Trump says he ended friendship with Epstein because he 'stole people that worked for me'

The Hindu5 days ago
U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday (July 28, 2025) that he ended his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein and threw the now-disgraced financier out of his private club in Florida after Epstein betrayed him more than once by hiring people who had worked for him.
Mr. Trump did not say what the people's jobs were or where they worked, and the White House had no immediate comment. But with the fresh comments, Trump shed a little light on the reason why he has said he had ended the relationship with Epstein, though Steven Cheung, the White House communications director, recently said on X that, "The fact is that the President kicked him out of his club for being a creep.'
Epstein was found dead, authorities say, in a New York jail cell in 2019 as he awaited trial on sex trafficking charges. Mr. Trump and his top allies stoked conspiracy theories about Epstein's death before Mr. Trump returned to power and are now struggling to manage the fallout after the Justice Department said Epstein did in fact die by suicide and that it would not release additional documents about the case.
The President and his allies, some of whom are now in the administration, had promised to release the files.
The case has dogged Mr. Trump at home and abroad and even followed Vice President J.D. Vance during an appearance in his home state of Ohio on Monday. A small group of protesters assembled outside a factory in Canton that Vance toured, holding signs that spelled out 'JD Protects Pedophiles' and indicating that 'GOP' stands for 'Guardians Of Pedophiles.' The Republican President spoke at his golf property in Turnberry, Scotland, as he sat with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer after the leaders had met and were answering questions from US and UK journalists. Asked to explain why the relationship had faltered, Mr. Trump said, 'That's such old history, very easy to explain, but I don't want to waste your time by explaining it.' He then explained, saying he stopped talking to Epstein after 'he did something that was inappropriate.' 'He hired help and I said, Don't ever do that again,'" Mr. Trump said. 'He stole people that worked for me. I said, Don't ever do that again.' He did it again, and I threw him out of the place, persona non grata.'
'I threw him out and that was it. I'm glad I did, if you want to know the truth,' Mr. Trump added.
Mr. Trump recently directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to seek the public release of sealed grand jury transcripts in the case. One federal judge has denied that request; a second judge has yet to rule.
Vance on Monday visited the factory to promote Trump's tax cut and border bill, but also addressed the Epstein matter, saying the president wants 'full transparency' in the case.
'The president has been very clear. We're not shielding anything," Vance said in response to a reporter's question. 'The president has directed the attorney general to release all credible information and, frankly, to go and find additional credible information related to the Jeffrey Epstein case.' 'Some of that stuff takes time,' Mr. Vance said, adding that Trump has been 'very clear. He wants full transparency.' Mr. Trump had said back in 2019 that Epstein was a fixture in Palm Beach but that the two had had a falling-out a long time ago and he hadn't spoken with Epstein for 15 years.
Mr. Trump on Monday also denied contributing to a compilation of letters and drawings to mark Epstein's 50th birthday, first reported on by the Wall Street Journal. The newspaper said the letter believed to be from Mr. Trump included a drawing of a woman's body.
'I don't do drawings of women, that I can tell you,' Mr. Trump said.

Prajwal Revanna, former JD(S) MP, given life sentence in rape case

Bengaluru: A Special Court here on Saturday sentenced to life imprisonment, former MP and suspended JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna in a rape case. The Special Court for MPs/MLAs Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat also imposed a total fine of Rs 10 lakh on the accused. The court had on Friday convicted the 34-year-old in one of the four sexual abuse and rape cases registered against him and reserved the sentencing for Saturday. The case pertains to a 48-year-old woman who was working as a help at the family's Gannikada farmhouse in Hassan district's Holenarasipura. She was allegedly raped twice — at Hassan farm house and Bengaluru residence– in 2021 and the act recorded by the accused on his mobile phone. Earlier in the day, while the prosecution sought life sentence for Revanna, the 34 year-old sought leniency, claiming he did nothing wrong and that his only mistake was his 'fast' growth in politics. He broke down in court as he appealed to the judge for a lesser punishment. He told the court that he is a BE Mechanical graduate, and has always passed on merit. '…they say that I have raped multiple women, but none of the women have come out voluntarily to complain, they came six days prior to election (Lok Sabha polls last year)…the prosecution side brought them purposefully and made them give a complaint,' Prajwal told the court. Pointing out that the woman (victim) had not complained to anyone including her husband or kin about the alleged rape, he said that she comes and gives complaint when certain videos were circulated. Stating that he will bow down to the court's conviction, Prajwal said, 'I have a family, I have not seen my mother and father for six months now…..please give me a less sentence is what I request the court.' 'The only mistake I made in my life is growing fast in politics,' Prajwal, arrested in May last year upon his arrival from Germany, told the court. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) which probed the case had filed a 1,632-page charge sheet with 113 witnesses in the case in September, 2024. Revanna was booked under sections 376(2)(k) (being in a position of control or dominance over a woman, commits rape on such woman), 376 (2)(n) (repeated rape on the same woman), 354A (sexual harassment), 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 354C (voyeurism), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 201 (disappearance of evidence) of the IPC, and Section 66E (violation of privacy) of the IT Act. Special Public Prosecutor Ashok Nayak and Additional SPP B N Jagadeesha following Prajwal Revanna's conviction on Friday had said that the court had accepted the prosecution's case and convicted him on all counts. Noting that the prosecution examined 26 witnesses and marked 180 documents and the main evidence is of the victim, Nayak said the prosecution relied not only on the oral evidence, but also the digital and technical evidence, DNA report and Forensic Sciences Laboratory report. 'The clothes that were worn by the victim during the rape were also identified and the Investigation Officer (IO) was successful in seizing them even after three-four years. Also, digital evidence played a role as the accused himself had recorded the video.' Four separate cases have been registered against Revanna, who is facing charges of rape and sexual harassment, and the SIT was tasked with probing cases. Prajwal Revanna is the grandson of former Prime Minister and JD (S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda. The cases came to light after pen-drives containing explicit videos allegedly involving Revanna were reportedly circulated in Hassan, ahead of Lok Sabha polls there on April 26, 2024. Revanna was arrested by the SIT on May 31 last year, upon his arrival at Bengaluru Airport from Germany in connection with a case registered at the Holenarasipura Town Police Station. Revanna had failed in his bid to retain the Hassan parliamentary constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. JD(S) suspended him from the party following the cases filed against him.

‘It's those lips…'; Trump's praise for Karoline Leavitt's face sparks uproar, netizens reveal ‘disturbing' Epstein link

President Donald Trump has lauded his White official Karoline Leavitt, claiming that no one has been a greater press secretary than her and that she has become a celebrity in her current position. The POTUS added that he adores her face, intellect and also enjoys 'the way her lips move.' U.S. President Donald Trump praised White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, saying: 'She's great. She's a great person, actually. I don't think anybody has ever had a better press secretary than Karoline. She's been amazing."(REUTERS) Leavitt, who was named press secretary for Trump on November 15, 2024, is the White House's youngest press secretary ever. On Thursday, Leavitt endorsed Trump's demand for the Nobel Peace Prize, stating that he has played a significant role in resolving multiple global crises. Leavitt reaffirmed the appeal for the Nobel Peace Prize, claiming that in his six months as US president, Trump has produced at least one peace agreement every month. In an interview with Newsmax presenter Rob Finnerty on Friday night, Trump praised Leavitt, stating, "'It's that face. It's that brain. It's those lips, the way they move. They move like she's a machine gun.' Trump continued by praising her growing notoriety, saying, 'She's great. She's a great person, actually. I don't think anybody has ever had a better press secretary than Karoline. She's been amazing.' Fumed netizens react Reacting to Trump's remarks, several people highlighted his bond with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, with one writing: 'When Trump talks about women, it's almost always about their looks or sexuality. Rarely their intellect or accomplishments. That pattern makes his disturbing connection with Epstein, and their shared obsession with young girls, all the more believable.' 'He's a creepy old man. He doesn't even understand what he just said. Major yikes,' another said. 'Trump's comments are sick and twisted!' a third person stated. Trump also discussed Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche's nine-hour talk with Ghislaine Maxwell, the ex-girlfriend off the late sex offender, at a federal prison estate in Florida. 'I think [Blanche] probably wanted to know, you know, just to get a feeling of it, because we'd like to release everything, but we don't want people to get hurt that shouldn't be hurt,' Trump told Finnerty. 'I want to release everything,' the president declared. 'I just don't want people to get hurt.' Trump went on to say, "I think Todd went in just to make sure that innocent people aren't hurt." He insisted that he has not discussed Maxwell with his deputy attorney general and is unsure if a transcript of the interview would be made public.

'U.S N-Subs On Gunpoint': Moscow's FIRST Ferocious Response To Trump Deploying Nuclear Submarines

After US President Trump confirmed moving two nuclear submarines near Russian waters, Russian Duma official Viktor Vodolatsky dismissed it as "political theater," stating that Russia has "significantly more" submarines and that Trump's "two boats" have "been in our sights for a long time." He emphasized Trump's instability and called for diplomacy. Trump's move followed "highly provocative" remarks from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who referenced the Cold War-era "Dead Hand" nuclear retaliation system on Telegram, mocking Trump's ultimatum strategy and warning of a direct war with the US, not just Ukraine.
