This comes after Salt Lake Tribune's Kevin Reynolds reported that Retzlaff was facing a seven-game suspension for violating BYU's Honor Code tied to a civil lawsuit.
An attorney representing Retzlaff denied allegations that his client sexually assaulted a woman in 2023.
In response to a lawsuit in the Third Judicial District Court in Utah, Retzlaff's lawyer issued a statement via a court filing on Friday. "Mr. Retzlaff specifically and categorically denies each and every and all allegations that he bit, raped or strangled [the woman], which are ridiculous and bizarre allegations, all of which are false and untrue."
After the lawsuit was filed, BYU issued a statement saying, "The university takes any allegation very seriously, following all processes and guidelines mandated by Title IX." However, they didn't get into specifics on the situation. "Due to federal and university privacy laws and practices for students, the university will not be able to provide additional comment."

Retzlaff enters his senior season after throwing for nearly 3,000 years and 20 touchdowns to 12 interceptions last year. BYU was one win away from their first Big 12 championship appearance.

Sitake and offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick must prepare to move forward without Retzlaff. McCae Hillstead might be the next QB on the depth chart. The transfer from Utah State threw for 399 yards and four touchdowns during his freshman season. Treyson Bourguet and Bear Bachmeier will also compete for the starting job.
BYU opens the 2025 football season on Saturday, August 30 against Portland State.

Jake Retzlaff likely to transfer, shaking up Big 12 and Colorado's matchup with BYU
Some big news surfaced Sunday evening centered around one of the Big 12 conference's expected top contenders, the BYU Cougars. The Cougars' starting quarterback, Jake Retzlaff, could be on the move shortly before the start of the 2025 football season. The news stems from a Salt Lake City Tribune report that Retzlaff is anticipating a seven-game suspension for violating the school's honor code after a civil lawsuit filed in May accused Retzlaff of sexual assault in November 2023. The hefty suspension the experienced quarterback would face if he were to stay at BYU has prompted Retzlaff to look for other opportunities. According to a Tribune source, the quarterback has told coaches and teammates that "he is likely to leave the program." ESPN's Pete Thamel followed up on that report with one of his own, stating that Retzlaff "plans to transfer." Retzlaff became BYU's starter last season and was a primary reason the Cougars went 11-2 overall, including an Alamo Bowl victory over the Colorado Buffaloes. He threw for 2,947 yards and 20 touchdowns while also running for 417 yards and six scores. The potential absence of Retzlaff, one of the Big 12's better quarterbacks, would undoubtedly reshape the conference landscape heading into the 2025 season. Colorado hosts BYU on Sept. 27 for a Week 5 matchup in Boulder that now comes with a significant question mark regarding their projected starting quarterback. Memphis Police Department officer shoots, kills man accused of gas station stabbing
A Memphis police officer shot and killed a man who allegedly stabbed someone at a gas station, the Memphis Police Department confirmed June 23. Early on June 23, an officer responded to a call at a gas station at 4260 Winchester Rd., where a man had been stabbed. The officer found a man armed with 'an edged weapon on scene,' a statement from MPD said. 'As the officer attempted to arrest the suspect, the man attempted to stab the officer,' the statement said. 'The officer discharged his weapon, striking the subject. The officer immediately rendered aid and requested assistance from the Memphis Fire Department.' Kim Wheeler, a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation public affairs officer, said during a press conference that the man was initially standing outside the building before retreating inside. When the officer followed the man inside, the individual "refused to surrender," and advanced on the officer with a screw driver. The officer was struck by the screw driver in his protective vest, and the officer fired his weapon in response. The man was taken to the hospital and later died. Wheeler said the investigation is ongoing and could not comment on the relationship between the suspect and the other man inside the gas station who was stabbed. The other man who was stabbed was released from the hospital after being treated for non-critical injuries. This is a developing story and will be updated.
