He called for a 'polluter pays approach' - warning local communities lose out on frontline policing while forces are stretched covering

.
Sir Mark told the BBC: 'Policing of football matches across the country, mainly Premier League, cost policing £70 million it doesn't get back from football clubs. In London, it's more than a third of that.
'If you're running a profit making event that because of the nature of it, requires security, requires policing to support your security because of the criminality that is going to be experienced, why isn't the organiser paying for that, rather than local communities who lose their resources to go to football matches?'
The Met boss also blasted Britain's outdated 43-force policing model - saying it's been 'not fit for purpose for at least two decades' and urgently needs ripping up.

He warned that with disappointing funding from Chancellor Rachel Reeves, forces face brutal cuts - with 3,300 cops and staff already slashed.
Sir Mark added: 'We've cut 1,600 over the last couple of years… 1,700 officers and staff this year, that 3,300 out of an organisation just over 40,000 is a big hit.'
He's now pushing for radical reforms and bigger regional forces, saying: 'We need to reduce the number of forces by two-thirds… making better use of the limited funding available.'
And he warned unless urgent action is taken, overstretched cops will be forced to stop investigating some crimes altogether.

Colton and Martin lead Tyrone to Minor final victory over Kerry

Tyrone 1-16 Kerry 1-15 NO JOEL KERR? No problem for Tyrone who, it turned out, had a terrific replacement for him in the shape of All-Ireland MFC final matchwinner Diarmuid Martin. Rising star Kerr couldn't play in this Newbridge final due to being contracted with Premier League side West Ham United. Tyrone's answer was to draft in Martin who more than filled Kerr's boots, striking the winning point in the third minute of stoppage time and three crucial points overall. Tadgh O Slatara challenges for the ball with Diarmuid Martin and Padraig Donaghy. Tom Maher / INPHO Tom Maher / INPHO / INPHO There were huge contributions too from Peter Colton, who hit a vital goal from a penalty in the 52nd minute and finished with 1-2, Eoin Long and midfielder James Mulgrew while Padraig Goodman was terrific in the number three jersey. It was a sensational finale from Tyrone who trailed by four points with 11 minutes to go and who were still a point back at the start of stoppage time. Colton's point from a free ultimately levelled it up at 1-15 apiece before Martin pounced for the winning point in the 63rd minute. Kerry had a chance in the very last play but Ben Kelliher, who finished with 1-2, wasn't given a free in despite being brought to ground close to goal. It's Tyrone's first All-Ireland minor title since 2010 and with back-to-back U-20 titles already tucked away by the Red Hands, and the seniors through to next weekend's semi-final, a glorious treble could very well be on the cards. The Kerr situation added an extra layer of intrigue beforehand with conflicting reports around his availability. He was eventually ruled out, robbing Tyrone of a vital scoring outlet as Kerr demonstrated with his semi-final goal against Roscommon. Martin, who came as the last sub in the semi-final, was Kerr's direct replacement and the Fintona talent was at the pitch of the game immediately, scoring a 16th minute point and enjoying a terrific head-to-head with Tadhg O Slatara. Tyrone full-forward Eoin Long was tracked by Ronan Sheridan while at the other end, Kerry's in-form scorepoacher Kelliher had Ciaran McCrystal for company. Kerry hit the interval with a narrow 1-7 to 0-8 lead and, considering they were playing into the stiff wind, must have been content with that. Alex Tuohy, wearing number 12, covered huge ground for Kerry and chipped a point. It was pretty much the same story for wing-back Danny Murphy who punished Tyrone with his probing runs. Advertisement Tyrone briefly led by three points late in the first-half after a Mulgrew two-pointer was followed by a Long single. But Kerry scores from captain Gearoid White and Murphy were followed by the Kelliher goal just before the break. Murphy was involved again, playing the pop pass that Kelliher took at speed coming in from the right before rounding the goalkeeper and striking home. Tyrone restarted the brighter, initially at least, and levelled the game up for the sixth and seventh times before Kerry again pulled clear. Ben Kelliher is challenged by Elliott Kerr and Ciarán McCrystal. Tom Maher / INPHO Tom Maher / INPHO / INPHO Two-pointers from White and Kelliher left Kerry 1-13 to 0-12 ahead but a simmering Tyrone suddenly came bubbling to the boil. In the last 11 minutes they outscored Kerry by 1-4 to 0-2, the goal coming from a Colton penalty after sub Matthew F Daly was fouled by Curtin. Long also struck the post during the Tyrone blitz and fired a separate opportunity just over as Gerard Donnelly's side turned the screw impressively. Lando Norris lands first ever British Grand Prix win and F1 ace ends unwanted record as rain causes chaos at Silverstone

LANDO NORRIS was reduced to TEARS as he won a treacherous British Grand Prix which saw five cars out of the race and three safety cars. The Bristol-born 25-year-old has gone from asking for autographs at Silverstone as a kid to winning the home race with over 10,000 fans in his very own Landostand. Stewards felt the Aussie driver had slowed down unnecessarily under the safety car as Norris roared 'wooo, we did it' as he crossed the line, with him now just eight points behind Piastri in the driver's standings. Piastri came in second and Nico Hulkenberg secured third-place and a first-ever podium in 239 starts as fourth-place Lewis Hamilton was denied a first Ferrari podium. There was chaos before the race had even started as several drivers including At the start Piastri got away well and had a sniff on the inside of Verstappen, but the Red Bull stayed firm on his line and held the lead. The Dutchman then got off like a shot-gun from then, snapping well beyond the two McLarens behind him. The Ferrari even pulled alongside the McLaren but young buck Norris just held off the old maestro. Max Verstappen SPINS OUT and loses nine places in bizarre safety car incident as Oscar Piastri is given penalty The virtual safety car was called into action as Esteban Ocon clattered into Advertisement ANOTHER VSC was called into action, this time to allow Gabriel Bortoleto's car to be cleared as he had spun off track causing a piece to fling off, before desperately trying to make it back to the pint lane. Leclerc, Russell and Antonelli were slogging it out on slick tyres designed for a dry track, well behind those on the inters. There was thrilling racing at the front of the pack though, with Piastri snapping at Verstappen's heels before easily dispatching him on lap eight for the lead. The heavens opened and Verstappen, whose tyres were knackered, ran wide and allowed Norris to pass him. Advertisement The top three then all stopped for fresh intermediate tyres but Norris suffered a dreadful stop and lost his place back to Verstappen. The rain lashed down and Hamilton stated the obvious on his team radio , saying: 'It's definitely wet tyres right now.' His team-mate Leclerc had a huge droplet of water in his visor causing him to go completely off track and cross country but he recovered to carry on On lap 14, it continued peeing it down and with the conditions getting treacherous the safety car was sent out. Advertisement That was terrible news for Piastri, who had opened up a 13-second gap out front. It was out for five laps before Piasri got away again strongly, holding his lead with Norris tucked behind Verstappen in third. Russell attacked Hamilton for eighth but the seven-time world champ got the place back and one more as his old teammate was caught behind Ocon. There was more chaos and another safety car as Isack Hadjar slammed into the wall and was luckily left unhurt. Advertisement The Racing Bulls youngster had crashed into the back of Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli and flew off track. It was a bonkers restart as Verstappen momentarily pulled in front of Piastri who slowed right down. Amid all the confusion Verstappen spun dramatically before recovering and dropping all the way back into 11th. The Dutchman was left fuming, and said on his team radio: "Whoa, Mate! Jesus, just suddenly again slows down!" Advertisement The stewards were then investigating Piastri for a Safety Car infringement and he was later slapped with the ten-second time penalty. Norris just needed to stay within touching distance from his teammate and the Silverstone crown would be his. Antonelli was forced to retire for Merc, with the damage from his earlier collision proving too great. It was game on for Hamilton, who licked his lips at the prospect of first Ferrari podium, nipping past Pierre Gasly on lap 29. Advertisement He then left Lance Stroll for dust and soared into fourth - he just needed to deal with Sauber's Hulkenberg, but that was easier said than done. Russell's gamble to stop early and put on hard tyres did not work for him as he spun off the sodden track, bumping across the grass and re-emerging onto the track in 13th. On lap 42, Hamilton's tyres were shot and he stopped for a set of softs before coming back out in fourth. He dropped behind Leclerc but both Ferraris went off track before the Monaco-born driver pitted and Hamilton shuffled ahead again. Advertisement Sassy Piastri bizarrely said McLaren should swap his position with Norris if they think that he was unfairly punished for the safety car mishap. You can imagine Norris' reaction to that and the Aussie driver's request was shut down by his team, not that the Brit knew anything about it as he danced over the line in dreamland at his stomping ground.
