Rayo Vallecano wins 1-0 at Las Palmas to leave home side deep in relegation trouble
Álvaro García smashed the winner in off the underside of the bar 20 minutes into the second half to leave Las Palmas third from bottom with 32 points, three points behind Alaves immediately above.
Leganes is 19th in the 20-team top tier with 31 points. Both Leganes and Alaves have a game in hand.
Valladolid has already been relegated and two more teams will join it.
'Right now, it's frustrating,' Las Palmas midfielder Alberto Moleiro told broadcaster DAZN. 'We always give it our all, and we have to keep going. There are three (games) left and we're not going to give up.'
The win lifted Rayo into seventh and the Europa League places. It sits a point above Celta Vigo and three points clear of Osasuna and Mallorca, all of whom have a game in hand.

One-match ban leaves England's Packer available for Women's Rugby World Cup opener
LONDON (AP) — Flanker Marlie Packer will be available for England's opening match in the Women's Rugby World Cup after she received a one-match ban on Sunday. Stand-in captain Packer was sent off on Saturday during a 97-7 win over Spain in a World Cup warmup in Leicester. In a ruck clearout, her shoulder targeted and bent the leg of fullback Claudia Pena. Packer didn't accept it was a red card offense at her disciplinary hearing but the panel disagreed and considered the foul play reckless. She will miss England's final warmup against France next Saturday. England opens the World Cup against the United States on Aug. 22 in Sunderland. ___ AP rugby:

Stephanie Kyriacou already made an ace at the Women's British. Then she assisted on another
PORTHCAWL, Wales (AP) — Stephanie Kyriacou played a role in a pair of aces at the Women's British Open this week. She made the first hole-in-one of the championship at Royal Porthcawl. And on Sunday, she assisted on the other. Mimi Rhodes of England made a hole-in-one on the par-3 fifth hole when her tee shot glanced off the golf ball belonging to Kyriacou and caromed right into the cup in the final round. Her shot would have rolled by if not for Kyriacou's golf ball being there. Kyriacou had hit first and nearly made her second ace until the ball rolled just left of the hole, inches away. Kyriacou made a hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth in the second round on Friday. Thursdays Keep up to date on sports with Mike McIntyre's weekly newsletter. ___ AP golf:

Ademola Lookman requests transfer from Atalanta citing broken promises and poor treatment
BERGAMO, Italy (AP) — Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has handed the club a formal transfer request, the player said Sunday. Lookman made the announcement with a statement posted on Instagram. The 27-year-old said the request was made 'after many months of broken promises and what I feel has been poor treatment towards me as both a human being and as a professional footballer. 'Sadly I feel I have no choice but to speak out for what I believe is right and I feel that enough is enough,' he said. He said in the statement that it had already been decided that it was the 'right time' for him 'to move on and experience a new adventure.' He said he and the club ownership had been 'in agreement' that now was the right time for a transfer, and that the club agreed to let him leave if a fair offer was made. He said an offer did arrive but now the club was not sticking to its end of the agreement. 'Despite now receiving an offer in alignment to what I believe had been discussed, sadly the club are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand,' he said. Lookman did not give other details about the offer. ___ AP soccer:
