Hill staffer appearing on ‘Survivor'
Rep. Jan Schakowsky's (D-Ill.) communication director, Alex Moore, appeared in the season's promotional video and identified himself as a Hill staffer.
'I work on Capitol Hill and I think that has prepared me for Survivor because one of my favorite pastimes is kissing butt,' Moore said in the video, reported by Entertainment Weekly.
The host of the show, Jeff Probst, described the cast as 'very likable and quirky' in an interview with EW.
'Every season of Survivor is unique, and that is definitely the case for Survivor 49,' Probst told EW. 'This is a very likable and quirky group of players that are going to encounter a Fijian summer so sweltering it feels like the jungle is breathing on you.'
Schakowsky recently announced that she would not seek reelection.

Colbert fails to ask Harris about Biden decline, avoids her involvement in Trump's '60 Minutes' lawsuit
Outgoing CBS "The Late Show" host Stephen Colbert failed to address the hottest topics with former Vice President Kamala Harris during his fawning interview on Thursday. Colbert rolled out the red carpet for Harris, who granted him her first interview since leaving office and took the opportunity to plug her forthcoming book "107 Days" about her failed presidential bid. However, Colbert avoided asking Harris anything about the controversy surrounding her ex-boss, former President Joe Biden, and the growing questions about his cognitive decline while in office. Multiple Biden aides, including his White House physician Kevin O'Connor, pleaded the Fifth when brought before Congress and several tell-all books have shed light on the former president's difficulty behind the scenes. Notably, Colbert emceed a star-studded fundraiser for Biden in March 2024. The closest Colbert got to broaching the subject was a couple of softball questions about Harris' experience after Biden's disastrous presidential debate in June 2024 and the moment he ended his reelection bid weeks later. Another giant elephant in the room was her involvement in President Donald Trump's "election interference" lawsuit against CBS News and parent company Paramount, which cascaded to a series of events that liberal critics say connect Paramount's settlement and its forthcoming merger with Skydance Media with the cancellation of "The Late Show." Colbert has been outspoken with his criticism of his corporate bosses. The interview Harris gave to "60 Minutes" last October was at the center of Trump's lawsuit, which accused CBS News of deceptively editing her comments to aid her campaign. Critics at the time pointed out that her "word salad" response to a question about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu aired in a preview clip on "Face the Nation," while a more concise answer aired during the "60 Minutes" primetime special the following night. Raw transcripts released by the FCC after it ordered CBS News to hand them over earlier this year revealed that the first portion of her response aired in the preview clip, while the latter part of that same response aired in primetime. Both Colbert and Harris seemed to tiptoe around the CBS drama. At the top of the interview, after he pointed out that Harris "looked rested," Colbert joked he'll get "plenty of rest in June," which is the month after "The Late Show" will officially be off the air in 2026. Harris later called out the "capitulation" that has taken place since Trump took office, though not mentioning Paramount by name. There was very little substance throughout the roughly 30-minute interview as Harris repeatedly either dodged various questions or teased that the answers would be in her book. One question Harris refused to answer was who she thought was currently leading the Democratic Party. "I think there are a lot of – I'm not going to go through names because then I'm going to leave somebody out and then I'm going to hear about it," Harris told Colbert. "But let me say this. I think it is a mistake for us who want us to figure out how to get out and through this and get out of it to put it on the shoulders of any one person. It's really on all of our shoulders. It really is."

‘My Oxford Year' Ending, Explained
Warning: The following contains spoilers for My Oxford Year. My Oxford Year has officially arrived on Netflix. Based on Julia Whelan's novel of the same time, the film follows ambitious American student Anna (played by Sofia Carson) on her year at Oxford University, where she meets and ends up falling in love with student teacher Jamie (Corey Mylchreest), despite them both agreeing to keep things casual. Anna later learns that Jamie is living with a rare, terminal form of cancer and has chosen to forgo further treatment in order to make the most of the time he has remaining, which is why he's been so hesitant to commit. While the film largely follows Whelan's novel, the two differ significantly in their conclusions. So, what exactly happens to Jamie? Read on for the full ending explained. In the novel, Jamie receives a temporary reprieve following a case of pneumonia and participation in a clinical trial, giving him the chance to fulfill his vow to journey across Europe with Anna, who is known as Ella in the book. The film takes a more sombre turn as Jamie's health begins to decline. Near the end, Anna wakes to find him unconscious beside her in bed. She rushes him to the hospital, where she stays faithfully by his side as he approaches the end of his life. After his passing, she imagines him accompanying her on her European travels—until those visions gradually dissolve, leaving her to face the journey on her own. She follows through on the adventures she and Jamie once dreamed of sharing, immersing herself in the world they had longed to explore together. It's a powerful turning point that reflects the impact Jamie had on her life—teaching her to release her fears, stop overthinking the future, and embrace the present more fully. The story comes full circle in the closing scene, set once again in the familiar Oxford classroom where Anna once sat as Jamie's student. A new group of students fills the room as Anna steps in, now standing at the front as their lecturer. Like Jamie before her, Anna invites her students to have some cake and says: 'Poetry isn't just studied—it's experienced. Let it move through you. Let it transform you.' By the end of the movie, Jamie is most definitely dead, but that's not to say the film isn't without a silver lining for Anna. 'Even though it's clear Anna's alone at the end. We left it a little bit ambiguous because we wanted the film to end with hope and with light,' Sofia explained in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. As to why the film opted for a different ending to the book, Corey told EW: 'It's better like that. It's more powerful. That is the direction that the book is heading in, and it would feel like hypocrisy for Jamie to speak all these things and for Anna to be understanding that philosophy of life [and not end there].' He continued: 'The impressive thing is that Jamie believes all of these things—forever is composed of nows—and he doesn't have that many nows left. So, what's really amazing is that he's doing all of this stuff and believes all these things with really not that much time left. If that wasn't true, it would feel like we're undervaluing his beliefs.' My Oxford Year is available to stream on Netflix.
