Iraq, Saudi Arabia review latest regional developments
During their phone conversation, the two leaders emphasized the need to prevent conflicts from expanding and military operations from escalating following Israel's recent aggression against Iran and its ongoing military operations against defenseless civilians in Gaza, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
The two sides highlighted the importance of exercising restraint, engaging in a dialogue, and refraining from ignoring international laws and resolutions.
The Iraqi prime minister and the Saudi crown prince also emphasized that international and UN bodies should play their role in reducing tensions.
The two leaders' discussion followed a US initiative that led to a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel.
Earlier on Tuesday, Baghdad expressed hope that the ceasefire would represent a meaningful step toward a long-term settlement to the current issues through peaceful and diplomatic means.
The ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel entered into force early on Tuesday, following a statement by US President Donald Trump calling for a total ceasefire after 12 days of fighting.

Governor Abdul Qader al-Dakhil said the decision honors the victims and acknowledges the deep scars left by the atrocities, adding that all government institutions across the province have been directed to observe a minute of silence in remembrance of those killed. The August 2014 ISIS offensive on Sinjar led to mass executions, kidnappings, and the enslavement of thousands of Yazidis. Kurdish Peshmerga forces recaptured the district in late 2015, and two years later, Iraqi forces declared the full liberation of Nineveh and the final defeat of ISIS. Many Yazidi families are still searching for loved ones. As of August 2025, official data estimates nearly 2,600 women and girls remain missing. Recovery efforts continue, as authorities attempt to identify bodies found in mass graves across the region. Iraqi investigators have so far located 93 Yazidi mass graves in Sinjar and al-Baaj, though 32 remain unopened. Fewer than 700 sets of remains have been recovered, with only 243 formally identified and returned to their families. According to United Nations estimates, ISIS left behind more than 200 mass graves in Iraq, believed to contain up to 12,000 victims.

"A technical committee came to the Kurdistan Region this morning. Their job is to follow up and investigate the recent drone attacks," Araji said. There were nearly 20 drone attacks on the Kurdistan Region in the past month. One of the primary targets was oil infrastructure. The latest incident was on Wednesday when an explosive-laden drone crashed but did not explode near a village in the Makhmour district of Erbil province. The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has blamed Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF, or Hashd al-Shaabi) - charges strongly denied by Baghdad. "After completing the investigations, all members of the joint committee will present their recommendations to the commander-in-chief of the armed forces," Araji said. Araji met with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on Saturday. He 'reviewed details of his recent visit to the Kurdistan Region, leading a specialized investigation delegation, to investigate the attacks that targeted oil fields,' the foreign ministry said. Hussein said it was important to identify those responsible for the attacks and to preserve Iraq's energy security. The Kurdistan Region has lost nearly 200,000 barrels of oil production due to the drone attacks, Aziz Ahmad, deputy chief of staff to KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, said in mid-July. The KRG has criticized the federal government for failing to prevent or investigate the drone threats.
