Chef to launch new Japanese restaurant in Scottish city
It is being launched by the team behind Yamato, 'one of Edinburgh's leading Japanese restaurants'.
The 40-cover restaurant opening in the west end of [[Edinburgh]] 'will be one of Scotland's first sake-dedicated bars', the firm said, adding: 'The drinks menu will be built around the famous Japanese beverage, with food inspired by izakaya-style dining, Japan's answer to a gastropub.
'Nishiki will offer an all day dining menu and serve breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner with a focus on sharing plates and authentic Japanese flavours.'
The bar will feature a carefully curated list of sakes, Shochu-based cocktails, and Japanese whiskies. In addition, Nishiki will serve its own signature IPA.
The company said the restaurant space is 'thoughtfully designed in a Japandi style, blending minimalist Japanese tradition with modern Scandinavian simplicity'.
It said: 'Natural materials like wood are paired with modern elements, such as steel lighting, alongside traditional features like Japanese washi paper. Whether enjoying a quiet moment at the counter or sharing a meal at the long communicable table with friends and family, Nishiki offers a calm, welcoming environment where Japanese-inspired design meets modern comfort, from morning to night.'
Max Wang, chef owner at Yamato, said: 'With Nishiki, we wanted to create something new for the city. We've visited lots of Izakayas during our trips to Japan and really wanted to bring the concept to Edinburgh. We have designed the space to be welcoming for everyone. A bright, communal environment where people can come together to enjoy fantastic food and drinks.'

How to stay and play at Donald Trump's brand new golf course in Scotland?
The 36-hole Trump International Golf Links resort in Aberdeenshire will open to the public next month. Donald Trump officially opened his new golf course in Aberdeenshire yesterday, Tuesday, July 2. The controversial US President paid tribute to the late Scottish actor Sean Connery and recalled the long-running planning disputes that once delayed the development. Speaking to guests on the first tee at Trump International Golf Links, the former US President praised Scotland's First Minister John Swinney, calling him a 'terrific guy' following a dinner the night before. Reflecting on the history of the site, Trump said: 'We started with a beautiful piece of land, but we made it much more beautiful. The area has really welcomed us. "But you'll remember at the beginning it wasn't quite a welcome... but it wasn't bad. But with time they've liked us more and more.' Trump also credited Connery with helping push the controversial project forward. He said: 'The land, they said, couldn't get zoned, it was an impossibility. "And Sean Connery said 'let the bloody bloke build his golf course'. Once he said that, everything came into line.' Now open for visitors, the luxury golf destination outside Aberdeen is accepting bookings for both accommodation and tee times. Where to stay Guests can stay at Trump MacLeod House & Lodge Hotel, located on the former Menie Estate near Balmedie. The five-star property is described as a traditional Scottish baronial mansion, set across 1,400 acres of coastal land. It features 19 luxury guest rooms, Italian marble staircases, traditional fireplaces, intimate dining and bar areas, a whisky bar, outdoor hot tub, spa facilities and hidden staircases. Personal butler service is available. The hotel is open for exclusive hire, weddings, corporate events or individual bookings. Prices for a house or lodge room in the week beginning Sunday, August 18, start from £628, depending on length of stay and availability. How to book tee times Golfers can book tee times on the property's two courses starting August 13. Prices are set at £495 per person per round. A 'Greatest 36' option, combining both courses, is available until October 31. Tee times are being allocated on a first-come, first-served basis during the opening months, and multiple levels of club membership are offered, though prices have not been disclosed. Golf packages and pricing For those looking to combine luxury stays with golf, a number of packages are now on offer. A two-night package, which includes two rounds of golf (one on each course), a welcome dinner, breakfast, and a dram of whisky, is priced at £2,500 per person or £4,000 for two people sharing. This offer is valid between August 25 and October 31, 2025. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. There is also a golf-and-stay-only option, which includes a one-night stay and a round of golf for £985 (single occupancy) or £697.50 per person (double occupancy). Liverpool owners FSG 'in talks over £100m deal' as new target finally identified
Liverpool owners FSG have scoured Europe to purchase a new club as they look to begin a multi-club model and have landed on Spanish club Getafe who are valued at £100m Liverpool owner's FSG are in talks over the £100m takeover of La Liga side Getafe as they look to begin a multi-club model - similar to the set-up the Manchester City owners currently enjoy. The Americans have been in charge at Anfield for well over a decade and, despite some contentious decisions, have made the club a Premier League-winning force again and presided over some stunning redevelopment of their infrastructure. The Athletic claim that talks are underway between FSG and Getafe's president Angel Torres over the takeover of the club. Torres though has denied that publicly and previously stated that he valued the Madrid-based club closer to £160m, but he has now eased on that figure. FSG have undergone feasibility studies of several clubs which included Levante, Elche, Espanyol, Valladolid, Malaga and Bordeaux. But they eventually settled on Getafe and saw a number of green flags following their review. They enjoy a status as an established top flight club whilst their location in Madrid was also a factor in them jumping to the top of the queue. Getafe are also in the midst of a stadium redevelopment, which will modernise and take their Estadio Coliseum to a capacity of 19,000. FSG's desire to land another club was thought to be crucial in Michael Edwards choosing to return to Liverpool in a senior role and he is central in identifying what team to go after. He previously said, after re-joining the Reds as FSG's chief executive of football, that "one of the biggest factors in my decision is the commitment to acquire and oversee an additional club, growing this area of their organisation." Edwards is spearheading the search alongside former Boston Red Sox chief Theo Epstein. Reports earlier this year suggested FSG were pursuing a deal to buy Malaga, but that interest cooled as it emerged that they would need to negotiate a number of legal hurdles. Getafe have been a La Liga club for the past eight seasons and finished 13th last term. The upcoming season will mark Getafe's the 21st season out of the last 22 that the club have been in the Spanish top flight. In that time they have played in the UEFA Cup, now the Europa League. Their owner, Torres, has admitted he will leave the club when the stadium redevelopment is complete in December 2027. In the Premier League several clubs have owners involved in multi-club networks with Manchester United, Chelsea, Bournemouth, Brighton, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest among them.
