Two arrested from Bengal for ‘spying' for Pakistan intelligence agency
The arrests, made late Saturday night, followed a search operation across two locations in Bardhaman.
The accused, identified as Mukesh Rajak and Rakesh Kumar Gupta, were produced before a Kolkata court on Monday, where the judge remanded them to STF custody for seven days. Investigators initially allegedly found that both individuals have links with Pakistan's spy agency.
According to STF sources, Mukesh Rajak is a resident of Canal Road, Panagarh, and is reportedly associated with a voluntary organisation in Memari. Rakesh Kumar Gupta is said to be a resident of Bhabanipur, Kolkata, who allegedly operated as a spy under the guise of working for the same organisation.
Investigators believe the espionage operation involved the sharing of mobile SIM card One-Time Passwords (OTPs) in exchange for money, facilitating the clandestine transfer of information. Both individuals reportedly lived in rented houses in different parts of Bardhaman.
The arrests came after the State Police STF received 'a tip-off from a secret source'. Rajak was apprehended from a nursing home where he was undergoing treatment, while Rakesh Kumar Gupta was arrested from a rented house in Memari.
Officials are now trying to uncover more information through interrogations.

Digi Arrest: STF nabs two for duping scientist of ₹1.29 crore
Lucknow: The UP Special Task Force (STF) on Sunday arrested two members of a cyber fraud gang near Ekana Stadium for extorting Rs 1.29 crore from a retired scientist by subjecting him to a three-day-long 'digital arrest' while posing as CBI officers. The arrested accused have been identified as Pradeep Kumar Singh (50), a native of Ayodhya currently residing in Sector 6C, Vrindavan Yojna, and running Narayani Infra Developers Pvt Ltd; and Mahfooz (21), a resident of Nabeullah Road, Wazirganj, who was arrested near Faizabad Road. According to police, the victim, Shukdev Nandi, a retired scientist from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly, was contacted via WhatsApp by gang members impersonating CBI officials. Using fear and intimidation, they digitally confined him and forced him to transfer Rs 1.29 crore into various accounts over three days. The victim lodged a complaint at the Bareilly cyber police station on June 26, leading to an FIR under Sections 318(4), 319(2), 308(6), 61(2), and 111 of the BNS, along with Section 66D of the IT Act. The initial investigation by Bareilly Police identified Pradeep as a key accused. Four members of the gang were arrested on July 5. Both accused have been handed over to the local police for further legal action.

Sena UBT workers thrash auto driver, force him to apologise for 'anti-Marathi' comments
Mumbai: In yet another language-related violence in Maharashtra, an auto driver has been beaten up and forced to apologise by Shiv Sena (UBT) workers in Palghar district's Virar for 'anti-Marathi' comments. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. Virar police on Sunday claimed that it hasn't received a formal complaint in the matter and hence no case has been registered. According to the video that has gone viral, arguments on overtaking snowballed into Marathi versus non-Marathi issues. While auto driver Raju Patwa, originally from UP, refused to speak in Marathi, he can also be heard saying: "Hindi Bolunga, Bhojpuri bolunga, par Marathi nahi bolunga, do what you want to do." It is alleged Patwa also made some derogatory remarks against the Marathi language, Maharashtra and Marathi icons. Apparently, those who had heated exchange with Patwa are from UP's Jhansi, but they are well-versed in Marathi. In the video, UBT Sena workers can be seen assaulting the auto driver. He is then made to apologise by saying, " I apologise to the people of Maharashtra for insulting Marathi." Bihar's 'Tanishq robbery' mastermind, LJP leader's murder accused nabbed by Uttarakhand STF
DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting a notorious gangster from Bihar. The criminal was a wanted suspect in a major jewellery heist worth Rs 3.70 crore and is also accused of murdering a Lok Janshakti Party leader. According to the STF, the accused, identified as Mohammad Rahul alias Shakib, was hiding under a fake identity in Kaliyar Sharif area of Roorkee, Haridwar. His arrest on Sunday marks the end of several months of his evasion. Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bhullar of the STF provided detailed information about the arrest. He stated, "Mohammad Rahul alias Shakib was a wanted suspect in a multi-crore jewellery robbery and is also accused of murdering a Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader in Bihar." SSP Bhullar elaborated on the Tanishq showroom robbery that took place on July 26 last year, in Purnia district, Bihar.
