Gogglebox star front-runner to take over from John Torode on MasterChef after BBC sacking
A beloved Gogglebox personality has emerged as the leading contender to replace John Torode on MasterChef following his dismissal from the programme.
In a shocking turn of events, the BBC confirmed yesterday that they would not be renewing the 59-year-old's contract after an historic allegation of racism – which the Australian chef vehemently denies and claims to have no recollection of – was substantiated by an independent investigation into John's co-host, Gregg Wallace.
This revelation followed the termination of Gregg, 60, from MasterChef in light of the inquiry into his conduct. The report, carried out by legal firm Lewis Silkin, found that 45 out of 83 accusations levelled against the father-of-three were corroborated, primarily involving inappropriate sexual language and humour.
In the aftermath of Gregg and John's departure, Andi Oliver, star of Gogglebox and Great British Menu, has surfaced as the likely successor to host MasterChef.
According to Whataretheodds.co.uk, Andi is currently the favourite with odds at 5/2 (28.6 per cent). Renowned for her vibrant persona and authority on Great British Menu, Andi's culinary prowess has positioned her as a top pick among fans and bookies alike.
Her appointment would also mark a historic moment as the first Black woman to present the show, reports the Mirror.
The betting markets have responded swiftly to John and Gregg's exit from MasterChef, with odds analyst, Dave James, informing the Mirror that a well-known celebrity chef is also vying for the position.
He commented: "Andi Oliver remains the market leader, but Tom Kerridge is attracting a lot of support. His profile is huge, and he's one of the most trusted names in British food.
"This could come down to what direction the BBC wants – prestige, relatability, or a bit of both."
Tom, who has odds of 3/1 (25 per cent), runs several eateries, presents numerous BBC programmes, and is known for blending haute cuisine with broad appeal - not to mention being the creator of the £37 fish and chips at Harrod's.
Next in line is Poppy O'Toole, an emerging sensation on TikTok and within contemporary food media, with odds of 4/1 (20 per cent), followed by Angela Hartnett at 5/1 (16.7 per cent).
Great British Bake Off favourite Nadiya Hussain is at 6/1 (14.3 per cent).
Further back in the betting are television regulars such as James Martin and Grace Dent, who took over presenting duties on Celebrity MasterChef alongside John when Gregg temporarily stepped aside amid an investigation into his conduct on the programme.
In the meantime, Nigella Lawson, Marcus Wareing, and even John's spouse, Lisa Faulkner, remain contenders for the future face of MasterChef as the show's fate hangs in the balance.
Another prominent figure tipped to take over the iconic BBC series is Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebbutt. There's speculation that the experienced presenter has already secured the role for MasterChef: The Professionals.
Matt played it cool regarding the prospect of presenting MasterChef after Gregg's departure earlier this year.
Speaking to Muddy Stilettos about potentially co-hosting with John while he was still employed on the show, he remarked: "Well, there's always rumours, but it would be a great gig for sure!"

Jessie J 'set for huge TV comeback' following successful mastectomy amid breast cancer diagnosis
Jessie J is reportedly planning to mark her TV comeback with a special appearance on Strictly Come Dancing this September following her mastectomy. The singer, 37, had surgery two weeks ago and confirmed to her fans that 'no cancer spread', after revealing she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in June. According to The Sun, BBC bosses believe she will kick off the new series perfectly as they welcome her return. A source said: 'Jessie is putting her health and recovery first but is already excited for getting back on stage. 'She's been booked for a TV comeback on Strictly in September and bosses can't wait to have her on the show. 'Right now she's feeling very grateful for life and all the opportunities coming her way.' MailOnline has contacted Strictly and Jessie J's representatives for comment. As well as the reported Strictly appearance, Jessie is also booked to perform at Radio 2 In The Park in September in Chelmsford. Earlier this month, Jessie shared an adorable clip of her two-year-old son Sky the night before the operation. In the sweet clip, Jessie is heard encouraging her boy to say 'Mummy's going to be okay' as she prepared for the surgery to remove her breast. In the caption, she penned: 'AND.. I AM OK. Results = I have NO cancer spread. Happy tears are real', followed by several crying emojis. The Price Tag hitmaker continued: 'Thank YOU for the prayers, the love, the well wishes, the joy and all the positive energy. 'This video is from the night before my surgery. We called it baby boy. You are my biggest ray of light and with you in my life, the darkness will never win. 'Lots of healing to go and one more surgery to make these cousins look more like sisters, but for now it's gratitude time and I am changing my name to The LopJess monster.' It comes after Jessie revealed she wished she said goodbye to her breast before undergoing a mastectomy. In an update last month, she said that she is experiencing some 'delayed sadness' and felt 'disappointed' that she didn't say goodbye. Taking to her Instagram stories, she shared a candid post with fans, bravely opening up about her feelings. The performer admitted that she went into 'survival mode' when she first found out about her diagnosis and is now letting herself be angry and sad. In her post, Jessie wrote: '2 weeks post surgery. Had my drain out 2 nights ago. She said breathe in and take a hard breathe out. She whipped that thang out so quick. Woii oii. Weirdest feeling. But so nice to have it out after 12 days. 'Now it's just me and my wonky boobs trying to figure out how to dress until I match them up. The left one is looking at me like "you ok babe?"' She continued: 'Also my experience was when I was diagnosed I went into survival mode. 'There was so much going on with appointments and in my mind esp with a toddler I had just moved and was about to start this campaign after 8 years away. Mad. In the caption, she penned: 'AND.. I AM OK. Results = I have NO cancer spread. Happy tears are real', followed by several crying emojis 'I didn't really have a lot of time to process what was happening or what was going to happen. So I'm currently experiencing some delayed sadness and frustration by having time to process what IS happening. Jessie added: 'A little disappointed in myself I didn't say goodbye to my old boob enough. Sounds silly but that's where I'm at. Again that's my journey. I'm sure others feel different. 'But for me I didn't think beyond the surgery. I was just being strong. Well now I'm here and letting myself be angry and sad and all the things. Just for a few days. 'Then I will sew some padding in a bra to even them out order some t-shirts and crack tf on'.

Oasis fan spent £700 'on thin air' after waiting years for Noel and Liam Gallagher reunion
Nevile Root, 20, was due to see the two brothers perform at their third night at Heaton Park on Wednesday (July 16) along with his girlfriend An Oasis fan has expressed his disappointment after spending £700 on tickets for their gig that turned out to be 'essentially spent on thin air'. Nevile Root, 20, had planned to watch the Gallagher brothers perform at their third night at Heaton Park with his girlfriend. A devoted follower of the band, Nevile has seen Noel and Liam perform solo numerous times over the years and stated that 'money was no object' when it came to the rare opportunity to see the band reunite after many years. However, his excitement was short-lived when he discovered that the two tickets he had purchased via the re-sale website Twickets had actually been sold to another customer through Ticketmaster's resale option seven months prior, reports the Manchester Evening News. The couple had taken the day off work and were looking forward to travelling from Preston to Manchester for the much-anticipated concert. They received the disappointing news on the morning of the show, leaving them with no choice but to miss the gig and request a refund. Including booking fees, they paid £724. The original ticket seller, based in Australia, had secured two tickets before the band announced additional world tour dates, which include performances in Sydney and Melbourne later this year. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, he said: "Having looked forward to a potential reunion for many years, I was desperate to get hold of two tickets. I've seen Liam and Noel's solo projects several times so was dismayed that I'd missed out on both the presale opportunity and also tickets in the general sale. "I persevered and followed the guidance to use the only 'official' resale site, Twickets. I was made up when I managed to secure two tickets in early January to see them in Heaton Park." Neville added: "For me, this was the one gig where money was no object. But over £700 is a whole month's rent. It's more money than most 20-year-olds can spare on gig tickets, but I didn't want to miss the opportunity. "I emailed back and forth with the seller, a man from Australia, who had bought the Manchester tickets prior to the announcement of the Australian leg of the tour. No alarm bells rang, and he forwarded me all the confirmation emails from the original ticket purchase." Neville talked with the initial ticket seller, who informed him that the Ticketmaster app wouldn't allow the tickets to be transferred until the event was closer, typically between 48 and 24 hours before the show. Neville was stunned on the morning of Wednesday's gig to discover from the seller that his long-awaited tickets, bought via Twickets, were marked 'sold' on Ticketmaster's app, revealing a breach of Twickets' reselling rules. Twickets said: "I am sorry to hear what has happened. If the tickets appear as 'sold' in [the seller's] Ticketmaster account, than that would indicate that they have also listed and sold them on Ticketmaster resale, in contravention of the terms and conditions of our site unfortunately. "We therefore have no alternative but to withdraw the sale and issue you with a full refund, which should show on your card account in the next 2-3 working days." Expressing his disappointment, Neville said: "The most frustrating thing now is just not being able to go. On one hand, I haven't lost out financially but its the fact that there isn't much safeguarding in place and that seller's can do this. "They had already been sold in January but I didn't find out until the day of the show. We are incredibly disappointed after making travel arrangements, booking annual leave and purchasing t-shirts in preparation for today only to be told the morning of the event that we wouldn't be able to go." Neville felt misled by processes that seemed secure: "I feel as though we have been led down the garden path with having instruction to be patient and purchase resale tickets only to then to find these weren't legitimate to begin with. "I've essentially spent over £700 on thin air, and left with no chance of sorting it now because it's all so last minute. Had I have known months ago, I may have had a chance. This wasn't just like buying a ticket for a band who comes round every year, this was a big deal."

King Charles signs off on historic first for key royal to mark 'remarkable service'
The Princess Royal has been given a huge honour to celebrate her "remarkable lifetime of service" to the Firm as she approaches her 75th birthday next month Princess Anne has been honoured ahead of her 75th birthday with a commemorative coin released by the Royal Mint to celebrate her "remarkable lifetime of service" to the Firm. The first ever official UK coin to honour the Princess Royal has been dubbed the "Anne-iversary £5 coin", and has been personally approved by the Princess. The coin features a portrait of King Charles ' sister wearing the Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara with her hair swept up in her signature style. The design is framed with the inscription 'The Princess Royal – Celebrating 75 Years – Duty and Devotion' in tribute to Anne's unwavering dedication to her royal duties over the decades. Often known as the hardest working member of the royal family, Anne will celebrate her 75th birthday on August 15, and has requested that her milestone birthday only be publicly marked by a charity forum she hosted at Buckingham Palace in June. Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative coin at the Royal Mint, said: 'For the first time in British numismatic history, we are honoured to celebrate the Princess Royal on an official UK coin. 'Her Royal Highness's unwavering commitment to public service, charitable work, and support of His Majesty's armed forces over seven and a half decades makes her truly deserving of this tribute.' To the right of the princess's portrait is a depiction of her official coat of arms, and on the obverse is the King, who gave the creation its final sign-off in honour of his sister. The portrait of Anne's head is based on a photograph of the princess taken by John Swannell, a Royal Photographic Society fellow, and shows her staring directly at the camera. The designer of the commemorative coin Thomas T Docherty said the portrait reflected the princess's 'strength of character' and 'understated elegance', as he said: 'I wanted to capture Her Royal Highness's remarkable legacy and dedication to public service. The portrait reflects her strength of character and unwavering commitment to duty.' He added: 'It was really by observing Princess Anne and looking at the role she plays within not only her family but the nation and the Commonwealth that formed inspiration for the design of the coin. She has, I would say, a kind of understated elegance and strength.' The art deco-style diamond and aquamarine Cartier tiara Anne is wearing was a wedding anniversary present from King George VI to his wife Queen Elizabeth, later the Queen Mother, who went on to give it as a wedding gift to her granddaughter Anne in 1973. The princess is also wearing an aquamarine pendant and matching earrings, both believed to have been made using stones from the tiara when Anne had it remodelled in the 1990s. The commemorative coin is available to purchase from the Royal Mint's website on July 18, costing £17.50 for the brilliant uncirculated edition. Other versions of the £5 coin are also available, with a silver proof priced at £110, a silver proof piedfort costing £208, and gold proof for £4,110. In recent years, The Royal Mint has honoured several notable royal birthdays with commemorative UK coins, including Queen Elizabeth II's 95th birthday, King Charles III's 70th and 75th birthdays as well as Prince William's 40th birthday.
