Bike stunts on Noida Expressway trigger city's highest traffic fines
Earlier this month, a man was seen doing stunts on a bike in Sector 112, and later issued the highest fine issued for traffic violation. "In that case we issued a challan of Rs 63,500 – which is the highest so far," said traffic sub-inspector Vinay Tomar.
The rider was fined for dangerous driving, violation of traffic rules, disobedience of any direction lawful given by authority and violation of PUC norms.
The five-second clip of the most recent incident, which was widely circulated on social media on Sunday, showed the duo riding without helmets, with the woman seated reverse on the fuel tank facing the man, while holding a helmet behind the driver's back.
CCTV cameras installed on the expressway also recorded the act. Cops took suo-moto cognizance of the video and, based on the footage, traced the vehicle using the number plate and issued an e-challan around 1.40pm on Sunday.
DCP (Traffic) Lakhan Singh Yadav said that the challan of Rs 53,500 was issued under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, including 181, 184, 184A, and 194D, which pertain to dangerous driving, riding without a helmet, disobedience of lawful directions, and other traffic violations.

Police said that such reckless behaviour not only endangers the lives of the riders but also puts other commuters at risk. Strict enforcement measures are being taken to discourage stunts and rash driving on expressways, cops added.
Between Jan and May this year, Noida traffic police issued nearly 11 lakh challans, of which over 6 lakh were for riding without helmets – a stark reminder of the ongoing challenge to enforce road safety regulations across the city.
In 2024, traffic police issued 27 lakh fines – nearly 7,000 per day. The maximum number of fines were issued to bikers without a helmet (17 lakh), followed by jumping red light (1 lakh) and speeding (86,000).
During the same period, 966 people were injured and 462 died in 1,165 road accidents in the district.
Anurag Kulshrestha, president of road safety NGO TRAX, said that there needs to be stricter enforcement of traffic norms on the roads to prevent violations.
"Also, the penalty should be high enough to make a deterrence among road users. Then if the challans are issued, there should be a proper recovery mechanism. In the current scenario, the issued challans remain pending and people continue to drive. In comparison, in foreign countries, in three violations the driving licenses are suspended for two years.
Similar enforcement measures should be applied here," he said.
Recently, a trend has emerged of bikers racing on the Noida Expressway during the weekends. Police usually stop these bike racers, who come here from Delhi and Gurgaon, and travel to the Zero Point via Noida Expressway. The high-speed bikers not only endanger their own lives but also raise safety concerns for others too while participating in an unconventional racing format on expressways, police said.

Indian cryptocurrency exchange CoinDCX has suffered a security breach, resulting in theft of $44.2 million, or ₹378 crore, even as the founders took to X to reassure that customer funds remained unaffected and safe, with the compromise limited to an internal operational account. The total exposure is being absorbed entirely by CoinDCX, using the company's treasury reserves, the company said in a First Incident Report released on Sunday. According to the report, on July 19, at 4 a.m., CoinDCX security systems detected an incident involving unauthorised access to one of its accounts on the partner exchange, leading to a financial exposure of about $44 million. The incident once again puts the spotlight on mounting security threats in the highly volatile world of cryptocurrencies. Last year, crypto exchange WazirX faced a hack in India, leading to the loss of more than $230 million, and marking one of the biggest such heists in India. The theft had prompted a thorough examination of safety measures and eroded sentiments. CoinDCX co-founders Sumit Gupta and Neeraj Khandelwal took to the social media platform X to address the situation, confirming that the attack was the result of a sophisticated server breach, targeting an internal wallet, not the ones holding customer assets. The incident was first flagged by blockchain investigator ZachXBT, following which the exchange made the disclosure public. "Today, one of our internal operational accounts -- used only for liquidity provisioning on a partner exchange -- was compromised due to a sophisticated server breach. I confirm that the CoinDCX wallets used to store customer assets are not impacted and are completely safe. This won't cause any loss to our customers. CoinDCX will be bearing the full amount," Mr. Gupta said. "The total amount lost was USD 44Mn out of our treasury assets. Coindcx Treasury will be bearing these losses," Mr. Khandelwal wrote. Following this, users rushed to check their balances, leading to a spike in withdrawal requests. The sudden surge in activity led to CoinDCX's portfolio APIs, which display user balances and transaction histories, becoming jammed and unresponsive. For several hours, many were unable to even see their holdings on the app, adding fuel to rumours and anxiety online. The co-founders later updated that Portfolio APIs have been restored. Affected infrastructure has been completely isolated, and CoinDCX operations continue to run normally, the company said. CERT-In, or the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, has been informed about the incident. Detailed forensics with two globally reputed security agencies is being carried out, and reports will be shared for public benefit, it added. "CoinDCX services remain fully operational. Trading activity, INR deposits and INR withdrawals continue. INR withdrawals below Rs 5 lakhs will reflect in your account within 5 hours, while withdrawals above Rs 5 lakhs will be processed within 72 hours. The incident was isolated and has no impact on your portfolio access or operations," the company stated. Social media is flooded with mixed reactions. While some praised CoinDCX for absorbing the losses and protecting user funds, others criticised the delay in public disclosure and raised concerns over the broader security of crypto platforms in India. AI-based facial identification to track sex abusers at railway stations
Representational Image NEW DELHI: The Union govt has informed SC that it plans to set up Artificial Intelligence-based facial recognition systems at seven major railway stations, including Mumbai CST and New Delhi, to curb crimes against women. The number of sexual offenders recorded in the National Database on Sexual Offenders (NDSO) has crossed the 20-lakh mark, it further told the court. Responding to serious concerns raised, through a PIL, by Supreme Court Women Lawyers' Association over the rise in crimes against women, the ministry of home affairs (MHA), in an affidavit, detailed the steps being taken to address the issue and said apart from railway stations, safe city projects have been implemented in eight cities - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Lucknow - by local police and municipal corporations. The projects focus on improving safety infrastructure by installing CCTV cameras with facial recognition or automatic number plate recognition, alongside smart lighting systems, and use of drones to monitor high-risk areas, the Centre said. A bench headed by Justice Surya Kant is scheduled to hear the PIL on Monday. The MHA said NDSO data includes names, addresses, photographs and fingerprint details of individuals involved in sexual offences like rape, gangrape, eve teasing, stalking, and child abuse. As of date, it has 20.28 lakh entries available for use by all police stations and law-enforcement agencies in the country through the Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS). However, the women lawyers' association, represented by senior advocate Mahalakshmi Pavani, said additional measures are required as National Crime Records Bureau statistics show a spike in crimes against women from 58.8 per lakh in 2018 to 66.4 per lakh in 2022. In a rejoinder to the Centre's affidavit, Pavani said, "In 2022, there were 23.66 lakh cases of crime against women pending trial, of which only 1.5 lakh were decided in 2022 and only 38,136 ended in conviction". Gurgaon: During the last 18 months, police have seized over 370 weapons from gangsters or criminals, out of which 222 pistols were manufactured in Madhya Pradesh and 148 country-made pistols were produced in Uttar Pradesh. These recoveries were made from Jan 2024 till June 2025. In fact, pistol and country-made pistols (katta) — manufactured at several illegal firearms factories in MP and UP respectively — are being supplied to gangs in NCR. Pistols are priced between Rs 15,000 and Rs 1 lakh, while country-made pistols are available for Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000. According to police, gangsters, based abroad, supplied arms to their members in India. Another officer said illegal pistols are readily available in various parts of Madhya Pradesh, such as Burhanpur, Khargone, Dhar and Khandwa. "A Sikligar community in MP makes these weapons for their livelihood. They buy iron rods in bulk from scrap and then mould them into weapons. Many arms factories are operating there in the residential area too. Local police shield them if we try to nab them," the officer said. The situation is similar in Uttar Pradesh, where illegal firearm factories are active in regions including Meerut, Aligarh, Sambhal and Ghaziabad. UP Police, in collaboration with the STF, seized 300 guns and 50,000 bullets from an illegal factory operating in Mirzaganj, Lucknow last month.
