Mother tiger and cubs found dead in suspected mass poisoning

Independent2 days ago

Five tigers, a mother and her four cubs, were discovered dead in the MM Hills wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka, southern India.
Officials suspect the tigers died from poisoning, noting a dead cow nearby, as villagers sometimes poison carcasses to deter tigers preying on livestock.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday and was discovered on Thursday, is believed to be the highest single-day tiger casualty toll in one sanctuary in India.
Eshwar B Khandre, the state minister for forest ecology and environment, has deemed the deaths "unnatural" and initiated an investigation, vowing criminal cases for any negligence or foul play.
The deaths are particularly distressing for Karnataka, a state recognized for its successful conservation efforts and home to India's second-largest tiger population.

BREAKING NEWS Horrifying new details reveal how vicious alligator 'death rolled' grandma while her helpless husband watched

A harrowing new report has detailed how a massive alligator lunged from beneath the water and fatally attacked a canoeist near Lake Kissimmee State Park. The victim, 61-year-old Cynthia Diekema, had been canoeing with her husband in shallow water when the predator struck in May. Officials revealed the couple's 14-foot canoe was gliding through just two feet of water when the gator struck - causing Cynthia to fall directly on top of the beast, triggering the fatal attack. Her brave husband, Dave Diekema, tried to fight the alligator off, but was unable to save his beloved wife - and he was forced to watch it make off with her lifeless body. New details revealed that Cynthia's torso was ravaged by the beast - before it performed a death roll and swam away with the grandma lodged in its vicious teeth. A 'death roll' is a hunting technique employed by alligators to subdue and dismember their helpless prey. Feeding alligators is illegal and strongly advised against by the FWC which warns the practice can lead to gators losing their natural reticence and becoming a nuisance. Emergency responders rushed to the scene around 4 p.m. and found Cynthia's body floating in the water. She was recovered and pronounced dead at the scene. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) wrote in its chilling report: 'The victim was immediately bitten on the torso, and efforts by her husband to assist her were unsuccessful. The alligator performed a death roll and swam away with the victim.' A police radio call captured the horror of the moment: 'Gator grabbed her out of the canoe,' an officer relayed. '[Her husband] tried to fight the gator off. We're at the last place he saw her. He left the paddle here where he last saw her.' In the wake of Cynthia's death, multiple alligators have been trapped in the area. Officials plan to examine the stomach contents of each animal to determine which one was responsible. FWC statistics show this is one of only two 'major' alligator bites reported so far this year - and the only fatal one. In 2023, there were 23 reported bites, including two fatalities. The tragedy has prompted FWC to launch GatorWise, a new campaign to educate Floridians about gator safety and reduce human-wildlife conflict. 'Because alligators can be found in nearly any water in Florida, it's safest to always assume they're present,' said FWC's Matthew Nichols. 'GatorWise provides science-based information… to help people safely share the landscape with these important animals.' Cynthia's final Instagram post, a collage of smiling vacation photos with her husband, has now become a memorial, filled with emotional tributes. 'You seemed like a genuine, beautiful soul. How lucky you were to live such a fun and rich life for decades, but how terrible it is to lose it in such a way,' wrote one follower. 'Even more terrible that you were so loved, so cherish that your death will affect so many of those around you. May God watch over your family, may you find the peace that you deserve, and may the memory of your light never dim.' Another commented: 'So sad. Thoughts and prayers for your girls and granddaughter. I was always terrified of them when we lived down there.' Under Florida's Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program, trappers respond to reports of gators posing a danger to people or pets. FWC advises residents to avoid feeding gators, keep pets on leashes, and never swim outside designated areas, especially at night. A woman has been killed by an alligator while canoeing with her husband on a Florida lake Though fatal gator attacks are rare, this was the second incident at Lake Kissimmee in just two months. In March, a woman was bitten on the elbow by an alligator in the same area - raising alarms among locals. The FWC has advice for alligator safety which recommends keeping a safe distance if one is spotted. Swimmers should keep to designated areas and avoid swimming at night or with pets, which should also be kept on a leash and away from the water's edge. Feeding alligators is illegal and strongly advised against by the FWC which warns the practice can lead to gators losing their natural reticence and becoming a nuisance.

Horrific moment rabid bear pins down terrified ranger and starts gnawing on his head before mauling two other men to death

What was meant to be a simple father-and-son outing to collect firewood ended in tragedy after a bear launched a violent attack, killing both men and leaving a forest ranger critically injured. Father Suklal Darro, 45, and 22-year-old son Ajju Kureti set off into the forest to gather wood in the Kanker area of Chhattisgarh in east India. But in an gruesome twist, their peaceful day out turned deadly after a rabid sloth bear mauled the father and son to death. A terrifying video captured the moment the tragedy unfolded and how the ferocious beast attacked forest guard, Narayan Yadav, who heroically jumped in to save the father and son. The video shows the bear angrily charging towards Mr Yadav as a man can be heard shouting: 'Don't run away!', while the animal gets close to the ranger. The bear then jumps onto Mr Yadav and attacks him before pinning him down against the forest floor. Pressing its massive paws on his chest, the bear is heard growling as it bites into a helpless Mr Yadav's neck, face and torso as he screams for help. Luckily, the forest guard escaped, but sustained severe injuries to his hands and was rushed to hospital, where he was in critical condition. But Mr Darro and Mr Kureti were not so lucky and tragically died as a result of the violent attack. Despite efforts from paramedics, Mr Darro succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital, while Mr Kureti was pronounced dead at the scene of the attack. The scene of the attack was so horrific that officers had to use JCB's to remove Mr Kureti's body from the forest. Forest officers believed that the bear was infected by rabies. The horrific attack in January came months after a 28-year-old man was killed while two others were seriously injured after they were attacked by a sloth bear in the same state of Chhattisgarh. The incident took place on August 4, 2024, near the village of Badraudi when the victim, named locally as Chhablal, along with two pals went to collect wood. After encountering the bear, Chhablal tried to scare the animal away, but was mauled to death. His friends were also attacked and sustained critical injuries. Sloth bears are native to India, and despite their fuzzy facade, they are some of the deadliest of their species. According to National Geographic, sloth bears have mauled thousands of people and killed hundreds over the last two decades, making the species responsible for more human fatalities per capita than any other type of bear. A sloth bear's aggressive disposition, strong jaw and large canine teeth make them particularly deadly when attacked, either by humans or Bengal tigers, who occasionally see them as food. However, their typical diet is fruit, termites and bees. Sloth bears are under threat in the Indian subcontinent and they are often hunted for their meat or claws. Others are taken into captivity, treated incredibly cruelly and used as performing pets. Sloth bears are protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, but they have often been used to entertained crowds by playing imaginary guitars, smoking cigarettes and dancing to the pounding of drums, providing an income for their handlers. Scientists believe sloth bears are one of the most aggressive species because of the large human populations often existing in close proximity to their habitats. In one of the most horrific cases, an Indian farmer died after a sloth bear partially ate him in a violent attack. The farmer is understood to have ventured into a wooded area of this property near the remote village of Madhugiri in Karnataka state when the bear launched its attack. Identified only as 45-year-old Somanna, the man is understood to have come face-to-face with the bear and, fearing for his life, attacked it with a machete. The beast retaliated, mauled the farmer to death and then proceeded to eat his remains. The farmer's frantic calls for help alerted a crowd, who then began to throw stones in the hope of scaring the animal away from the village. The bear then charged at the crowd, seriously injuring a second man, before police arrived approximately four hours later and shot the animal dead

Fisherman, 32, mauled to death by crocodile in front of horrified family after being dragged from riverbank by beast

A FISHERMAN who was savagely attacked and dragged into a river by a killer crocodile has been found dead. Jacob Tuan, 32, was snatched from a riverbank in Malaysia as he was fishing for catfish with his family late at night. 4 4 4 His body was recovered by police just hours after his horrified family reported the terrifying ordeal. The victim's family said the crocodile leapt out of the water after catching Tuan's fishing wire before dragging him under the river by his waist. Father-in-law Idi Rengkang, 50, said it all happened so quickly that they had no time to react and save Tuan. Rengkang recalled: "Jacob was pulling in the line when it suddenly snapped. "Then a crocodile struck and grabbed him at the waist. He shouted, 'Abak! (Dad)' and then there was silence." The heartbroken parent said he was also struck by the reptile's dangerous tail. Tuan's body was found on Friday afternoon covered in serious bite wounds after a search-and-rescue (SAR) operation was launched. Police said he was pulled from the riverbank less than 1,000ft away from where he was taken by the beast. Padawan District Police Chief, Superintendent Irwan Hafiz Mohd Radzi, paid his respects to the fisherman. He added: "The body has been sent to the Sarawak General Hospital (HUS) for a post-mortem and the case is currently classified as sudden death." Horror moment tourist savaged by crocodile after climbing into cage for pics The killer was most likely a saltwater crocodile which are common along mangroves and rivers in Malaysia. It follows a spate of horror crocodile attacks in recent months. An idiotic tourist was savaged by a 15ft croc after climbing into the reptile's cage to get a picture with the beast. The 29-year-old man attempted the stunt in front of horrified onlookers in the Philippines after mistaking the cold-blooded beast for a statue. Gruesome footage showed the tourist wailing in agony as the predator locks her jaws around his limb and refuses to let go. The tourist miraculously survived the attack but did require over 50 stitches. Another tragic mauling left a seven-year-old boy fighting for his life after his arm was ripped off in a horrific crocodile encounter. Johandre Blom was attacked while playing in the water just a few feet away from his parents, at the Roodekoppies Dam in Brits, South Africa. Johandre was thrown around by the crocodile in its powerful jaws before his father rushed into the water. He managed to pull the boy free while the brutal predator was still circling them in the water. Johandre survived but lost his left arm in the bloody attack. 4
