KUCHING (April 30): Hartanah Kenyalang Bhd (Hartanah Kenyalang) will utilise proceeds from its upcoming initial public offering (IPO) on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia to expand its assets, in addition to expanding its design and build services.
Hartanah Kenyalang is principally an investment holding company, while its subsidiary, Hartanah Construction Sdn Bhd, is involved in building construction services, with a focus on institutional buildings such as schools and other public buildings, and other non-residential buildings; as well as infrastructure construction services, with a focus on bridges and roads.
Against the backdrop of growth prospect in Sarawak's construction sector, its managing director Seah Boon Tiat said Hartanah Kenyalang plans to utilise part of the proceeds from IPO exercise to purchase six new excavators to replace some of its older excavators in order to increase our capacity and productivity.
'In addition, we also plan to expand into offering design and build services for our building construction services segments and infrastructure construction services segments by investing in Building Information Modelling system (BIM),' he said during a press conference after its prospectus launch earlier today.
BIM is a technology that can digitise various aspects of a construction project, enabling seamless collaboration among project owners, architects, consultants, engineers and contractors by using a 3-dimensional model.
As at 30 April 2025, Seah said Hartanah Kenyalang has tendered for various building and infrastructure construction projects with an aggregate contract value of RM451 million, of which RM311 million is in respect of a design and build construction project.
its current orderbook stands at some RM150 million, he said.
'By expanding our design and build services, we are confident that this strategic move will enable us to climb up the construction industry's value chain and to increase our overall competitiveness in the marketplace,' he added.
To note, the group has 11 years of operating history in the construction industry in Sarawak since commencing business operations in 2010.
Among the ongoing construction projects currently undertaken by the group include the construction of the State Archive building in Kuching; construction of school buildings and related facilities for Yayasan International School in Sibu and Kuching; construction of two dilapidated school buildings and related facilities, namely SK Tambay in Kota Samarahan and SK Kujang Mawang in Serian; as well as the construction of the Sebauh Bridge in Bintulu as a rescue contractor.
The group has also undertaken a construction project in the neighbouring state of Sabah where the Group is involved in the construction of the Sg Padas Bridge in Tenom.
Among the construction projects completed by the group in the past include the construction of six dilapidated schools at various locations in Sarawak; construction of commercial shophouses for Samariang Square in Petrajaya, Kuching; infrastructure works for the Pan Borneo Highway from Serian to Pantu Junction in Sarawak; construction of commercial shophouses at Jalan Matang, Kuching; and provision of piling works for the Kuching International Airport Hanger in Kuching. assets Hartanah Kenyalang Bhd IPO lead orderbook

Works Ministry eyes smarter roads, less foreign labour under 13MP

KUALA LUMPUR: The Works Ministry will prioritise key infrastructure goals under the upcoming 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), with a focus on strengthening the construction industry, accelerating digitalisation, and enhancing the quality of national roads and public assets. Its minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said one of the ministry's core proposals was to secure funding to expand the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) — a digital system that enhances construction efficiency, reduces material wastage, and ultimately decreases the sector's dependency on foreign labour. "In the construction sector, BIM can help us work more efficiently and minimise wastage. More importantly, it can reduce our reliance on foreign workers. "Our industry remains heavily dependent on foreign labour, so any steps to reduce that reliance will have a major impact," he said during an interview on Berita Harian's podcast at Balai Berita today. Nanta said that the ministry also aimed at intensifying digitalisation efforts across infrastructure development and maintenance to ensure more streamlined, effective project execution. "In addition to BIM, we want to strengthen digitalisation across the board. We're proposing to secure funding that will allow us to expand the use of digital tools and technologies. "All of this supports our broader goal of delivering infrastructure projects more efficiently and improving the maintenance of national roads and assets," he said. He added that as the ministry responsible for road infrastructure, they were seeking allocations to construct and maintain roads using more robust and durable materials, while also upgrading ageing infrastructure to meet international standards. "Our ministry often requires significant funding to improve road quality — whether that's through constructing new roads with stronger materials or maintaining and upgrading existing ones. "There are now many improved materials available that allow us to build longer-lasting roads. That's something we're placing strong emphasis on," he said. Beyond physical infrastructure, Nanta stressed the importance of investing in human capital — particularly the upskilling of professionals in the construction and engineering fields, through exposure to international best practices. "We want to offer opportunities for our engineers and professionals to enhance their skills — both locally and overseas — so they can expand their knowledge, boost competencies, and adopt a global perspective. "We have many engineers and technical experts in this country, and we must support their professional development through relevant programmes. Overseas training, in particular, can help them learn from global benchmarks and bring valuable insights back to Malaysia." He said such efforts were critical to ensuring the country continues to meet and exceed international infrastructure standards. "Our roads, assets and buildings are already aligned with international standards, and we want to continue raising the bar through ongoing innovation and continuous learning." However, Nanta acknowledged that the ministry's proposals would be subject to broader national priorities, expressing hope that they would not be overlooked in the upcoming 13MP. "We hope our proposals will not be excluded; that is our hope. But we're also realistic and aware of the current economic conditions and the government's responsibility to balance the needs of all ministries and the rakyat as a whole," he said.

Bursa Malaysia tops SE Asia's in H1 2025, says CEO

KAMPAR, July 26 — Bursa Malaysia has maintained its lead position in initial public offering (IPO) activities in South-east Asia, as well as recording an overall market capitalisation exceeding RM1.9 trillion in the first half of 2025. Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Fad'l Mohamed said this achievement reflects the strength of the country's capital market and also the business community's confidence in Bursa Malaysia as a partner for long-term growth. 'Retail investors' participation remains strong and continues to be a major contributor to the country's equity market. The average daily trading value (ADV) of retail investors remains stable at about RM450 million, in line with pre-Covid-19 levels, as of the middle of this year,' he said in his speech at the 2025 Perak Stock Carnival at Tunku Abdul Rahman University (UTAR) here today. Fad'l added that there are more than 113,000, or eight per cent of active retail investors in Perak, out of a total of 1.4 million in Malaysia, with nearly 6,000 new Central Depository System (CDS) accounts opened as of the middle of this year. He said Perak's potential for further growth in the capital market is very high with its 2.5 million population. 'However, despite these impressive figures, our priority is to build retail investors who are knowledgeable, responsible and confident about their investments,' he said. Bursa Malaysia also emphasised the need to raise awareness about the growing issue of investment fraud, with the police reporting more than 2,000 cases in the first quarter of this year, he said. The exchange is intensifying financial literacy programmes such as Sens-Ability, and providing various educational materials for new and experienced investors as a preventive measure, he said. 'Bursa Malaysia also introduced investment products like BR Capital, Bursa Gold Dinar, and MyBursa to cater to various investor segments. 'We encourage everyone present to leverage the knowledge-sharing sessions and opportunities provided throughout this carnival to make informed and wise investment decisions,' he added. The carnival, held for the first time in Perak, is part of a series of programmes that started in 2022, after previous events in Pahang, Terengganu and Perlis to strengthen investment literacy among the public. Perak's Tourism, Industry, Investment, and Corridor Development committee chairman Loh Sze Yee and UTAR research and commercialisation division vice-president Prof Dr Zuraidah Abd Manaf were also present at the event. — Bernama * Editor's note: A previous edition of the story contained an error which has since been corrected.
