CM Siddaramaiah challenges BJP-JDS to debate on development; slams ‘false propaganda'
Siddaramaiah was addressing a mega convention, Sadhana Samavesha, organised by his government, where development works worth Rs 2,578 crore for Mysuru were inaugurated and foundation stones laid. 'I wish the BJP and JDS leaders had come for the event to see the programmes we have launched,' he said, asking the Opposition if the State Government was bankrupt as claimed by them owing to the guarantees, then how will they launch Rs 2,578 crore worth projects.
Clarifying that the event was not a show of strength of Siddaramaiah, the Chief Minister said that the government has exhibited to the people the strength of development through the samavesha. He said that the BJP had never come to power on its own and had always gotten back door entry through Operation Lotus.
Recalling that the JDS had won 59 seats under his leadership, it has now been reduced to 18 seats. 'JDS is losing its strength every five years and will never come to power in the state. Knowing that they are losing their base and sheen, JDS has joined hands with BJP and won just two seats in the 2024 Parliamentary polls.
'NDA won 19 seats in Karnataka. But its leaders like HD Kumaraswamy, Basavaraj Bommai and Pralhad Joshi have not raised their voice against the injustice meted out to the state in the devolution of taxes. The Centre has just given us Rs 65,000 crore as against Rs 4.5 lakh crore in taxes,' the CM said.
He criticised PM Narendra Modi and the BJP for 'copying the guarantee schemes of Karnataka' and implementing them in Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, and now in poll-bound Bihar. 'We are focusing on the 90 per cent of the population, whereas the BJP is worried about the 10 per cent population from the upper caste and the rich, as they are against social justice and the Constitution,' he said.

Kokate in trouble again over video of him playing mobile game in Assembly
Maharashtra Agriculture minister Manikrao Kokate landed in yet another controversy after a purported video showing him playing Rummy game on his mobile phone inside the legislative Assembly surfaced on Sunday. Opposition parties slammed Kokate saying the state government was busy playing cards game while farmers were suffering due to crop loss and non-announcement of farm loan waiver. However, Kokate claimed that he was merely checking the proceedings of the other House on You Tube and skipping the advertisement popped up during the video. Kokate is an MLA of the Nationalist Congress Party led by Ajit Pawar from Sinnar Assembly constituency. Sharing the video, Nationalist Congres Party (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar said, 'The ruling NCP cannot function without consulting the BJP. It seems that's the reason why when several agriculture issues are pending and on an average eight farmers commit suicide daily, the Agriculture minister has no work but to play Rummy on a mobile phone,' said. Congress Legislative party leader Vijay Wadettiwar said, 'On one side, farmers are dying while the agriculture minister is busy playing Rummy. I appeal to farmers and people of this state to teach a befitting lesson to this fraud government.' Claiming that the Opposition was trying to defame the government, Kokate said it was Solitaire and not Rummy. 'I was sitting in the legislative assembly and was checking the happenings of the Upper House on YouTube. An advertisement appeared and I skipped it. I was not playing anything,' said Kokate. According to BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar, 'There is no law under which action can be taken against the minister. At best, he will be warned… I had told Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to make a law against such activities, but he said the right is with the Central government.' Claiming that members who were found watching videos on cellphones were made to 'sit at home' in Karnataka, NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad said, 'Kokate is a minister but he has not replied to even one poser in the House. The minister is found playing Junglee Rummy, which has destroyed several families in Maharashtra. These ministers have no shame and have no respect for the state legislature. Now I want to see how Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will react. I am curious what he will do.' Recalling the earlier instances when Kokate courted controversy, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Kishori Pednekar said, 'Earlier, he was found making irresponsible statements. The way he is behaving is an insult to democracy… There was a time when MLAs were held in high esteem but now, they are stooping low every day.' Speaking at his home district Nasik while interacting with farmers affected by unseasonal rain and hail storms in April this year, Kokate had said, 'Farmers take loan and wait for five-ten years for loan waiver. The government will give money to farmers to invest in agriculture. This money is for water, irrigation and farm ponds. The government makes capital investments. What do you do with the money that you get from the farm loan waiver? Farmers say they want crop insurance money but spend it on weddings and engagements.' In another instance, he said, 'Even a beggar does not take Rs 1, but here we are giving crop insurance for Rs 1. Even then there are people who try to misuse it. There are irregularities, like people from other states applying.'

AP Adivasi JAC demands jobs for only tribals in Agency areas
Andhra Pradesh Adivasi JAC on Sunday demanded that jobs in Agency (tribal) areas be given to tribal candidates only. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should keep his promise of implementing 100% reservation in Scheduled Areas to STs, said JAC ASR district chairman Rama Rao Dora in a statement on Sunday. Only ST candidates should be appointed as teachers in the tribal areas in the recent DSC notification for teachers, he said. The JAC leader recalled that former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao had issued G.O. no. 275 to remove the inequalities being faced by the tribal people in social, education and employment sectors. Subsequently, Mr. Naidu as the Chief Minister brought out G.O. no. 3 to overcome legal challenges. The Constitution has made it clear that it was the responsibility of the governments to safeguard the job prospects of the tribal people living in the scheduled areas, he added. While welcoming the decision to hold review meetings with Tribal Welfare Director Pratibha Bharathi with all ITDAs on G.O. no. 3 and on other tribal welfare acts, Mr. Rama Rao sought that an IAS officer should be specially appointed to hear the views of the tribal people and take representations from them.

1 2 Madurai: A Chennai cyber crime police team on Sunday conducted inquiry with the 293rd pontiff of Madurai Adheenam, Sri La Sri Harihara Sri Gnana Sambandha Desika Swamigal, at the Adheenam mutt in Madurai in connection with the case against him for his alleged provocative remarks that could incite conflict between religious communities. The Adheenam had claimed a conspiracy to murder him, suggesting links to Pakistan and Muslim men, following a road accident at Ulundurpet in Kallakurichi on May 2. Though his claims were later found to be entirely false after a police investigation into the road accident involving his car, his claims had by then been widely shared on media and social media platforms. On Saturday, the Chennai principal sessions court granted the Adheenam conditional anticipatory ball. On Sunday, a Chennai cyber crime police team came to the mutt near Meenakshi Amman temple and conducted an inquiry with the Adheenam. His advocate told reporters that the Adheenam fully cooperated with the inquiry despite undergoing a surgery recently and suffering from illness. "The police did not permit even a helper inside during the inquiry which lasted around 45 minutes.
