Stars Talk L.A Wildfires, Home Rebuilds and What to Do With Your Tesla at EMA Impact Summit
A large focus of the summit's first day was discussing the aftermath of the Los Angeles wildfires that devastated the Pacific Palisades and Altadena areas earlier this year. Jenna Dewan led a conversation about philanthropy and how the city banded together after the fires, while Property Brothers star Drew Scott moderated a panel about rebuilding homes in the destroyed areas.

'You're rooted in your home, it's your memories, it's everything in your life. It's where you wake up every morning, go to bed every night and it affects every aspect of your life, whether it's work or relationships,' Scott told the audience at the Pendry West Hollywood. 'And we've had that ripped away from us, a lot of families did here in January.'
Ben Stapleton, executive director for the U.S. Green Building Council – Los Angeles, noted how 'the world is watching us and seeing as Americans, as Angelenos, how do we respond to the tragedy? How do we do this in a way where we come together? Can we rebuild at scale in a way that can be more resilient and be more sustainable, and can we have a different narrative that the world can come see here for the Olympics, for other events, than what they're seeing coming out of the U.S. right now?'
Stapleton continued that immediately after the fire, he was getting flooded with emails and calls from people who lost their homes saying they wanted to rebuild in an environmental way; going with electric over gas was one such suggestion for how to do that.
Of choosing to rebuild with the planet in mind, he added, 'it's going to reduce our utility bills long term, it's going to reduce the air pollution in our homes, which is going to reduce our health care costs. The reason we rebuild green is because it's healthier. And ideally, people are getting these homes they don't even know it's green, it's just cheaper, faster, easier. And so we're launching a group purchasing platform to help drive down some of that cost for folks to get access to some of those sustainable materials. We're trying to do the things that we can to help meet people where they're at, including contractor training. People need to know how to rebuild the right way.'
Scott also called out contractors who are telling people they need to rebuild with steel, concrete and materials where 'it's basically going to be four times the cost to build your home back. These are people who didn't have the money — they didn't have the insurance or they were underinsured, they can't even afford the build back, let alone something's going to cost four times. You don't need all of that. What you need is the envelope to be more fire retardant. We don't need the old vents that all these old houses have, we don't need exposed eaves especially with your neighbors five feet away. It's going to spread really fast if you have those issues.'
Ed Begley Jr., Miranda Cosgrove, Malin Ackerman, Daniella Pineda and Peyton List also took part in conversations throughout the day, and Phil Rosenthal recorded a live version of his Naked Lunch podcast with Kevin Nealon. During the conversation, the pair touched on what to do with their Teslas given Elon Musk's current role in the Trump administration.
'I bought mine in 2012 when it first came out. Why? To protect the environment. Now, do I get rid of that car in solidarity with people who are against what he's doing to the country? Or do I keep that car because it's better for the environment than a gas car?' Rosenthal asked the audience of activists, as several suggested it was best to keep the car.
'I think I'm doing my part by keeping a car from 2012 in the first place, right? I'm not buying a new car, by the way, the tariffs are going to make it terrible for me to buy another car,' he continued, as Nealon deadpanned, 'I have a Tesla, but I am so opposed to Elon it's in the shop now. We're having a gas engine put in it.' Another audience member suggested to put a bumper sticker on the car that would disavow Musk while still keeping the Tesla.
'Now, does that keep the mob from dragging me out of my car and beating me up? It does? So that's all I need, everything's fine,' Rosenthal responded, joking, 'Is this the problem with you people, is that you think a bumper sticker is going to fix the world?'
Eli Roth, Sosie Bacon, Lance Bass, Nikki Reed and Jesse Metcalfe are among those taking part in the second day of the summit, sponsored by Toyota.

Jeff Bezos & Lauren Sanchez Reportedly ‘Livid' Over Charlize Theron's Criticism of Their Wedding as They Plan to Get Revenge on the Actress
The Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez wedding was a pretty extravagant affair. No expense was spared as the two tied the knot in Venice, with multiple celebrities, including the Kardashians, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Oprah, in attendance. But not all celebrities were invited, and not all wanted to be there. Charlize Theron, who has been in the headlines for other reasons due to the release of her Netflix movie, The Old Guard 2, had pretty strong words against those who did attend. And Bezos was reportedly not pleased. According to a report from celebrity reporter Rob Shuter, Bezos was 'livid' with her comments, and Sanchez had to be 'talked down' from saying something against the actress on Instagram. Reportedly, the two are taking revenge on the actress, too. Theron has now been banned from anything Bezos-adjacent, including yacht weekends, Blue Origin launches, and any future charity galas sponsored by the couple. More from StyleCaster Lauren Sanchez's $300K Wedding Dress Allegedly Stolen After Jeff Bezos Ceremony-Here's How the Culprit Pulled Off the Heist Jeff Bezos & Lauren Sánchez's Wedding Accused of Copying William & Kate's Ceremony After Reports Meghan Was 'Seething' to Not Be Invited Related: How do Jeff Bezos's kids feel about Lauren Sanchez? What exactly did she say? On June 28, while hosting the fifth annual Block Party for the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project on Saturday, Theron told attendees, 'I think we might be the only people who did not get an invite to the Bezos wedding,' poking fun at the star-studded event. 'But that's OK because they suck and we're cool,' Theron added, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actress then pointed out the current political climate, saying, 'Here in Los Angeles, in the US and across the globe, we're moving backwards fast.' She added, 'Immigration policy has destroyed the lives of families, not criminals; women's rights are becoming less and less every day; queer and trans lives are increasingly being erased; and gender-based violence is on the rise,' making it clear that she disagreed with the moment and the type of celebration. Theron might be one of the biggest names to criticize the lavish affair, and one of the ones who had the strongest public words, but she's not the only one who has said something. Katie Couric made a dig at Lauren Sanchez's wedding dress in a since-deleted Instagram comment that reportedly read, 'Welcome to the eighties — when big hair and conspicuous consumption ruled. Apparently tacky is back.' Ouch. Meanwhile, Rosie O'Donnell criticized Bezos in particular and the wedding in general in a June 29 Substack post. 'The BEZOS wedding, it turned my stomach. Seeing all these billionaires gathering in the gross excess of it all,' O'Donnell wrote. 'Is Oprah friends with Jeff Bezos? Really — how is that possible? He treats his employees with disdain. By any metric he is not a nice man.' Others chose a more subtle way of showing their disapproval, but one that was clear just the same. Mia Farrow and Olivia Munn were among the celebrities who took the time to praise Bezos' ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, for her philanthropy in the years since her divorce. Not the same as outright criticism, but also a very obvious dig at both Bezos and especially, his new bride. And though Theron was reportedly the one who drew the ire of Bezos and Sanchez, it's likely none of these celebrities will be invited to the next party. To their credit, they don't seem to care. Kate Middleton Faces Dramatic Cancer Update After Going to ‘Hell & Back' With ‘Seriously Ill' Health
Kate Middleton is 'fortunate' to survive her 'seriously ill' cancer diagnosis, according to a royal source. An insider told the Daily Mail in June 2025 that while Kate, who went 'to hell and back' with her cancer diagnosis, is still a 'work in progress' amid her recovery, the experience has given her a lot of 'mental clarity' around her priorities as member of the British royal family. More from StyleCaster Kate Gives Subtle Update on Her Royal Future After Reports She's 'Fortunate' to Survive Her 'Seriously Ill' Cancer Diagnosis William & Kate Finally Confirm New Family Member After Reports of Their '4th Child' 'On some levels I actually think this is a good reminder that she was really seriously ill last year and underwent a significant period of chemo. As anyone who has been through that experience will tell you, you can feel very unwell for a long time afterwards. It can take years [to recover],' the insider said. According to the Daily Mail, Kate's cancer treatment included abdominal surgery followed by preventative chemotherapy involving a 'port' that was surgically fitted to administer the chemo. 'I can say that, from what I understand, she is fortunate to even be speaking of recovery,' royal correspondent Rebecca English told the Daily update to Kate's cancer recovery came after she mysteriously skipped the 2025 Royal Ascot, where she was set to attend with her husband Prince William, at the last minute. According to the Daily Beast, Kate was originally set to attend Wimbledon in June and July 2025, as well as a meet and greet for a French state visit at Windsor Castle on July 8 followed by a retreat to Norfolk in the summer, however, those plans may change as her cancer recovery becomes more serious. 'The important thing here is Kate's recovery. It was too much, unfortunately, for her to have three appearances in under a week, and the lesson has been learned. Kate will take it much easier for the rest of the year. I'd be surprised if you see her more than three times in the next three months,' a source told the Daily Beast. Another source added, 'Kate is recalibrating her entire life, her entire work-life balance. [Ascot] was a wakeup call, not a one-off. She has never found the public appearances, and the forensic attention and criticism that goes with them, at all easy to deal with, and it was just too much this week.' Along with her cancer diagnosis, the source explained that Kate's past year has also been 'horrific' due to the public fallout between William and his brother, Prince Harry, as well as her father-in-law King Charles' own cancer diagnosis. 'The last few years have been horrific; the disgusting things that Harry said about her and William and her family, the relentless speculation about her and William, the queen's death, the king's diagnosis which had them both thinking they were going to have to take over and then her own cancer diagnosis and treatment. It's all taken its toll, and if she needs more time to recover, William will fight tooth and nail to see she is given it,' the insider said. Kate first announced she was diagnosed with cancer in a video statement in March 2024, in which she revealed that she was in the 'early stages' of preventative chemotherapy. The announcement came after she underwent an abdominal surgery in January 2024. 'At the time, it was thought that my condition was noncancerous,' she said in the video. 'The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.' She continued, 'As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.' Kate announced that she was done with chemotherapy in September 2024. 'Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes,' she said in a social media post at the time. 'I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.' She confirmed that she was in full remission from cancer in January 2025. 'I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year,' Kate wrote on social media. 'My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn't have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.' ‘The King and I' Star and Miss Universe Legend Maureen Hingert Dies at 88
The King and I actress Maureen Hingert, a star of Hollywood's Golden Age, has died at the age of 88 following health complications. The Sri Lankan actress and Miss Universe runner-up died Sunday of liver failure at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, California, her daughter Marisa Zamparelli told The Hollywood Reporter. 'It was a beautiful and peaceful passing,' Marisa said. Hingert was widely known for her work in Walter Lang's 1956 film, The King and I, adapted from the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical of the same name. The musical, which earned nine nominations at the Academy Awards and won five, notably starred Deborah Kerr, Yul Brynner, and Rita Moreno. Alongside The King and I, Hingert's resume also includes roles in Westerns like 1958's Gun Fever and 1959's Gunmen From Laredo. She also has appeared in dramas like 1956's Pillars of the Sky opposite Jeff Chandler and Dorothy Malone, and 1954's Elephant Walk starring Elizabeth Taylor. Apart from acting, Hingert also made a legacy as a pageant contestant when she finished second runner-up at the 1955 Miss Universe contest—the first in the competition's history to ever be televised. Hingert, who was born in Colombo, Ceylon in January 1937, entered the competition as Miss Ceylon—a historical name for Sri Lanka—and was the first from the country to ever reach the contest's finals. She was only 18 at the time. In 1958, Hingert married Mario Armond Zamparelli, a designer largely known for his work with business tycoon and aerospace engineer Howard Hughes. The couple welcomed three children together before their divorce in 1970. Alongside their daughter Maria, Hingert and Mario also welcomed daughters Gina Zamparelli and Andrea Zamparelli who respectively died in 2018 and 2009.
