DOHA: Qatar Chamber has taken part in the General Assembly meeting of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Chamber was represented by Board Member, President of the Qatar Association for Freight Forwarding and Logistics (QAFL) and Vice Chair of the Region Africa and Middle East (RAME) for the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) Eng Ali bin Abdullatif Al Misned.
The meeting featured a roundtable discussion on road transport and competitiveness and covered key agenda items, including the speech by IRU President Radu Dinescu, the General Assembly and financial reports, and a review of the IRU Award for Top Road Transport Managers 2025.
In statements, Al Misned emphasized that such meetings serve as a strategic international platform for enhancing cooperation and the exchange of expertise in the fields of transport and logistics. He noted that they open broader avenues for member countries to achieve integration and competitiveness across land and logistics supply chains.
"Our participation in this important event reflects Qatar's commitment to reinforcing its position as an integrated logistics hub and advancing infrastructure development to facilitate regional and international land trade," he stated.
He underscored the rapid changes underway in the global road transport sector, which call for deeper cooperation and the adoption of smart, sustainable solutions.
He also highlighted Qatar Chamber's dedication to playing an active role in shaping the future of transportation through its contributions to the IRU.
Al Misned further highlighted the importance of digital transformation and the need to enhance the competitiveness of the transportation sector.
He referred to the initiatives outlined in the IRU's collective call to action titled "Driving Competitiveness, A Collective Call to Action," which emphasizes innovation, collaboration, and policy alignment to strengthen global transport systems.
He also underscored the importance of supporting the IRU's efforts in training and talent development, particularly through initiatives such as the IRU Award for Top Road Transport Managers 2025.
He affirmed that investing in human capital remains a cornerstone for achieving sustainable development in the transport and logistics sector.

The visiting delegation was led by the Al Ahsa Chamber Chairman Mohamed bin Abdulaziz Al Afaleq and included vice-chairmen, board members, and the secretary-general. The delegation was received at Qatar Chamber headquarters by QC Second Vice-Chairman Rashid bin Hamad Al Athba along with several QC board members and seniorofficials. The high-level meeting focused on exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation between the two chambers, with the objective of fostering closer ties between the private sectors of Qatar and Saudi Arabia particularly in the Al-Ahsa region, known for its economic potential and vibrant businessenvironment. In his opening remarks, Rashid Al Athba underlined the Qatar Chamber's firm commitment to enhancing collaboration with its Saudi counterpart. He stressed the need to forge strong partnerships between Qatari and Saudi business communities, identifying investment opportunities and encouraging the establishment of joint ventures that can boost bilateral trade and foster sustainable economicdevelopment. Highlighting the growing economic and trade relationship between the two countries, Al Athba noted the remarkable 65 percent increase in bilateral trade, which surged from QR2.97 billion in 2023 to QR4.88 billion in 2024. He attributed this impressive growth to the forward-looking visions and strategic directives of the leaderships in both nations. 'The robust ties between Qatar and Saudi Arabia are built on mutual respect, shared history, and a common vision for economic prosperity. The private sector plays a vital role in realising the aspirations outlined in our respective National Vision 2030 frameworks,' Al Athba said. He encouraged companies from both countries to explore untapped opportunities in key sectors such as manufacturing, food security, logistics, tourism, and technology — all of which offer value-added prospects and long-term growth. Al Athba also reaffirmed Qatar Chamber's support for any initiative that seeks to promote cross-border collaboration and investment flows, expressing optimism about intensifying coordination with the Al Ahsa Chamber through joint programmes, exchange visits, and forums. Speaking at the meeting, Mohamed Al Afaleq, emphasised the historic and fraternal relations between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, asserting that stronger private sector cooperation is pivotal for achieving economic integration. He reiterated the Al Ahsa Chamber's readiness to work hand-in-hand with Qatar Chamber to foster stronger business ties, facilitate bilateral trade, and promote investments in both regions. Al Afaleq also lauded the efforts of the Qatari-Saudi Joint Business Council for its instrumental role in nurturing a conducive environment for private sector engagement. In a proactive gesture, Al Afaleq extended an invitation to the Qatar Chamber to lead a delegation of Qatari entrepreneurs and investors to Al Ahsa. The proposed visit aims to showcase the promising investment opportunities available in Al Ahsa Oasis — a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most dynamic economic zones in eastern Saudi Arabia. As part of the meeting's agenda, attendees were presented with a detailed overview of Qatar's business landscape, investment climate, and strategic sectors open to foreign investors. The presentation was followed by bilateral business-to-business (B2B) sessions, allowing Qatari and Saudi businessmen to explore potential synergies, discuss trade alliances, and lay the groundwork for future partnerships. Both chambers agreed on the importance of continuous dialogue and joint action to capitalize on emerging opportunities and reinforce the role of the private sector in shaping the future of Qatari-Saudi economic relations. The meeting concluded on a high note with mutual agreement to enhance institutional collaboration, co-organize business forums, and strengthen the framework for commercial cooperation in alignment with the evolving economic goals of both nations.

LONDON: Chairman of Qatar Chamber (QC) and First Vice-President of the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani has emphasized the depth of relations between the Arab world and the UK, describing them as historic and robust, encompassing all aspects and sectors, especially in the fields of economy and mutual investment. On the sidelines of QC's participation in the 4th Arab British Economic Summit, held in London, UK, on Monday, Sheikh Khalifa praised the distinguished relations between Qatar and the UK, noting that Qatari investments in Britain play a significant role in the British economy. The QC Chairman further indicated that the UK is an important trading partner for Qatar, with the volume of trade exchange reaching QR7.5 billion in 2024, of which QR6.1 billion were Qatari exports to Britain, mostly petroleum gases and gaseous hydrocarbons. Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Chamber participated in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), held in St. Petersburg, Russia, from June 18 to 21. Qatar Chamber was represented at the event by Eng. Ali bin Abdullatif Al-Misnad, Board Member of Qatar Chamber and Chairman of the Qatari side of the Qatari-Russian Joint Business Council. On the sidelines of the forum, Al-Misnad held several meetings with Russian business leaders and economic officials to discuss trade and economic cooperation between the two friendly countries and explore ways to strengthen these ties. The discussions also highlighted the pivotal role played by the Qatari-Russian Joint Business Council in fostering business relations, enhancing communication between Qatari and Russian entrepreneurs, and promoting mutual partnerships and investment opportunities in both countries.
