From 2,400 to 700 Man-Hours: Efficiency Gets a 75% Boost
According to the RTA, the deployment of ARIIS enables a dramatic reduction in human labour. Traditionally, conducting full-scale inspections of Dubai Metro's extensive rail infrastructure required approximately 2,400 man-hours by human personnel.
With ARIIS in operation, this number can be slashed to just 700 man-hours, delivering a 75% increase in operational efficiency.
In practical terms, this means:
Faster inspection cycles, enabling the rail network to be checked more frequently and more thoroughly.
Reduction in manual inspections by up to 70%, minimising human error and safety risks.
A 40% improvement in assessing infrastructure conditions, thanks to the system's advanced sensor and imaging technologies.
This leap in efficiency not only saves time and resources, but also strengthens system reliability by proactively detecting issues before they impact service.
What Is ARIIS and How It Works
ARIIS is equipped with a suite of advanced technologies designed to function autonomously and without disrupting regular metro operations. These include:
LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors: to measure distances with laser precision and create 3D maps of the rail environment.
High-resolution lasers: for scanning surface integrity of rails and other components.
3D cameras: that offer comprehensive imaging of track infrastructure.
This system navigates the tracks and continuously collects data on rail alignment, wear, vibrations, and structural anomalies.

Real estate eyes growth corridor in North Chennai

Chennai: Once seen as the gritty industrial edge of the city, North Chennai is turning into one of the hottest new addresses in real estate, especially plotted development. Areas such as Red Hills, Puzhal, and Karanodai are fast turning into favourite hubs for plotted development due to various development projects planned by the govt. According to developers, North Chennai is what Anna Nagar was in the 1970s or Besant Nagar in the 1980s. From key connectivity upgrades such as Chennai Outer Ring Road (ORR) to the expansion of social infrastructure such as metro, schools, colleges and healthcare facilities, the region is rapidly evolving into a vibrant residential zone. "Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru lead in plotted development when compared to the rest of India. These plots are created in all futuristic locations, where the govt has planned future development projects and where investments can grow," said Ranjeeth Rathod, executive committee member, Credai-Chennai. G Square's latest land acquisition aligns with this momentum. The firm has acquired a total 62.38 acres of land to develop 1,091 ready-to-construct villa plots spread across Red Hills, Puzhal, and Karanodai. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cardiologists: 1 Teaspoon of This Before Bed Melts Belly Fat Like Crazy Hollywood News | USA Click Here Undo The total investment across these projects stands at 230 crores. "The new projects are strategically located with excellent access to major transit corridors, prominent educational institutions, healthcare hubs and other developments like Madhavaram Mofussil Bus Terminus (MMBT), fintech city at Madhavaram, Chennai Peripheral Ring Road," said Bala Ramajeyam, managing director, G Square Realtors Private Limited. Traditionally, South Chennai — especially along the GST corridor — has been the preferred choice for homebuyers, thanks to its established infrastructure and proximity to industries, said Abdul Rahman, national south wing secretary, CREDAI. "But North Chennai is poised to emerge as an interesting prospect. The key question buyers ask is how long it will take for property values to appreciate. If the govt promotes high-paying, white-collar employment opportunities in the region, it will significantly boost investor confidence and drive greater demand for housing in the years ahead. " Developers say homebuyers now crave personalized living spaces with the convenience of community features. "Most of the buyers are women, govt employees association, group of teachers and even IT employees. Nearly 90 per cent of the buyers select plots that are 1,200 sqft," added Ranjeeth Rathod.

Konkan Rail Corporation Ltd set to float tender for Vizhinjam tunnel rail connectivity in July

Thiruvananthapuram: The long-awaited tunnel rail connection project between Balaramapuram railway station and Vizhinjam International Seaport is set to move ahead this July. The Konkan Rail Corporation Ltd (KRCL) is preparing to float a tender for detailed design and construction. According to sources within KRCL, tender issuance is expected once the draft document receives final clearance from Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd (VISL), the state-owned port authority overseeing the project. The project will be executed under an engineering, procurement & construction (EPC) model. Once the tender opens, it is expected to follow a three-month window to select the contractor. The winning bidder will then have another three months to complete the final design. Construction is scheduled to begin in Jan 2026, said an official familiar with the plan. Ahead of this, land acquisition efforts are progressing. At Balaramapuram end, VISL is set to take possession of acquired land by the end of July. Meanwhile, on Vizhinjam side land acquisition is pending, as the authorities need to conduct a crucial meeting involving local fishermen and church representatives, who have expressed concerns about the tunnel's construction. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Pelajari Undo An official close to the project said, "We will initiate talks with fishermen's representatives soon to address their concerns and ensure all community apprehensions are resolved before possession of land." At present, 19 families reside in the affected area at Vizhinjam. The compensation of Rs 190 crore delivered by VISL is being dispersed by the district administration to landowners. Further disbursements are underway following the formal takeover of the site. In Balaramapuram, the existing station will be relocated approximately 600m south to make way for a container yard and approach tracks linking to the tunnel. Meanwhile, the VISL is planning to set up a container rail terminal (CRT) near Neyyattinkara railway station. However, nothing has been finalised yet, and discussions are ongoing between the govt and Southern Railways. The railway tunnel is a key component of state govt's efforts to boost connectivity to the Vizhinjam deep-water port. Spanning 10.7km, of which 9.4km will run underground, the tunnel will enable direct freight rail access between the port and the railway network. This alignment has been chosen to minimise land acquisition, environmental disruption, and community displacement. The tunnel will be constructed using the new Austrian tunnelling method (NATM), with a depth ranging from 25 to 30m below ground level. Freight trains are expected to complete the passage through the tunnel in about 36 minutes, at speeds ranging from 15 to 30 km/h. The state cabinet granted administrative approval for the project in March 2025, with the revised estimated cost pegged at Rs 1,482.92 crore. Environmental clearance for the project was granted in July 2024. Once completed, the tunnel will be one of the longest railway tunnels in India and is expected to significantly improve cargo handling efficiency at Vizhinjam port. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.

Canada kicks out Chinese surveillance giant Hikvision over national security threat

The Canadian government has ordered Chinese surveillance technology company Hikvision to shut down its Canadian operations, citing national security concerns. Industry Minister Mélanie Joly announced the decision late Friday(June 27), stating the move follows a formal national security review under the Investment Canada Act. The review involved intelligence and security assessments provided by Canada's national agencies. "The government has determined that Hikvision Canada Inc.'s continued operations in Canada would be injurious to Canada's national security," Joly wrote in a post on X. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy the Dip: Top 5 Dividend Stocks with Growth Potential Seeking Alpha Read Now Undo Hikvision, formally known as Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co., Ltd., is one of the world's largest manufacturers of surveillance cameras and related equipment. The company has operated in Canada through a subsidiary since 2014. The decision comes amid growing international scrutiny of Hikvision. The US, UK, and Australia have previously placed sanctions or restrictions on the company over allegations that its technology was used in the surveillance of Uyghur Muslims in China's Xinjiang region, allegations Beijing has denied. Major retailers such as Best Buy and Home Depot stopped selling Hikvision products as early as 2021. Live Events While Canadian officials did not disclose the specific threat that triggered this review, the Investment Canada Act allows Ottawa to investigate and block foreign investments that pose potential risks to national security. In a statement issued Saturday, Hikvision said it 'strongly disagrees' with the government's decision. 'We believe it lacks a factual basis, procedural fairness, and transparency,' the company said. 'Instead of evaluating our technology on its cybersecurity merits, the decision appears to be driven by the parent company's country of origin, reflecting broader geopolitical tensions and an unjustified bias against Chinese companies.' Hikvision added that it fully cooperated with Canadian authorities and submitted all requested documentation. Along with the shutdown order, Minister Joly said the federal government will ensure that departments, agencies, and Crown corporations do not purchase or use Hikvision equipment moving forward. She also announced a review of government buildings to identify and phase out any legacy Hikvision devices. 'I strongly urge Canadians to take note of this decision and make their own decisions accordingly,' Joly added. The Chinese Embassy in Ottawa has not yet commented on the decision.
