Davina McCall says she hated herself, 'did things she said she'd never do' and let people down when she got clean as she reveals fury over losing out on a job to Scarlett Moffatt
has admitted she did things she thought she would never do and 'really hated herself' when she got clean after her drugs and booze battle. The TV presenter, 57, spoke candidly about how she disappointed herself and those close to her while trying to overcome years of struggling with addiction. Davina began taking cocaine in her young teens, as well as drinking and smoking. By the time she was in her early 20s she was taking heroin. Her friends and family - led by her grandmother - held an intervention and Davina overhauled her life and began attending Narcotics Anonymous meeting. Discussing that period of her life with Closer, Davina said: 'I hated myself when I got clean. I really hated myself. I did things which I said I would never do. I'd let myself and other people down. She felt like she was 'infected by a dark shadow' and said it took her a long time to love herself again, having got 'all of the mad stuff' out of her system by the time she landed her first TV job with MTV at 25. At the age of 31, Davina started fronting a show called Streetmate from 1998 for three years, a reality dating game show which has now become a cult favourite. Davina hosted a one-off Stand Up to cancer special in 2016 and was involved in discussions to bring the show back, which ultimately ended in disappointment. She said: 'It was so fun doing it again and Channel 4 were like "let's bring it back". However, Davina shared her bitter disappointed when the job was given to Scarlett Moffatt, 34. She said: 'Two days before they announced its revival, bosses told me they were going with Scarlett. I was like "no!" but Scarlett presented it, it didn't go well, so I was like "we have to let go of that now". When the planned reboot was going ahead in 2017, the new frontwoman said she had been asking original host Davina for tips ahead of the show's return. The popular I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here 2016 winner said: 'Hopefully I'll do Davina proud. 'I've actually had a chat with her about it and she wished me luck, which was really nice. 'I said I hope I don't let her down. It's hard this dating business! Love is complicated.' However it the end the revival plans were scrapped. In November, Davina revealed she was diagnosed with a colloid cyst, a rare type of benign brain tumour and underwent a six-hour operation. Speaking about the terrifying ordeal at the time, Davina admitted her tumour - whom she called Jeffrey - made her 'angry'. But last month the star insisted she's 'not scared of dying anymore' following her life-changing brain tumour. Speaking at Fearne Cotton 's Happy Place Festival at Gunnersby Park Davina explained how it has shifted her perspective on life. 'I am not afraid of dying anymore and it was the biggest journey of my life from August 2023 to November 2024', she admitted. 'I want to help people on their deathbed on my Begin Again podcast now so they can say "I have lived the life I wanted and not think things like "I wish I had not done that job. I wished I had not stayed in this relationship". 'Sometimes I feel like there are other powers at play. All the fear that comes around the word "tumour". Fearne and I understood each other at that time. 'I mean, it's a really amazing place to get to, not being scared of dying. I think having no regrets and feeling like you are living fully in the life you want to be in, it's quite rare.' Davina has long credited regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle with helping her stay strong – both mentally and physically.

Holly Willoughby flashes her lithe legs in denim hot pants with an airy linen shirt and chic sun hat as she enjoys Portugal getaway
Holly Willoughby nailed summer chic as she stepped out in Portugal on Monday. The TV star, 44, looked stylish in a pair of cut-off denim shorts with a breezy linen shirt and wide-brimmed sunhat with a complementary cross-body bag. Her off-duty style was flawless as she enjoyed her annual jaunt to the Algarve, where she visits annually with her husband and kids. Holly, who shares three children Harry, 16, Belle, 14 and Chester, 10, with Dan, was enjoying her sun-soaked trip as she walked down the street. Ensuring she kept her youthful complexion glowing, she added sunglasses into her face protection as well as her wide-brimmed hat. Holly's summer break comes after she faced a string of blows on her presenting gigs. Her Netflix show Celebrity Bear Hunt was axed after just one series following claims that it was too expensive to produce. It came months after her other mainstream programme Dancing On Ice was axed in March, while she also decided to step down from presenting duties on You Bet! Having been the darling of TV for several years, Holly is still in huge demand with a plethora of options open to her as she navigates this tricky stage in her career. According to The Sun, one option could be the reboot of the classic series Record Breakers, which her TV producer husband Dan Baldwin, 50, is currently working on. A source told the production that Holly would be the 'perfect fit' for the show, which at present is in its early stages and currently does not have a channel attached. They explained: 'Record Breakers is likely to be a prime-time hit and it would make perfect sense for Holly to take the reins. She has worked alongside Dan before and the pair know what it takes to make great telly.' Meanwhile, Holly has also been linked to the revival of Cilla Black's Blind Date, alongside the likes of Claudia Winkleman and Davina McCall. Originally, rumours suggested the ITV hit would make a comeback on BBC but now sources claim the love-match show will reboot on Disney+. In March, Holly was tipped to become the next Cilla, with the presenter lining up a string of big-money deals worth up to £10million. The revival was previously being considered by Holly's husband Dan Baldwin, and the star had previously stepped into Cilla's shoes when she hosted a reboot of Surprise Surprise. An insider told The Sun at the time: 'There might not sound like obvious parallels between Holly and Cilla, but they're both two of the biggest stars of modern telly. 'Emulating Cilla isn't just about taking on her shows, it's as much about carving out a niche as a solo presenter with serious clout in the world of telly. 'But together with her husband Dan, they form the ultimate power couple in TV. She has the public appeal that gets viewers tuning in, while he has a track record of making hugely successful TV shows.' The Daily Mail has contacted Holly's representatives for comment at the time. She has long been a familiar face on both ITV and ITV2, hosting shows including Surprise Surprise, Celebrity Juice, The Games, The Xtra Factor and I'm A Celebrity. Holly is arguably best known for having fronted This Morning alongside Phillip Schofield from 2009 until 2023, while she also helmed Dancing On Ice from 2006.

Gemma Owen shares a rare loved-up snap with boyfriend Red Morgan as they snuggle up for a selfie during a day out at the races
Gemma Owen looked more loved-up than ever as she shared a rare snap with her boyfriend Red Morgan on Instagram on Sunday. The Love Island star, 22, who dated Luca Bish on and off the ITV show, made her new romance public in April. And while it appears that she likes to keep her relationship out of the spotlight, she has been sharing rare snippets of her man online. Taking to social media, the reality star posted a sweet snap of them together in a photo dump at Goodwood races. The daughter of football legend father Michael Owen beamed in the selfie as she snuggled up to Red at the horse riding event. The happy couple both looked dressed up to the nines as they enjoyed their glam day out. Gemma unveiled the romance earlier this year as shared a photo of the pair joined by her father and her mother Louise Bonsall. A source told The Sun at the time that Gemma and Red had known each for a while after meeting through their shared passion of equestrian. Per the 2024 Sunday Times Rich List, Red's father Steve - who is the founder and chairman of housebuilder Redrow - has a net worth estimated at £915million. DailyMail contacted representatives for Gemma for comment at the time. Her new romance comes after it was revealed in February that Gemma has been setting up her own home since moving out of her family's £4million mansion. In a string of Instagram posts, Gemma revealed her bedroom and kitchen have been transformed, with a muted new décor. One video showed the before and after of her newly-renovated kitchen which is packed with grey appliances, and gold accents and fixtures. Her living room and bedroom continued with the all-grey theme, including metallic blinds, cabinets and matching satin pillows. However, Gemma faced backlash from some users online, after revealing that the renovation was part of a collaboration with a well-known design company, meaning it's likely she didn't pay a penny for the work. In exchange, Gemma promoted the company on her Instagram page, writing: 'Cottage kitchen reno… 'I'm so in love with my kitchen transformation by the incredible team at @prestigedesignyorkshire who have shared my excitement for the project throughout. I'm so happy with the glow up, it's everything that I wanted & more. @prestigedesignyorkshire.' Gemma, who rose to fame on Love Island also shared videos of her new bedroom, while gushing over the luxurious new blinds and curtains she received from Dutch Limes Oak flooring. The clip revealed the star's enormous bed, alongside a sleek, white built-in wardrobe. Prior to moving into her cottage, Gemma had been living with her parents at their £4 million mansion in the Welsh countryside. Ahead of her first stint on the show she admitted that her England legend father 'wasn't happy' about her signing up but he trusted her not to 'embarrass' him. The swimwear brand owner told DailyMail at the time that Michael resisted having a 'tantrum' after learning she will be on the dating show, and eventually gave his blessing, saying: 'I'm not going to tell you what to do.' She said: 'I still wouldn't say that my dad is buzzing about me doing Love Island. 'He's very supportive in whatever I decide to do. He didn't have a massive tantrum or anything like that. He was pretty chilled, he trusts me not to do anything to embarrass him. He took it quite well. 'He didn't say I couldn't do this or give me any dos or don'ts. He said I'm not going to tell you what to do, I trust you, you have never given us a reason not to trust you, go for it but I will always have my family's thoughts and opinions in the forefront of my mind because we are all super close and they are the most important people to me.'
