Lenskart's files Rs 7,500-8,000 cr IPO papers with Sebi
initial public offering
(IPO) expected to raise between Rs 7,500 crore and Rs 8,000 crore, people aware of the matter said.
The final size will depend on valuations at the time of listing.
The company filed its draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Tuesday. The IPO consists of a fresh issue of shares worth Rs 2,150 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of up to 13.23 crore shares by existing investors and promoters. A pre-IPO placement of up to Rs 430 crore has also been proposed, which could reduce the fresh issue size.
Proceeds from the fresh issue will be used for the expansion of company-owned (CoCo) stores in India (Rs 272.62 crore), lease-related payments (Rs 591.44 crore), technology and cloud infrastructure (Rs 213.38 crore), and brand marketing (Rs 320.06 crore). The remainder will be allocated for inorganic acquisitions and general corporate purposes.
As of March 31, 2025, Lenskart operated 2,723 stores globally, including 2,067 in India and 656 overseas.

The company sold 27.2 million eyewear units in FY25, up from 21.2 million in FY24 and 15.9 million in FY23. Annual transacting customer accounts rose from 7.7 million in FY23 to 12.4 million in FY25, while its paid membership program, Lenskart Gold, reached 6.77 million members in India.
Financially, the company swung from losses to profitability in FY24. In FY25, Lenskart reported revenue of Rs 6,653 crore, up from Rs 5,428 crore a year ago.
Net profit rose more than fivefold during the same period, from Rs 59 crore to Rs 297 crore, driven by operating leverage and higher repeat purchases. Lenskart's apps have seen more than 100 million cumulative downloads, while its websites drew 105 million visitors in FY25.
New customers, on average, purchased 3.62 pairs of glasses within two years, the filing revealed.
The case of the missing degree
Buried in Lenskart's DRHP is an oddly specific risk: one of its promoters, Sumeet Kapahi, who also heads global sourcing at the company, can't find his B.Com (Hons) degree or marksheets from the University of Delhi. He has emailed, written letters, and even applied through the university's online portal, but is still waiting for a response. Until then, Lenskart and its bankers have relied on the certificates he submitted for the IPO filing.
The company admits there's no guarantee the university will ever send the documents, making this one of the more unusual disclosures in a multi‑thousand‑crore IPO draft.

Fed Governor Adriana Kugler steps down, giving Trump slot to fill
The Federal Reserve announced Friday that governor Adriana Kugler will step down next week, opening up a spot on the central bank's powerful board that President Donald Trump will be able to fill. Kugler, who did not participate in the Fed's policy meeting earlier this week, would have completed her term in January. Instead, she will retire Aug. 8. She did not provide a reason for stepping down in her resignation letter. Powell, who has been repeatedly attacked by Trump for not reducing the Fed's key short-term interest rate, completes his term as chair in May 2026. Trump said Friday afternoon he was "very happy" to have an opportunity to name someone to the Fed's board. Several names have been floated as potential replacements for Powell, including Kevin Hassett, currently a top economic adviser to Trump, and Kevin Warsh, a former Fed governor from 2006 to 2011. Live Events Asked about potential candidates, Trump said he has "about three very good - I've got a lot of good candidates." Trump has continued his attacks on the Fed since Powell said Wednesday that the central bank would keep its short-term interest rate unchanged. Powell also said the Fed could take months to evaluate the impact of tariffs on the economy before deciding to cut rates, as Trump has demanded. Powell is "a stubborn MORON, must substantially lower interest rates , NOW," Trump posted early Friday morning, before the monthly jobs report was released. That report showed hiring slowed in July and was much lower in May and June than had been initially reported. Kugler was appointed to the Fed's seven-member board of governors by former President Joe Biden in September 2023. She was the first Hispanic Fed governor, and prior to joining the Fed, was a professor at Georgetown University and was the U.S. representative to the World Bank. She will return to the Georgetown faculty in the fall. "I am proud to have tackled this role with integrity, a strong commitment to serving the public, and with a data-driven approach strongly based on my expertise in labor markets and inflation," she said in her resignation letter. In her last speech as a Fed governor two weeks ago, Kugler expressed support for Powell's view that the central bank should keep rates unchanged while officials monitor the economy to see how Trump's tariffs affect inflation and the economy. Trump, meanwhile, has said he will appoint Fed officials who favor cutting rates. One complication is that Powell's term as chair ends in May 2026. But his position on the Fed's governing board lasts through January 2028. As a result, he could stay on the board even after stepping down as chair, and simply remain as one of seven governors. There is some precedent for such a step: Marriner Eccles, who served as Fed chair in the 1930s, remained on the board after completing his term as chair. If Powell took such a step, that would mean whomever the Trump administration chose to replace Kugler could then be elevated to chair after Powell finishes as chair in May 2026. In other words, to get their choice of Fed Chair in 2026, the Trump White House may choose to appoint that person to replace Kugler as governor, and then elevate them to Fed chair in May 2026. Powell has declined to answer at the last two press conferences whether he will leave the board when he is done as chair.

Proposed Canada-US trade deal could still be weeks away, says Ottawa
A proposed U.S.-Canada trade deal could still be weeks away, Ottawa's chief negotiator said on Friday, a day after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed higher tariffs on imports from Canada. Trump - who had set an August 1 deadline for an agreement - signed an executive order increasing tariffs on Canadian goods to 35% from 25% on all products not covered by the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement. The negotiations, though, have so far produced little. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 25 Best Cities for Living Undo Although over 90% of Canadian exports enter the United States without duties, the tariffs apply to crucial sectors such as steel, aluminum and automobiles. Federal cabinet minister Dominic LeBlanc, in charge of U.S. trade relations, said Canada had always made clear it would only accept a good deal. Live Events "At the end of business yesterday that agreement was not yet in sight ... there remain sectors the Americans are targeting which are essential for the Canadian economy," he told public broadcaster Radio-Canada. "Over the coming weeks we will ... continue talks with the Americans in an attempt to find a deal that would put us in a better position." Separately, LeBlanc told reporters in Washington that he would speak to U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick next week and hoped to meet him in August. "The doors aren't closed, the doors are open, the conversations are ongoing," he said. The White House cited what it said was Canada's failure to stop fentanyl smuggling and address U.S. concerns about trade barriers. Washington is also unhappy about Canada's refusal to drop its own countermeasures, which were first imposed by former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. He resigned in March to be replaced by Carney, who won an April election promising to stand up to Trump. In June, Carney had threatened to ramp up counter tariffs in July unless there was progress on the deal. A statement he issued on Friday did not mention retaliation. Brian Clow, who was in charge of U.S. relations inside Trudeau's office for several years, noted Trump had announced deals with nations that declined to impose counter tariffs. "Unfortunately, Canada stands on its own right now, along with China, because many other countries ... refused to stand up to this President," he said by phone. "So I'm not sure that further retaliation is the way to go." Carney's talk about standing up to Trump cannot hide the divisions between those advocating for a hard line and those who worry about the potential economic damage. Goldy Hyder, president of the Business Council of Canada lobby group, said Canada was struggling at the talks and urged a new approach. "As someone said to me, Canada is playing chess, but there's nobody playing chess with it at the other end," he said. "We've got to make sure that we are thinking through: 'What have we been doing and what do we need to do?'," he told CBC News. "We've got to move with greater urgency, because our own economy is very fragile."

Millions face $300 monthly hike as SAVE Student Loan interest resumes in August
Student loan borrowers under the SAVE repayment plan will see significant changes starting August 2025. The U.S. Department of Education has resumed interest charges, which may increase monthly costs by about $300. Millions of Americans are now reviewing their repayment options to manage the financial impact. Interest Pause Ends in August In 2023, the SAVE plan was introduced to help student loan borrowers manage payments. It included a pause on interest accumulation. However, two court rulings in 2024 halted the plan, and borrowers were shifted into a zero-interest forbearance. According to the Student Borrower Protection Center, this equates to about $3,500 per year in interest for those on the SAVE plan. Bethany Hubert from Earnest explained that remaining in forbearance is still an option, but interest will continue to grow. Borrowers who delay payments might see their balances increase quickly. See what happened Forbearance Continues, But Interest Builds The SAVE plan forbearance allows borrowers to delay payments, but interest will now accumulate. Experts warn that avoiding payments may lead to higher overall loan costs in the future. Hubert advised that borrowers consider paying at least the monthly interest to avoid balance growth. Switching Repayment Plans Is Possible Betsy Mayotte from The Institute of Student Loan Advisors suggested some borrowers may benefit from switching to a different repayment plan. For example, those aiming for loan forgiveness should know that time in SAVE forbearance does not count toward forgiveness requirements. Borrowers can use the Federal Student Aid website's loan simulator to check how different plans would affect their payments. Also Read: Is Venmo and Paypal down today? It was included in the One Big Beautiful Bill signed into law by President Donald Trump on July 4, 2025. RAP is designed to help low-income borrowers. Those earning under $10,000 annually will pay $10 per month. For those with higher income, payments range from 1–10% of income after subtracting $50 per child. Hubert provided an example: a borrower with a $45,000 AGI and no children would pay $150 monthly under RAP. Experts Urge Proactive Payment Financial experts, including Hubert, recommend that borrowers begin paying interest immediately, even if they stay in forbearance. This helps prevent long-term debt growth. The SAVE interest restart comes amid other challenges. Many Americans were unable to access their loan details this summer, causing confusion. In another example, one couple paid off $190,000 in student loan debt in 27 months by using a financial tool. FAQs How much more will SAVE borrowers pay each month after August 2025? Most SAVE borrowers could pay around $300 more each month due to the resumed interest, which amounts to about $3,500 annually. What is the Repayment Assistance Plan starting in 2026? RAP helps low-income borrowers. Payments start at $10 for low earners and scale based on income, adjusted by the number of children.
