Child rescued after drifting far from shore on inflatable in Lake Huron

A child is safe after drifting hundreds of metres from shore on an inflatable in Lake Huron Monday afternoon, prompting a swift rescue response from emergency crews.
Huron County OPP said they were alerted to a child who had been playing on an inflatable ring near Black's Point Beach, south of Goderich, Ont., and was carried out into open water just after noon.
The OPP's Marine Unit, the Canadian Coast Guard in Goderich, and Huron County paramedics responded quickly. The child was found about 500 to 700 metres from shore and brought safely back to land.
Police said the child was wearing a life jacket and was in good health.
In a statement, the OPP urged the public to remain vigilant when spending time near the water.
"Please pay attention to changing conditions, including high winds, waves, and undercurrent, each of which can create dangerous and potentially life-threatening situations," the release said.

Twister touched down near Lucan on Monday, confirms Northern Tornadoes Project
The Northern Tornadoes Project has confirmed a small tornado touched down Monday near Lucan, Ont. Environment Canada issued a warning around 3:50 p.m. for the areas of Stratford, Mitchell, southern Perth County and London. The agency said its meteorologists had been tracking a severe thunderstorm with the potential to produce a twister. The warning was called off less than 10 minutes later. While no injuries were reported, the sudden storm left behind some minor damage to trees and crops. (Source: Northern Tornadoes Project) 'I saw the funnel and I heard it,' Brenda Hawkins told CTV News London. 'All the debris, all the old tins, everything was flying in the air.' Dr. David Sills, NTP's director, said he reviewed videos of the funnel cloud and did an initial survey at Airport Drive and Saintsbury Line. He has given the tornado a preliminary EF0 rating. Sills said a full ground and drone survey will be conducted Tuesday to determine the twister's path and any additional damage it caused.
