Where does Florida football's Billy Napier fall in CBS Sports' SEC coach rankings?

USA Today23-07-2025
Florida football head coach Billy Napier has been ranked No. 11 in CBS Sports' SEC coach rankings for the 2025 season.
Last year, Napier was ranked No. 13 on the list, although moving up two spots doesn't feel like much of an improvement despite finishing the season on a four-game win streak. Included in those victories were then-ranked No. 21 LSU, No. 9 Ole Miss, Florida State and Tulane in the Gasparilla Bowl.
But that late-season surge didn't move the needle much going into this year's SEC coach rankings.
Napier is entering his fourth and most important season with the Florida Gators and has garnered an exact record of 19-19 during his tenure.
CBS Sports' Brad Crawford emphasized the reliance that Napier has on quarterback DJ Lagway. If Lagway struggles, it could be Napier's last season in Gainesville.
Here is everything Crawford wrote about Napier heading into the 2025 college football season.
What CBS Sports said about Napier
"Napier slashed his way through what many considered the toughest schedule in college football history last fall and lived to fight another day with the Gators. And part of the reason for optimism under his tutelage is the emergence of D.J. Lagway at quarterback, a former elite recruit that Napier managed to hold onto before unleashing as a freshman in 2024.
"Lagway's the singlemost important player for the former Louisiana coach and likely determines whether his tenure will be successful or not."

49ers signing former second-round pick to help RB room

The San Francisco 49ers were just outside the top-10 in rushing yards last season, finishing with the 11th-highest average per game in 2024 (127.2). Since then, the 49ers have gotten Christian McCaffrey back from injury, moved on from Israel Abanikanda, Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason and drafted Jordan James in the fifth round. With James missing the team's last training camp session on Tuesday at their SAP Performance Facility in Santa Clara, California, the 49ers worked out multiple running backs, including old friend Jeff Wilson Jr., D'Ernest Johnson, Deon Jackson and Ameer Abdullah on Wednesday. Then, on Thursday morning, CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz reported that they're signing Ameer Abdullah to their 90-man roster. Abdullah, 32, was an impressive running back and kick returner at Nebraska from 2011-14, earning All-Big Ten honors three times in his four seasons before the Detroit Lions took him in the second round (No. 54 overall) of the 2015 NFL draft. He's spent 2.5 years with the Lions, another 2.5 with the Minnesota Vikings, one with the Carolina Panthers and three with the Las Vegas Raiders. In his 10 professional seasons, he's rushed for 1,994 yards and eight touchdowns on 4.0 yards per attempt while catching 203 passes for another 1,468 yards and 11 scores. Abdullah has also averaged 25.1 per kick return on 151 attempts over the last 10 years. With McCaffrey at the top of the depth chart, Abdullah will now slide in behind with James, Isaac Guerendo, Patrick Taylor and undrafted rookie Corey Kiner. However, Abdullah could be taking James' spot if he's expected to miss significant time after he was unexpectedly absent from the last training camp session. Previewing the 2025 season for Texas A&M OL Trey Zuhn III with his player profile

As we gear up for the 2025 football season, Aggies Wire is breaking down every player on the Texas A&M roster. Throughout the preseason, each profile will highlight a player's background, recruiting rankings out of high school, and projected role under head coach Mike Elko. Trey Zuhn III is one of three Aggies on the offensive line considered among the premier players at his position in the conference. He's held a starting spot since his redshirt freshman season and routinely picked up awards at the team's annual banquets. He was part of the group that helped the running game rank 26th in the nation and second in the SEC, averaging 195.5 yards per game. Zuhn could have entered the NFL Draft this year after a season in which he was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week and earned a spot on the 2024 All-SEC Third Team. Instead, he chose to return for a chance to compete for an SEC title and improve his stock ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. Preseason Player Profile Recruiting Rankings (Class of 2021) The former four-star prospect was a top recruit out of Colorado, where he was a two-sport athlete, competing in shot put and discus alongside football. Depth Chart Outlook Trey Zuhn III is a Day 1 starter at left tackle and is expected to be one of several Aggies linemen drafted in 2026. His size, footwork, and impressive athleticism make him one of the most important players on the 2025 roster, protecting Marcel Reed's blindside throughout the season.
