Newly opened Mexican restaurant replaces former New Albany Local Cantina

Yahoo4 days ago
NEW ALBANY, Ohio (WCMH) — A new Mexican restaurant has taken over a former New Albany Local Cantina that closed earlier this year.
El Rey Brasas – Mar – Tekila has been open for business for about a week, according to its social media. The Mexican restaurant said its name reflects its values, translating to 'embers – sea – tequila' in honor of the grill's fire, fresh sea and their handcrafted cocktails.
El Rey offers a wide variety of Mexican dishes priced between $10 and $20 per person, although steak and fish dishes may be priced higher. Its menu mirrors offerings at many Mexican restaurants that pull from Mexican regional cuisines, like burritos, enchiladas and aguachiles. The plating reflects El Rey's 'stylish setting,' with carefully ornate displays of each dish.
The restaurant also offers craft cocktails, such as a pink number served with a little pink cowboy hat and topped with cotton candy, and a peach colored cocktail with rainbow candy on top. According to a photo of the drink menu from an online review, El Rey offers many margaritas, priced between $10 and $15. There is not a drink menu available online, and El Rey has not yet responded to NBC4's request for comment.

El Rey sets its 'stylish' tone with vibrant décor, including bright pink flowers hanging from the ceilings and colorful murals along the walls. El Rey offers both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as seating at the bar.
Avid El Rey fans can also join the VIP club and receive free queso or a free sopapilla dessert. VIP access appears free, and just requires an email sign up for future messaging and offers.
The site at 5525 New Albany Road West was previously a Local Cantina, which closed on Jan. 31 so that the owners could dedicate time to the opening of Asian fusain restaurant Bendi Wok N Bar elsewhere in New Albany. El Rey is located in the same shopping strip as barre3, Rooster's and Gyro City Grill.
El Rey opens at 11 a.m. every day, closing at 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 9 p.m. on Sundays.

Christina Applegate and Katey Sagal recall 'cynical' vibe on 'Married... With Children' set: 'Somebody's gonna talk s--- on you'

The fictional mother-daughter duo debriefed on the 'negativity' on set. With a sitcom as wry as Married... With Children, it's no surprise that the set was just as snarky behind the scenes. Married costars Katey Sagal and Christina Applegate recently spoke about their time working together on Sagal and husband Kurt Sutter's podcast Pie. The Dead to Me actress said she often felt like she didn't belong on the Married set because she wasn't into "sarcasm and s--- talking and negativity." Sagal agreed that there was a "cynical" vibe on set. "We were a sarcastic, cynical bunch," Sagal said. "You weren't safe, really. You turned your back, somebody's gonna talk s--- on you." Applegate recalled a moment when this happened after a scene. She had gone to her dressing room and heard people talking badly about her through a monitor in her trailer. "I was like, 'Wow, I was just there 20 seconds ago,'" she shared. On her own MeSsy podcast, Applegate previously discussed how Sagal was a "safe space" for her in the 11 years Married was on the air. She noted that her TV mom was recently sober when the show began, which was a comfort to Applegate. "You had lived a lot of life and a lot of scarring and things had taken place," Applegate told Sagal. "And now you were on that side of strength. And I needed that. I needed that so badly in my life, a stable person."Married followed the dysfunctional Bundy family including shoe-selling patriarch Al (Ed O'Neill), his lazy wife Peggy (Sagal), teen daughter Kelly (Applegate), and bumbling younger son Bud (David Faustino). Despite the apparent negativity on set, the Married cast has maintained a fond, familial relationship throughout the years. Applegate also had O'Neill on the MeSsy podcast last year and said he practically raised her. 'Years and years of my life spent with this man and he's an incredible actor," she said. "He's an incredible human being.' In 2022, Applegate reunited with Sagal and Faustino when she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
