During this period, a total of 383,436 tonnes of goods crossed through the border. Customs revenue surged to 243 trillion Iranian rials, marking a 236% rise compared with the same period last year. The exports covered a diverse range of products, including agricultural produce, petrochemical derivatives, power plant equipment, construction materials, ceramics, tiles, as well as metal and plastic goods.
In addition to the expanding trade volume, more than 1.028 million travelers passed through the Mehran border during the two months. Kamari emphasized that customs clearance for passengers' belongings was handled with ''maximum efficiency'', crediting the efforts of Ilam's customs personnel.

Iraq continues to be China's fourth-largest oil supplier
Baghdad ( – The General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China revealed on Wednesday that Iraq continued to be China's fourth-largest oil supplier in the first half of 2025. According to China's General Administration of Customs, Iraq's oil exports to China during the first half of 2025 reached 32.78 million tons, approximately 239.3 million barrels, marking a four percent increase compared to the same period in 2024, when Iraqi oil exports to China amounted to 31.51 million tons, or 230.023 million barrels, Shafaq News reported. Iraq ranked fourth among the major countries exporting oil to China, trailing only Russia (49.11 million tons), Saudi Arabia (38.95 million tons), and Malaysia (38.43 million tons). In 2024, Iraq exported an average of 1.19 million barrels of oil per day to China, according to data issued by the US Institute for Energy Research (IER). The Chinese Ambassador to Iraq, Cui Wei, revealed in mid-January that the volume of trade exchange between Iraq and China reached $50 billion in 2024. The Chinese diplomat also indicated that cooperation between China and Iraq is not limited to one field but rather includes energy, electricity, transportation, communications, school projects, and other fields.

Iraq enforces quality certification for electronics and cigarettes
Shafaq News – Baghdad Iraq's Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control (COSQC) announced on Wednesday the implementation of a new directive requiring importers and producers to adopt a tracking system for all electrical goods and cigarettes as a first phase. The decision, issued under Council of Ministers for Economic Affairs Resolution No. 230339-Q for the year 2023, mandates that products falling under COSQC's inspection regulations must be traceable and accompanied by a valid pre-shipment inspection certificate. In its statement, COSQC confirmed that compliance will also require obtaining the Iraqi Quality Mark certificate under current regulations. 'Each approved item must display a barcode proving its certification.' The enforcement of the Iraqi Quality Mark will become mandatory starting September 15, 2025. After that date, any imported electrical appliances or cigarettes lacking the mark will be barred from entry—excluding goods exempted under Announcement No. 15 of 2024. According to the agency, the directive officially took effect on July 1, 2024, for all products specified in the statement.

Iraq lags in global technology advancement index
Shafaq News – Baghdad Iraq has placed near the bottom of the 2025 global technology advancement rankings, according to a new report published by the US-based CEOWORLD magazine. The magazine's assessment highlighted the rapid pace of global technological development, noting that only a handful of countries are significantly transforming how people live, work, and connect. These nations prioritize scientific research, invest heavily in digital infrastructure, and adopt advanced technologies without waiting for widespread public adoption. The United States topped the list, scoring 97.69 points out of 100, driven by its leadership in areas such as artificial intelligence and biotechnology. The country's innovation ecosystem—anchored by Silicon Valley, home to tech giants like Google and Apple—also includes developments in self-driving vehicles and advanced machine learning techniques. Israel followed in second place with 97.46 points, trailed by Taiwan (96.94), China (96.87), India (96.83), South Korea (96.49), Singapore (96.21), France (96.01), Japan (95.84), and Hong Kong (95.78). Among Arab countries, the UAE ranked highest at 36th globally. Saudi Arabia followed at 73rd, Tunisia at 126th, Bahrain at 142nd, and Qatar at 163rd. Iraq ranked 184th out of 197 countries, with a score of just 50.67. It placed slightly ahead of Yemen (46.36 points) and Pakistan (45.85 points), making it one of the lowest-ranking nations in terms of technological progress.
