HC seeks NIA reply on Rashid's plea against terror charges

. NEW DELHI: Delhi high court Thursday sought NIA 's reply on Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh's plea challenging the framing of charges against him in a terror funding case.A bench of justices Vivek Chaudhary and Shalinder Kaur also called for the trial court record in the matter and listed the plea for hearing on Oct 6. The hearing on Rashid's plea challenging a trial court order that asked him to bear travel expenses of Rs 1.44 lakh a day for attending Parliament session in custody between July 24 and Aug 4 is also pending. Sheikh has also sought regular bail, arguing he has already spent over five years in custody and the delayed trial is unlikely to be concluded soon. "Due to his passionate engagement in mainstream politics, he became a potential target for those who preached separatist ideologies, including militant outfits, labelling him as a traitor," the plea submitted. "A mere political comment on the hanging of Afzal Guru or criticising a judgment of courts cannot be construed to mean an association with terrorists," it submitted.
