Melbourne's first Hologram Zoo opening in Ringwood Square
Majestic humpback whales, herds of elephants, tigers and even extinct dinosaurs will be on display at a new zoo in Ringwood.
The only catch? All the animals will be life-size 3D holograms.
Eastern suburbs locals Kerri Pearce and Andrew Campey will open Melbourne's first Hologram Zoo at Ringwood Square on Saturday.
'We are so excited to have people come face-to-face with animals in a way they would never be able to see them,' Dr Pearce said.
The zoo will have 20 different wildlife enclosures with animals from the sea, savanah, rainforests and even extinct dinosaurs.
It will also have a function space for parties and a photo studio.
'We are both vegans and nerds that want to pour our heart and souls in conservation,' Dr Pearce said.
'This zoo is a more sustainable way to connect with nature and a responsible way to experience wildlife without captivity.
'No live animals means zero environmental footprint while still inspiring a love for wildlife and conservation.'
Dr Pearce said the 20 enclosures are just the beginning for the Hologram Zoo, with more animal encounters and experiences to be added to the space in the coming months.
The holograms were created by Bruce Dell's Axiom Holographics, the company behind
Bill Gates' hologram aquarium in the Maldives and a hologram table for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Hologram Zoo is located at 24 Charter St, Ringwood.

According to multiple studies, there are very scientific reasons why a person may experience more motion sickness in an electric vehicle. Lack of previous experience Though EVs are becoming increasingly popular, most people's experiences with cars are based on combustion cars. If you've learnt how to drive in a conventional petrol car, you've likely adapted to their specific cues. According to a 2020 study published in Applied Ergonomics, the lack of a traditional engine sound could be an influencing factor to motion sickness. 'Being able to anticipate upcoming motion is known to potentially mitigate sickness resulting from provocative motion,' the 2020 study said. It's not uncommon to experience nausea in an EV. In an electric vehicle, drivers may experience a low hum or even no sound at all, making it harder for their brain to anticipate movement. 'If we are accustomed to travelling in non-EVs, we are used to understanding the car's motion based on signals such as engine revs, engine vibrations, torque, etc,' William Emond, a PhD student at the Université de Technologie de Belfort-Montbéliard in France, explained to The Guardian. 'Yet, travelling in an EV for the first time is a new motion environment for the brain, which needs adaptation,' Regenerative braking Similarly, EV's 'regenerative braking' is also a contributing factor to nausea in drivers. For those unaware, regenerative braking is a system where the vehicle's kinetic energy is generated automatically through the action of braking, and routed back into the battery as usable power. For drivers, it can feel like the car is slowing down when they haven't prepared for it, and throw off their balance. 'Better knowledge on self-motion allows us to anticipate motion forces, which is crucial for motion sickness,' Emond explained to The Guardian. 'Yet, when the motion forces as estimated or anticipated by the brain differ from what actually is experienced, then the brain interprets this 'neural mismatch' as a situation of conflict. 'If this conflict persists over time, it may surpass a threshold for triggering autonomic reactions of the body such as symptoms apparent to 'motion sickness'.' 'We're seeing a clear shift towards more fuel-efficient vehicles, with strong growth in New Energy Vehicles – which include hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and battery electric vehicles,' Mr Booth said. Huge blow for Channel 10 as 10 News+ attracts less viewers than The Project

Network 10 received yet another disappointing blow after it's replacement for The Project scored less viewers in its timeslot than the axed show regularly attracted. 10 News+ had received an intense marketing blitz over the last two weeks as the network made its bid to win over new viewers with their promise of putting 'the truth first'. Sadly for Network 10, that promise wasn't enough to win over viewers, with a mere 291,000 tuning in on Monday evening. To put those numbers into perspective, 7News attracted 1.5 million viewers, with 9News close behind with 1.45 million. 10 News+ failed to attract many viewers on Monday night. After shedding almost half its audience, it remains to be seen whether the network's gamble of cancelling The Project was the right decision. Viewers delivered their verdict on social media on Monday evening, with many labelling 10 News+ a 'Temu ACA'. Is this the new Schapelle Corby story we all need to know about. 10 news should be very proud,' they wrote. Another added: 'That was a decent first show'. The news show's interview with the Prime Minister also sparked some viewer backlash, with journalists Denham Hitchcock and Amelia Brace being called out for their interviewing techniques, which saw the PM interrupted multiple times. 'Some ridiculous questions and hectoring tone from both hosts in this very disappointing interview with the PM,' ranted one. 'You replaced #theprojecttv for this tabloid junk? I'm turning this off!' complained another. 'This is trash, so dry and bland. Time for the project 2.0 and a game show in a prime time slot up against Home and Away. Good luck!' tweeted a third unimpressed viewer. While a fourth added: 'Oh dear. I thought I would give 10 News Plus a go. I feel like we have regressed 20 years!'
