Petrobras and Exxon Team Up to Win Disputed Oil Blocks in Brazil

Bloomberg17-06-2025
Petrobras , Exxon Mobil Corp. and Chevron Corp. won exploration rights in Brazil's Equatorial Margin, betting that the nation's environmental regulator will finally open the promising offshore oil region for drilling after years of delay.
Brazil sold 19 out of 47 blocks offered in Foz do Amazonas basin in deep waters near the equator, making it the most competitive of the five basins where acreage was offered. It is in the wider region known as the Equatorial Margin, where the oil industry sees the best opportunity for Brazil to replenish oil reserves and prevent production from declining in the early 2030s.

Whitecap, fresh off Veren deal, reports higher production in Q2

CALGARY — Whitecap Resources Inc., fresh off its $15-billion combination with Veren Inc., has reported higher revenues and oil and gas production in its latest quarterly results. The Calgary-based oil and gas producer says net income was $310.6 million for the three months ended June 30, up from $244.5 million during the same 2024 quarter. That amounted to 33 cents per diluted share compared with 41 cents per share a year earlier. Chevron cuts 575 jobs in Houston after closing Hess acquisition, filing reveals

(Reuters) -Chevron cut 575 positions in the Houston area after it completed its $55 billion merger with Hess, a Texas Workforce Commission filing revealed on Wednesday. According to a Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification dated July 18, the U.S. energy major laid off the employees when its takeover of Hess was officially completed. The reductions will take effect on September 26, according to the notice. The merger was delayed for over a year but even as the green light for it was awaited, Chevron had been making preparations so it could close the deal with Hess quickly, Reuters previously reported. Information technology workers from Chevron and Hess met regularly to plan the integration, and Hess employees were informed that they could request a severance package following the deal's close. Converting technology and combining employees from both companies would take a few months, Chevron CEO Mike Wirth had told Reuters in an interview last week.
