artificial intelligence technology, among other things. Trump has said he intends to maximise US energy production, with a focus on fossil fuels, in part to ensure the power industry can supply the AI industry's growth. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo But he has also promised to wipe out subsidies for renewables. The Senate bill would roll back incentives for wind, solar, batteries and other clean energy technologies created by President Joe Biden's 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, and add a new tax on these projects if they cannot prove their products are made without Chinese parts. Energy secretary Chris Wright on Monday seemed to brush off warnings about the loss of generation capacity amid soaring demand. "The more we load our grid with intermittent generation, the worse the grid performs during times of maximum demand," he posted on the social media platform. Sean McGarvey, president of the North America's Building Trades Unions, which represents over 3 million construction workers, blasted the bill's impact on jobs. "If enacted, this stands to be the biggest job-killing bill in the history of this country. Simply put, it is the equivalent of terminating more than 1,000 Keystone XL pipeline projects," he said in a statement, referring to an oil pipeline project blocked by Biden's administration. Republican leaders are rushing to overcome internal fights over the massive tax and spending package. Senate Republicans were still at odds Monday over how much to cut from Medicaid and other social safety-net programmes. Trump remained in contact with lawmakers Monday, as he was over the weekend, said an official who added the White House is optimistic the president would get the legislation to sign by Friday.

Protectionism among biz challenges: HUL chairman
Mumbai: Geopolitical uncertainties and rising protectionism are posing challenges for businesses globally, and companies will have to respond with speed and agility to protect their growth as they navigate these disruptions, said Nitin Paranjpe, non-executive chairman at Hindustan Unilever (HUL). "The impact that technology will have on us, the impact that climate change will have on us is have to gear up to deal with it, but the direction is known..." "The new thing which is happening is the geopolitical uncertainty, the world order as we have understood and known for the last several decades has been upended. That causes challenges for businesses. Decades-long globalisation suddenly giving way to protectionism and even that is not so a challenge," Paranjpe told TOI in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the company's annual general meeting (AGM) at its headquarters here on Monday. A strong domestic consumption and lesser reliance on export-led growth places India on a better footing compared to other countries like China, and India might even have an "opportunity through all the resetting of the global order," Paranjpe said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo This means businesses may escape the first-order effects of global uncertainties, but companies will have to deal with the second-order effects, Paranjpe explained, adding that traditional "payback periods" for firms will start getting challenged. "Trying to predict the future is a fool's errand, it's simply impossible. Therefore, finding a way by which you can structurally build in agility and the capacity to respond becomes far, far more important. Predictability has reduced, and so we need greater agility. As you start thinking of outcomes (from a business planning perspective), you have to start thinking of paybacks which will be shorter. That's what the world has to now deal with," Paranjpe said. To create a developed India, economic growth alongside environmental sustainability and social progress need to be prioritised, and India Inc has a major role to play in it, Paranjpe said in his AGM speech. HUL's mantra in this rapidly changing world is speed and agility. "We are embedding technology across our value chain to enhance agility and resilience," Paranjpe said. As companies cater to changing consumer sentiments and preferences in a growing digital world that's reshaping trends, HUL's task is cut out: to craft a portfolio that can address people across the spectrum. The company's strategy will be to build tech-powered capabilities to service consumers. "We have to become world-class in sensing change and build world-class capabilities to respond to that change by leveraging technology in a way we have never done before," Paranjpe said.
