Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez are marrying today—with the ceremony relocated to the historic Arsenale hall in Venice's Castello district amid protests.
As protests erupt across Venice over Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez's star-studded wedding, the journalist and pilot continues to dominate global headlines.
The couple, engaged since 2023, was forced to relocate their wedding venue due to anti-Bezos demonstrations, with banners like "No Space for Bezos" unfurled across the city. Activists from the "No Space for Bezos" collective claimed victory after the ceremony was shifted to the historic Arsenale hall in the Castello district for security reasons.
While the lavish wedding has drawn the ire of locals and overtourism campaigners, Sánchez's personal journey—from a dyslexic student in Albuquerque to a spacefaring media entrepreneur—paints a compelling portrait of resilience, ambition, and reinvention.
A dyslexia diagnosis changed her academic outlook
Born on December 19, 1969, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Lauren Wendy Sánchez was raised by her father, Ray Sánchez, an aviation businessman, and her mother, Eleanor Sánchez, a former Los Angeles assistant deputy mayor.

As a "third-generation Mexican-American," Sánchez grew up participating in student government and cheerleading at Del Norte High School before graduating in 1987.
After enrolling at the University of New Mexico to study acting and speech, Sánchez transferred to El Camino College in California. It was there that a professor noticed her learning differences and helped identify her dyslexia. "It changed everything," she later said, as reported by
People magazine
.
The diagnosis empowered Sánchez to pursue advocacy work with the International Dyslexia Association, supporting educational equity and neurodiversity.
Following community college, she completed a degree in communications at the University of Southern California. Sánchez also briefly dabbled in modeling, winning the international Models World Magazine Cover Girl Competition in 1990.
From local newsrooms to Emmy wins and FOX primetime
Sánchez's career began humbly as a desk assistant at KCOP-TV in Los Angeles.
She worked her way up the ladder, taking on anchor roles in Phoenix at KTVK-TV before joining Extra as a correspondent. At Fox Sports Net, she earned an Emmy nomination and later joined Fox 11 News at Ten and Good Day L.A.. Her team at UPN News 13 won an Emmy, as reported by KTTV.
She was the original host of
So You Think You Can Dance
in 2005 and has frequently appeared on shows like
Larry King Live
and
The View.
From aerial filmmaker to space traveler
After earning her pilot's license at 40, Sánchez founded Black Ops Aviation, the first female-owned aerial film company. In April 2025, she became one of the first female journalists to travel to space aboard Blue Origin's NS-31, alongside Gayle King and others. "It's something I never imagined possible," Sánchez said of the flight, as quoted by
CBS Mornings
.
In 2024, she authored a bestselling children's book,
The Fly Who Flew to Space
, inspired by her struggle with dyslexia. She was also honored with the Elling Halvorson Vertical Flight Hall of Fame Award for her aviation work.
Driving climate impact and social change
As vice-chair of the Bezos Earth Fund, Sánchez has spearheaded over $400 million in climate-focused philanthropy, including restoring 1.6 million acres of US land. She's also involved in the Bezos Day One Fund and border-relief group
This Is About Humanity
, supporting migrant families.
Despite the glittering spectacle in Venice, Sánchez's own story is one of grit, ambition, and transformation—from a struggling student to a pioneering voice in media, aviation, and space exploration.

The 55-year-old former journalist, licensed pilot and author tied the knot with the Amazon and Blue Origin founder in Venice, Italy with their friends and family by their side. The bride who changed her Instagram handle to 'laurensanchezbezos' quickly after the nuptials and wiped out her previous posts unrelated to the wedding, shared photos of the awaited ceremony on her social media. She shared photos following the nuptials where she and Bezos could be seen walking down the aisle after the ceremony. In another post, she revealed her dress designed by the luxury brand Dolce & Gabbana. "Not just a gown, a piece of poetry," she captioned the post. "Thank you @dolcegabbana for the magic you made." In a video posted by Vogue Magazine on their social media handle, Sanchez can be seen posing in her dress addressing her choice of wedding fit. "I'm just like so emotional. The bride completed the look with Dolce & Gabbana Alta Gioielleria Miracolo earrings and a veil. "I've never had a dress designed for me like this -- something so personal," she said to Vogue. When it came to choosing her gown she said how her choice went from 'a simple, sexy modern dress' to 'something that evokes a moment and where I am right now.' She also shared that she researched brides in the 1950s for some design inspiration and saw a photograph of Sophia Loren wearing "high lace, up to the neck and I said, 'That's it. That's the dress." What's interesting to know is that Sanchez kept the dress a surprise even from her groom. "I almost gave in!" she said. "But I want it to be a surprise. As you get a little older, not many things surprise you. I can't wait to see his face."

Is the Joker worth pulling in Persona 5 The Phantom X?

(Image via Atlus) In Persona 5: The Phantom X (P5X), the hype around Joker's limited-time banner is real, and for good reason. Joker's a limited-time 5-star unit with major damage potential and serious nostalgia value. But is he just fan service, or does he genuinely shift your game? Here's everything you need to know! Joker is OP in Persona 5: The Phantom X? As the iconic leader of the Phantom Thieves, Joker isn't just here for nostalgia. He brings serious firepower, flexibility, and a toolkit that can carry your team through early and mid-game content with style. In P5X, he's not just a story icon — he's a gacha unit with impressive skills, especially in the Curse element category. If you loved him in the OG Persona 5 , he's back, upgraded, and ready to carry teams in a new way. *UPDATED* CURSED THIEF! BEST JOKER GUIDE & BUILD! | PERSONA 5: THE PHANTOM X What Makes Joker Worth Pulling? Here's why the Joker is worth pulling in P5X: 1. Reliable Curse DPS Joker brings insane Curse-type AoE damage, making him one of the top-tier damage dealers in the early meta. His skill scaling is strong even without needing his 5-star weapon, which is a rare W in gacha design. 2. Low Investment, High Reward You don't need to whale. Joker performs exceptionally well with 4-star setups and shines even without maxed constellations or 'phantom resonance.' He's beginner-friendly but still endgame-viable. 3. Synergizes Well Pair him with Rin (a free unlock with enough pulls), and Joker's potential skyrockets. Rin debuffs enemies, boosting Joker's output massively. It's a duo you'll keep using across story and PvE challenges. What Are the Disadvantages of Pulling Joker in Persona 5: The Phantom X? Here are some downsides of pulling the Joker in P5X: 1. Future Power Creep Joker is the first limited 5-star. That means more powerful characters will eventually enter the roster. Pulling for Joker now means locking in strong value early, but it could come at the cost of saving up for future banners. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Forget Furosemide, Use This Household Item To Help Drain Edema Fluid WellnessGuide Learn more Undo 2. Dependent on Synergy His full potential depends on other units like Rin. Without that support, his damage may not feel as explosive as other standalone DPS units. Wonder meets Joker - Persona 5: The Phantom X ( Global ) Limited-Time Only – Should That Matter? Yes and no. If you're a F2P player or on a tight budget, the limited window can feel stressful. But Joker isn't bait — he's genuinely powerful and usable across content. If you have the resources, pulling now gives you an early advantage, especially in mid-game stages where AoE damage is king. So, Should You Pull? Yes, of course. Unless you're saving for a very specific future unit or are extremely low on Meta Crystals, pulling for Joker is a smart move. He's stylish, strong, and surprisingly efficient and will get a solid return on your gacha investment. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.
