Snakes, ladders & RM500K in prizes — Suria KLCC's Golden Ticket campaign returns

The Sun15-05-2025
SHOPPERS at Suria KLCC stand a chance to win up to RM10,000 daily as the mall's highly anticipated Golden Ticket campaign returns for its sixth and most extravagant edition yet.
Running from May 9 to 25, the campaign transforms Suria KLCC's Centre Court into a neon-lit, life-sized snakes and ladders playground. With over RM500,000 in e-vouchers to be won, shoppers spending RM1,500 in two receipts at specialty stores can roll a giant dice and win one of four ticket tiers:
Golden Ticket – RM10,000
Ruby Ticket – RM5,000
Emerald Ticket – RM100
Purple Ticket – RM50
Each day, one lucky shopper will uncover the Golden Ticket to much fanfare — flashing neon lights, celebratory music, and a photo op on the Wall of Winners. The festive atmosphere is further amplified by nostalgic arcade booths, a gift-filled claw machine, and weekend treats like candy floss and neon glow sticks.
'This year's lucky draw is truly next level — we've doubled the excitement, making sure that everyone who joins leaves with a smile,' said Francis Tan, Executive Director and CEO of Suria KLCC Sdn Bhd.
The excitement also extends online with more prizes available via Suria KLCC's social media platforms.
The fun doesn't stop in Kuala Lumpur.
Both Alamanda Shopping Centre in Putrajaya and Mesra Mall in Terengganu are also running their own editions of the Golden Ticket campaign:
Alamanda Putrajaya (May 23 – June 8): Shoppers who spend RM500 can roll a dice to win vouchers up to RM1,000.
Featuring a whimsical forest theme, 50 prizes are given out daily — with daily carryovers for unclaimed tickets adding to the thrill.
Mesra Mall, Terengganu (May 9 – 25): With a vibrant snakes and ladders setup, those who spend RM300 can win vouchers up to RM1,000.
A total of 51 prizes are up for grabs each day, ensuring every participant walks away a winner.

One for the young minds: Malaysians' bright stars show vibrant potential in creative talent and IP ecosystem competition

KUALA LUMPUR: The 'Biji Buddy Bash' design competition, jointly organized by local animation studio Hide & Seeds Production, DASEIN Academy of Art, and Malaysia's creative talent platform Rtist Malaysia, successfully concluded recently. A total of 18 young participants were awarded RM55,000 in prizes, showcasing Malaysia's vibrant potential in original intellectual property (IP) development. Co-organised by Hide & Seeds and DASEIN Academy of Art, the 'Golden Brush Award: Biji Mascot Design Competition' offered RM50,000 worth of scholarships to 11 outstanding participants. The champion of the competition was Jasmine Khoo Xiang Xin, who received a cash prize of RM12,000. The first runner-up, Chong Hui Qi, won RM8,000, while the second runner-up, Jaylene Lee Em Chyi, received RM6,000. In addition, eight consolation prize winners each received RM3,000. Meanwhile, the 'BIJI Buddy Bash: IP Character Poster Design Contest,' jointly organized by Hide & Seeds and Rtist Malaysia, awarded its grand prize to Intan Syahiraaisha Samsuddin. She received RM3,000 in cash, a certificate, a Biji plushie, and the opportunity for her character to appear in the final Biji animation, as well as a chance to join Hide & Seeds' production process. Four other winners – Lim Shi Jian, Isaac Choong Junn Liang, Edward Low Sew Yin, and Chin Suk Hui – each received RM500 in cash, a certificate, and a Biji plushie. Special Recognition awards went to Hayfa Azalea Fythullah and Ahmad Hasbullah Bin Ahmad Munir, who received Biji plushies and certificates for 'Youth Creator' and 'Fan Favorite' respectively. According to Hide & Seeds Director Kin Lek, the theme 'Biji' was inspired by the Dipterocarpus tree (Pokok Keruing), a tropical species indigenous to Malaysia, which covers 70% of the country's rainforests. Its seed, when ripe, spins like a helicopter seed as it falls – a powerful symbol of potential and renewal. 'With 'Biji,' we aim to empower the local creative community and provide fertile ground for nurturing original IP,' said Kin Lek. Supported by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the team upheld its social mission to give back to the community, encouraging self-discovery, collaboration, and community engagement, while contributing to long-term transformation in education, IP licensing, sustainability, and entertainment. 'We hope to attract more resources and investors to grow the 'Biji' brand into an internationally recognized Malaysian IP, like Taiwan's Bugcat Capoo or China's Doora Bear,' Kin Lek added. As one of the highlight events, the organisers hosted a creative summit titled 'Build Your IP Character,' featuring renowned artist Michael Chuah, who delivered a keynote on crafting emotional and impactful characters. JT Yean, co-founder of Weyrdworks Studio, spoke on 'How Creators Survive,' offering practical insight into sustaining a career in the fast-paced creative industry. 'I hope these sessions help participants understand how pioneers develop IPs and learn the art of balancing creativity and practicality,' Kin Lek concluded. For the record, this contest showcased the harmony between Biji and Malaysia's natural beauty and biodiversity. Judging criteria included creativity, artistic originality, and coloring quality. The first phase (April 14 – June 8, 2025) focused on coloring a 2D Biji mascot; the second phase (held June 14) challenged finalists to color a blank 3D model on-site under time constraints. As for the "BIJI Buddy Bash: IP Character Poster Design Contest," participants were asked to create a poster featuring their original IP character interacting with Biji or Kotak, envisioning a potential animated story world. The top 25 finalists submitted 5–10 minute videos explaining their characters, storylines, and creative ideas. Final judging was based on 70% jury evaluation and 30% public voting.

Kuching South Mayor, Dato Wee Hong Seng, announced this during the handover ceremony of Magnum's RM45,000 sponsorship at the MBKS building here today. 'The contribution is not only financial, but also a gesture of trust, shared value, and commitment to the community that both MBKS and Magnum have held dearly,' said Wee, expressing his appreciation to Magnum for its continuous support spanning more than three decades. 'The long-lasting donation is the friendship that links together and builds up to make sure that as a whole, the community will benefit from this sponsorship,' he added. He further announced that this year's festival will feature 320 food stalls, three beer stalls, and one dedicated drink stall. Among the main highlights is the Chinese Home-Cooked Delicacy Corner, showcasing traditional dishes prepared by Chinese dialect groups in Sarawak – Hainan, Chawan, Teochew, Hokkien, Hing Hwa, Foochow, Kwong Wai Siew, and Hakka. They will each take turns to showcase and sell their traditional dishes over a dedicated three-day period, he noted. 'These are not the commercial recipes; these are dishes that represent the stories, the tradition, and family memories. 'So it is our way of preserving our culture through food and ensuring our younger generation understands and appreciates the richness of the root,' he pointed out. The festival will also feature a 'Gastronomy Pavilion', a special section reflecting Kuching's status as a Unesco Creative City of Gastronomy. Sister cities from Zhenjiang and Quanzhou, China, will also participate, sharing their culinary arts and culture with festival-goers. Additionally, there will be a 'Bumiputera Corner', a space where the Malay, Dayak, and other indigenous communities can proudly present their traditional delicacies. Wee encouraged the public from all over Sarawak to come and experience the delicious food, lively atmosphere, performances, and support local businesses. 'Do come, because your support matters. By visiting the stores, you are supporting all the small businesses, encouraging cultural continuity, and helping to keep this community spirit alive and thriving. 'The success of this festival is not just measured in numbers, but in all the smiles that we are creating in Kuching, the stories that we share and the memories that we create together,' he said. Also present was ENE Sdn Bhd vice president and East Malaysia regional head Liew Kee Chuan. Kuching Food Festival 2025 MBKS Wee Hong Seng
