ALBANY, N.Y., July 14, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Natcast, the purpose-built, non-profit entity designated by the Department of Commerce to operate the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC) established by the CHIPS and Science Act, today celebrated the grand opening of the CHIPS for America Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) Accelerator, an NSTC facility (EUV Accelerator), with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony at the NY CREATES Albany NanoTech Complex in Albany, N.Y., where the facility is located. The EUV Accelerator, which officially began operations on July 1, 2025, is one of three announced NSTC flagship R&D facilities across the U.S.
'The grand opening of the EUV Accelerator marks a momentous milestone for Natcast, the NSTC, and the entire U.S. semiconductor ecosystem, as this state-of-the-art facility underscores our commitment to developing and advancing next-generation semiconductor technologies here in the U.S.,' said Deirdre Hanford, Natcast CEO. 'EUV lithography has emerged as the cornerstone technology to enable the high-volume production of smaller, faster, and more efficient chips. Through the EUV Accelerator, we are providing Natcast and NSTC Member researchers access to the critical tools needed to facilitate a wider range of research and a path to commercialization to advance U.S. leadership in the technologies of tomorrow.'
The celebratory event brought together leaders from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Natcast, NY CREATES, and NSTC Member organizations, as well as U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, U.S. Representative Paul Tonko, and Empire State Development COO Kevin Younis who all spoke to the significance of this milestone for U.S.-led semiconductor innovation and the impact this facility will have on advancing U.S. technology leadership, economic competitiveness, and national security for decades to come.
'This facility is really emblematic of what the NSTC program can do for the country,' said Jay Lewis, Director of the NSTC Program, CHIPS R&D Office, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Department of Commerce. 'One of our national strengths is our decentralized innovation. Our technical breakthroughs come from universities and businesses of all sizes, all over the country. But there can't be a facility like this at every university or in every state. So, broadening the utilization of the Albany NanoTech Complex for the research community provides centralized resources to make that decentralized system better and more effective.'
'America's first-ever National Semiconductor Technology Center is open for business! Today, the eyes of the world turn to Albany and Upstate NY as the next frontier where the scientific and engineering breakthroughs in chipmaking that we cannot even fathom today will happen. The ribbon cutting for this facility will be heard like a sonic boom and make it clear that America will lead the future of semiconductor technology,' said Senator Schumer. 'This is the day I long envisioned when I created the NSTC program in my CHIPS & Science Law. This facility will allow the nation's top scientists, universities, and companies to access the most advanced machinery in the world for developing microchips. It is the start of a historic new effort by the federal government to ensure the next generation of microchips will be developed here in America, here in the Capital Region, not China, not overseas. Today we help usher in America's next era of chip research and manufacturing, with Upstate NY leading the way.'
The opening of the NSTC EUV Accelerator showcases what public and private partnership can accomplish to bolster the state's workforce, while setting the stage for semiconductor research and manufacturing nationwide,' Governor Hochul said. 'Since taking office, I have remained committed to ensuring New York continues to lead in business, manufacturing, technology and research innovation, and this launch is only the beginning.'
'For years since the passage of the historic and transformational CHIPS and Science Act, we've been telling anyone who will listen that New York is an industry leader uniquely positioned to propel long-term American semiconductor innovation,' Congressman Tonko said. 'Today, we celebrate that successful push and the incredible new opportunities it unlocks in innovation, job creation, research, and so much more. I'm also thrilled that my Microelectronics Research for Energy Innovation Act will complement future EUV R&D. As we celebrate this grand opening and cheer all those who helped us get to this exciting moment, let's make certain that we, as partners in government, academia, and industry, continue to invest in the pioneering spirit of innovation that the Capital Region has long exemplified.'
'NY CREATES and our industry partners are proud to continue our two-decade-long history of advancing semiconductor technologies, and as Natcast cuts the ribbon to share with the world that the EUV Accelerator is operational and their offices at our Albany NanoTech Complex are open, this latest partnership undoubtedly represents a pivotal step forward in accelerating U.S. innovation over the long-term,' said Dave Anderson, President of NY CREATES. 'With accessible, standard numerical aperture EUV lithography capabilities available today, and access to High NA EUV equipment available next year, we are proud that NY CREATES is supporting the NSTC's mission and enabling groundbreaking research, impactful economic growth, and strategic workforce development, all of which are imperative for America's national security and economic leadership.'
The EUV Accelerator enables researchers from Natcast, NSTC Member organizations, and NY CREATES to work collaboratively to conduct research and development activities essential to driving faster commercialization of advanced semiconductor technology.
Key capabilities at the EUV Accelerator include:

JPMorgan gets a dealmaking boost as Wall Street recovered from tariff tumult

Second-quarter earnings at JPMorgan Chase were better than expected Tuesday, as a boost in dealmaking demonstrated how Wall Street recovered from the spring freeze that accompanied President Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs. Investment banking revenue at JPMorgan rose 8% from last year's second quarter to $2.5 billion due largely to advising on mergers and equity underwriting. Bond underwriting fell 2% but still exceeded analyst expectations. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon said investment banking activity "started slow but gained momentum as market sentiment improved" and "the U.S. economy remained resilient in the quarter." He also offered some notes of caution, however. "Significant risks persist," he added, "including from tariffs and trade uncertainty, worsening geopolitical conditions, high fiscal deficits and elevated asset prices." JPMorgan raked in a total of $15 billion of net income over the second quarter, a 17% drop compared to the same period last year. But that drop was largely due to the fact that the comparison was skewed by a one-time gain on its Visa shares recognized in the second quarter of last year. Excluding that one-time gain in addition to a $774 million income tax benefit, JPMorgan's profits rose 9% in the second quarter to $14.2 billion compared with $13.1 billion in the year-ago period. Traders also did well amid the chaos of the second quarter. JPMorgan's trading revenue rose by 8% to $8.9 billion, with both equities and fixed income markets businesses seeing jumps. Revenue rose across JPMorgan's sprawling consumer bank as well as its asset and wealth management division and its global investment and commercial banking unit. However, revenue fell in its corporate unit. JPMorgan raised its full year net interest income guidance by $1 billion to $95.5 billion. Excluding interest income from its markets business, it now expects to earn $92 billion, or $2 billion more in net interest income than it previously expected. JPMorgan's stock was flat Tuesday morning ahead of the open. It is up 20% since the beginning of the year. Trump's New Russia Policy Is A Turning Point But Will It Be Enough?

Trump announced a new policy towards Russia and supporting Ukraine on July 14th, 2025.(Photo by Anna ...) On July 14, in an announcement that caught both allies and critics off guard, former President Donald J. Trump issued his strongest rebuke yet of Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine. Trump's new Russia policy gave a 50-day deadline to the Russian leader: start peace negotiations or face a 100% tariff on all Russian exports, along with sanctions on third-party nations that continue to buy Russian oil. He also announced the sale of Patriot missile systems to NATO allies—though not directly to Ukraine—and restated his opposition to Ukraine joining NATO, sending troops, or invoking the Budapest Memorandum. Although these steps don't amount to a full strategic shift, they mark an important change: for the first time, Trump seems to recognize the threat posed by Putin not only to Europe but to global peace—and eventually, to American leadership. A Tentative Step in the Right Direction. This new stance warrants recognition. It embodies a growing realism that Moscow's aggression in Ukraine cannot be ignored, minimized, or postponed. But if this truly marks the start of a renewed American approach to international order, it will require more than tariffs and arms sales. It will need moral clarity, sustained commitment, and global leadership. (In the spirit of full disclosure, the writer is a past President of the Canada Ukraine Foundation and a senior advisor to the Centre for Eastern European Democracy in Toronto). There are compelling reasons why helping Ukraine is not only consistent with American interests—it is essential to preserving them. While Trump's new measures are a step forward, they also expose the limits of his policy: These omissions create critical gaps. A containment strategy that delays decisive support risks prolonging the war and emboldening other autocratic regimes. A Time to Lead, Not Hesitate President Trump's New Tone on Ukraine Is Appreciated, but It Cannot Mark the End of the Discussion. The stakes are too high. China is observing. Iran is too. America's allies are watching as well. Ukraine has earned our support not just through shared ideals but through action, sacrifice, and resilience. The cost of peace must not lead to abandoning those who have stood with us. America's legacy is built on resolve, not retreat. If we are to remain leaders of the free world, let this Trump's new Russia policy be the start of a broader strategy —one that balances strength and stands firm when freedom itself is at stake.

Building Lasting Customer Connection: From Engagement To Conversion

Manu Mathew is CEO & Cofounder of Cohora , a platform that helps brands drive customer growth, retention and advocacy through engagement. getty In an era where digital experiences shape every brand interaction, businesses are shifting from one-time transactions to long-term relationships. Creating an environment where customers feel genuinely connected is no longer a marketing tactic—it's a strategic imperative for sustained growth, loyalty and advocacy. The path from connection to conversion is no longer linear. It's shaped by how engaged, empowered and valued customers feel within a brand's ecosystem. This challenge has defined much of my career, first as co-founder and CEO of Visual IQ (acquired by Nielsen), then as President of the Americas at and now at Cohora, where we help brands turn customers into communities. Across each role, I've seen the same gap: Brands know retention is critical, but they often lack the tools and insight to go beyond transactional touchpoints and deliver real personalization. Retention isn't just about messaging. It's also about building the right environment, one where customers engage with the brand and each other, feel recognized and become advocates because they believe in what the brand represents. Too many companies treat engagement as a campaign rather than a culture. But the brands that win long-term view customer connection as a business asset, not just a marketing expense. Belonging In The Digital Age Today's customers expect more than a seamless transaction. They crave belonging, recognition and emotional connection. They want to feel part of something meaningful. According to Edelman's 2023 Brand Trust Report, 79% of consumers say they actively engage with brands beyond purchasing—by consuming content, offering feedback or participating in brand-led experiences. And 59% say brand trust makes them more likely to buy, while 67% say it increases their likelihood to stay loyal and advocate for that brand. When customers feel emotionally connected, the relationship moves from transactional to relational. This fosters stronger loyalty, increased lifetime value and word-of-mouth growth through referrals and user-generated content. The Harvard Business Review reinforces this: Emotionally connected customers are more than twice as valuable as merely satisfied ones. To build that emotional bond, brands are creating intentional communities through content ecosystems, digital engagement and loyalty programs that reflect customer identity and values. Brands that design intentional communities through content ecosystems, digitally facilitated interactions or loyalty initiatives fuel this emotional bond. According to McKinsey, 71% of consumers expect brands to deliver personalized interactions, and 76% get frustrated when a brand doesn't deliver on this. The good news: Brands that get personalization right generate 40% more revenue than their peers. When customers feel like they belong, relationships deepen, engagement increases and long-term value follows. What Real Engagement Looks Like Engagement is often reduced to a buzzword. But true engagement goes beyond likes or clicks. It's rooted in meaningful interactions, personalized experiences and shared ownership between brand and customer. • Authentic Engagement: The foundation of any strong customer relationship is two-way communication. Brands must not only speak but listen—actively and empathetically. Whether through social media, chat or in-app experiences, the interaction should feel personal, inclusive and human. Consider how beauty brand Glossier creates channels for two-way dialogue with customers. From Slack groups to feedback loops and micro-influencer campaigns, fans became part of the process. • Content That Delivers Value: People come back to brands that teach, inspire and entertain. Educational content, how-to videos, behind-the-scenes access and expert-led events build credibility and trust. For example, Nike Run Club invites users to train, compete and connect. • Personalization: Harness data to tailor experiences. Personalized offers, curated recommendations and custom interactions show customers they're understood and valued. Using customer information—such as skin type, preferences and purchase history—Sephora offers personalized product recommendations, pairings and interactive quizzes. This creates an experience that feels curated, not generic. • Incentives That Encourage Participation: Reward active engagement—offer points for reviews, recognition for social shares or early access to products. These mechanisms enhance involvement and build emotional investment. As BCG research found, "Companies with top loyalty programs find new ways to engage their loyalty communities, often turning customers into active brand advocates." • Customer Empowerment: Invite your audience to shape your brand. Feature real customer stories, crowdsource ideas or host design challenges. Like with Glossier's engagement campaigns mentioned above, when customers have a voice, they become natural advocates. While engagement is a key goal, its real power lies in its ability to drive revenue. Stronger relationships accelerate conversions—not just in purchases but in long-term behavior shifts. When customers feel invested, they educate others through authentic reviews and peer validation. This shortens the sales cycle and opens new doors for upselling and cross-selling through natural interactions. Most importantly, it anchors customers to your brand, driving loyalty that outlasts any promotion or campaign. Part of this process of creating a sustained connection requires the right infrastructure. For example, tools that unify CRM, content management, personalization and engagement features act as central hubs where customer interactions thrive. Dashboards, loyalty integrations and AI-powered insights can allow brands to evolve in real time, adapting to changing needs and behaviors. The key is to integrate engagement into every step of the customer journey, rather than treating it as an add-on. A Collaborative Future The next wave of brand success won't be driven by louder ads or deeper discounts. It will be fueled by deeper relationships. As digital fatigue rises, customers will gravitate toward brands that make them feel seen, heard and connected. In short, they'll choose brands that matter. To earn that connection, companies must shift from broadcasting to enabling, from selling to supporting and from control to collaboration. Customers don't just want products—they want purpose. They want to be part of something bigger. They want brands to reflect their values and invite their voices. Brands that embrace this shift will build more than customer bases—they'll build communities. The journey from connection to conversion is shaped by trust, relevance and relationship. In a world defined by automation and scale, real human connection is the edge that sets winning brands apart. By investing in long-term engagement, brands unlock something more powerful than a campaign—they create a durable engine for growth, driven by loyalty, advocacy and meaning. That is the true power of connection. Forbes Technology Council is an invitation-only community for world-class CIOs, CTOs and technology executives. Do I qualify?
