Kareena Kapoor Says Her Bond With Sanjay Leela Bhansali Is ‘Love And War': 'We Are Always Fluctuating'
Kareena Kapoor opens up about her complex bond with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, calling it 'love and war.' Here's what she told Vicky Kaushal in an interview.
Kareena Kapoor Khan has always worn her heart on her sleeve, and in a recent interview, she delivered another gem that's now making waves across Bollywood circles. While speaking with actor Vicky Kaushal for The Hollywood Reporter, Kareena opened up about her long and layered relationship with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali—describing it in one pithy, poetic line: 'It is love and war between him and I."
The moment came during a conversation about Vicky's upcoming film Love & War, directed by Bhansali and co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. As Vicky spoke about his experience working with the auteur, Kareena interjected with a smile and said, 'I am waiting to see you in the Bhansali film. Of course, he is the Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and Love and War is actually me and Sanjay. You can tell him that. He will understand. We have love and war."
Caught off-guard, Vicky chuckled and asked, 'What is it now? Love or war?" Kareena responded with a laugh, 'We are always fluctuating."
Her remark not only hinted at an emotional push-and-pull but also revived conversations about the duo's professional history—marked by anticipation, creative disagreements, and a series of near-collaborations that never fully came to fruition.
Kareena was initially considered for the role of Paro in Bhansali's Devdas—a part that eventually went to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Years later, she was again linked to Bhansali's Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, but exited the project before filming began. Despite the missed opportunities, both have maintained a quiet admiration for each other's craft, albeit from a distance.
Bhansali, known for his opulent storytelling and emotional depth, is now returning to the romance genre with Love & War. The film is slated for a 2026 release and marks his first major theatrical venture since the Netflix series Heeramandi. With a lead cast featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, the film is poised to be another cinematic epic, steeped in themes of passion, sacrifice, and emotional tumult.

(Also Read: Pushpa girls Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Sreeleela put rift rumours to rest with joint appearance. Watch) Samantha Ruth Prabhu is tired of people criticising her and her body. Samantha took to her Instagram stories on Saturday to post a video of her doing pullups during her workout. Sharing it, she challenged people to do at least three pullups before criticising her, her body or her health. She wrote, 'Here's the deal. You don't get to call me skinny, sickly or any of that crap unless you can do 3 of these first. If you can't… Then read between the frikkin lines…' Samantha Ruth Prabhu challenged naysayers to perform pullups. This is not the first time Samantha has had to respond to comments on her weight or looks. In November last year, the actor-entrepreneur responded to a social media post asking her to gain weight and 'bulk up'. She wrote, 'If you guys must know, I am on a strict anti-inflammatory diet which is required for my condition, which prevents me from putting on weight, keeps in a certain weight bracket and keeps me in a sweet spot with my condition (myositis).' She ended the note by asking people to stop judging and reminding them it's 2024. Recent work Samantha took a break from filming due to a flare-up of her myositis. In 2021, she divorced from Naga Chaitanya and was public about her disorder in 2022. Films she had shot for by then – Shaakunthalam Yashoda – were released in 2022 and 2023. In 2024, she starred in Shiva Nirvana's romantic drama Kushi with Vijay Deverakonda. She also acted in Raj & DK's Prime Video web series, Citadel: Honey Bunny. Samantha recently turned producer with Subham. She will soon star in Maa Inti Bangaram, which she's also producing and Rakt Brahmand: The Bloody Kingdom for Netflix.

Jackie Shroff recalls seeing Shah Rukh Khan's ‘akelapan' during Devdas, King Uncle: ‘Akele kone mein baitha…'
Bollywood actors Jackie Shroff and Shah Rukh Khan are among the few outsiders who made it big in the industry. The two have also worked together in several hits like Happy New Year, Devdas and more. In an interview with Vickey Lalwani, Jackie spoke about how he saw Shah Rukh being aloof during the shoot of King Uncle. He further talked about being lonely at the top. Jackie Shroff opens up on working with Shah Rukh Khan in Devdas and King Uncle. When asked about what he observed in Shah Rukh's growth from King Uncle to Devdas, Jackie recalled SRK playing his younger brother in King Uncle and said, "Akelapan. Har actor ko ek lonely feel hona chahiye, mere ko bola tha ye kisi ne. So I saw him sitting out there, on his own. He was playing my younger brother. And he was respectful, focused on his work, he was charismatic, he was charming. But aloof. Like I was aloof, he also aloof. I liked those vibes (Loneliness. Every actor should experience a sense of loneliness, someone once told me that. I saw him sitting there alone. He was playing my younger brother. He was respectful, focused, charismatic, but aloof. Just like I was aloof, he was too. I liked that vibe)." He then spoke about working with him on Devdas and said, "Devdas se pehle bhi humne kayi films ki. One 2 Ka Four kiya aur ek-do films aur. Par Devdas mein normal tha. Mere liye toh mera bhai tha, chhota bhai jo maine dekha. Wohi ladka jo maine dekha tha ki akele kone mein baitha hai. Role bhi waisa tha Devdas ka, aur main jaisa hoon waisa hi tha uske saath (We had done several films before Devdas, One 2 Ka Four and a couple of others. But on Devdas, he was the same. For me, he was still my younger brother. The same boy I had once seen sitting quietly in a corner. Even the role of Devdas suited that vibe. And I was the same with him as I always had been)," admiting that it's lonely at top. Shah Rukh and Jackie have worked together in several films like Trimurti, King Uncle, One 2 Ka 4, Devdas and Happy New Year, among others. If reports are to be believed, Jackie and SRK are all set to work together again in Siddharth Anand's directorial, King.
