She was found by her sister Agatha after she had been packing to go away with friends.
But she was discovered with "significant head trauma" with a firearm close to her at the property in Norton, near Malmesbury, Wilts, an inquest heard.
Grant Davies, area coroner for Wiltshire and Swindon, told the court: "Rosie was getting ready to go away with friends and was packing her belongings at home."
Davies added: "Upon checking the office in the house, Agatha found Rosie deceased and she was slumped over a firearm with significant head trauma."
Paramedics confirmed the death at 1.22pm hours that day.
Area coroner Davies said police 'have deemed the death as non-suspicious and there was no third-party involvement'.
A post-mortem was carried out by Dr Harry Haynes from Great Western Hospital to determine the cause of death.
The inquest was opened at Wiltshire and Swindon coroner's court and adjourned until October 25.
Rosie had been studying English Literature at Durham University.
Professor Wendy Powers, Principal of Durham's University College, said: 'University College staff and students are extremely saddened by the tragic death of Rosie Roche.
'Rosie was a first-year student studying for an English Literature degree. Rosie had settled into the University and College beautifully and had lots of friends.
'She was loved for her creativity, energy, her love of books, poetry and travel among many other talents. She will be sorely missed.
'Our thoughts and condolences are with Rosie's family and friends, and we are offering support to those affected at this extremely difficult time'.
Her family paid tribute in a death notification, writing: 'Darling daughter of Hugh and Pippa, incredible sister to Archie and Agatha, Granddaughter to Derek and Rae Long.'
It comes after Thomas Kingston, husband of Harry and William's cousin Lady Gabriella Kingston, died from a head injury, with a gun found nearby, in February 2024.
Katy Skerrett, senior coroner for Gloucestershire, had recorded a narrative verdict and said Mr Kingston had taken his own life.
Both Rosie's family and a spokesman for Prince William declined to comment last night.

Ross's home was raided and police discovered a drawing marked "Project Payback". A phone and tablet device were also examined which included the voice message about the 2001 Twin Towers atrocity and him discussing with others "murdering all the people who wronged you". Ross appeared in the dock this week at the High Court in Glasgow. He pled guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner which included sending the concerning messages and voice notes on Snapchat and Facebook causing an explosion, filming it and putting the footage on social media between June 25 and July 31 2024. He had a not guilty plea to a charge under the Terrorism Act accepted. Ross was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date. Malware has reportedly been uploaded to a popular game on Steam, which could give hackers full access to your personal information. The sinister scammer - also known as Larva-208 - allegedly launched his plot on July 22 when he uploaded the HijackLoader malware ( onto the game. According to Bleeping Computer, this dodgy software was uploaded to the popular game Chemia, originally developed by Aether Forge Studios. The software establishes 'persistence' - meaning it gives a hacker unlimited access - on your device. Then, it downloads the Vidar infostealer ( while receiving a command-and-control address from a Telegram channel. A second piece of malware allegedly added to Chemia harvests your data from web browsers - including your account details, auto-fill information, cookies and cryptocurrency data. With all of that data and access to your computer, the hacker is then able to rob users of their hard-earned cash. A report shared with BleepingComputer revealed that the scheme relies on players trusting online platforms, instead of using 'traditional deception techniques'. It is unknown how EncryptHub allegedly managed to upload the files onto the game and Chemia's developer has not commented on the issue. The game remains on Steam and it is unclear if the latest version is safe to download. EncryptHub was behind a cyberattack campaign last year which affected 600 companies worldwide. The news comes after the beloved supermarket M&S recovers from a major cyberattack this year. Marks and Spencer was forced to shut down their online website while it grappled with the crisis, while £700 million was wiped off its stock market value. Eventually, the retailer was able to return to normal after being unable to make deliveries for some time. After the attack, the company offered users of its Sparks loyalty scheme the chance to choose between two of M&S' best selling products. These included: Percy Pigs or a Swiss Truffle Assortment Box Bouquet of Flowers or bottle of Prosecco A punnet of Grapes or a packet of Outrageously Chocolatey Round Biscuits.
