At a time when billions of connected objects are reshaping industries, Thales has achieved an essential security certification for its eSIM solution, reinforcing its leadership in trusted connectivity management for the Internet of Things (IoT).
The certification, granted by the GSMA under the eSIM Security Assurance (eSA) scheme, marks a significant milestone in enabling large-scale, secure, and efficient IoT deployments across industries including smart metering, healthcare, and automotive.
This positions Thales as a trusted partner capable of providing full protection against advanced cyber threats — delivering end-to-end security solutions, from chip to cloud, and ensuring compliance with emerging security standards (e.g., the EU Cyber Resilience Act).
With over 5.8 billion IoT cellular connections expected globally by 2030 (GSMA Intelligence), businesses and industries face growing pressure to deploy connected devices at scale — securely and efficiently. The SGP.32 IoT specification has been designed specifically to meet the unique needs of IoT devices by simplifying remote connectivity activation while maintaining high levels of trust. And more specifically, the GSMA eSA certification ensures that the eSIM product (hardware, firmware, OS, and cryptographic libraries) complies with strict security and functional requirements, recognised across the global mobile ecosystem.

Thales reinforces its leadership in eSIM and IoT connectivity with a 'ready to use' certified solution.
SGP.32 is a new standard that allows connected devices—like smartwatches, trackers, or medical sensors—to download and activate a mobile subscription directly, without needing a physical SIM card. Unlike before, these devices no longer require a smartphone or another device to help them connect to the mobile network. It also strengthens security by ensuring that the connection and credentials are protected from end to end, even during remote activation.
In other terms, obtaining this certification marks a key security milestone for Thales, as it serves as a globally recognized 'seal of trust' that helps IoT service providers, device makers and car manufacturers, select solutions that are secure, future-proof, and ready for rapid deployment. Indeed, this certification brings concrete benefits for ecosystem players: Operational efficiency : enables mass remote activation of eSIM-enabled IoT devices, reducing logistics, physical SIM handling, and field interventions.

User trust & privacy: builds confidence among end users by securing device identities and communication — essential for sensitive use cases like smart meters, medical devices, track-and-trace systems, security cameras or connected vehicles.
'In an IoT world that's growing fast and moving even faster, trust and simplicity are key. With this certification, Thales continues to pave the way for secure, large-scale deployments of connected devices that are easy to manage and future-ready. It's about removing friction, increasing security, and enabling innovation — at the speed the market demands,' commentedEva Rudin, VP Mobile Connectivity Solutions at Thales. 'With dozens of projects already underway with industrial and automotive players, we are confident that this move will further accelerate the adoption of eSIM technology among more than 100 of our customers — including mobile network operators, IoT service providers, automotive companies, and device manufacturers."

Chip company's stock jumps 43% after aggressive new strategy

Chip company's stock jumps 43% after aggressive new strategy originally appeared on TheStreet. Sequans Communications, a global leader in 5G and 4G internet-of-things (IOT), has successfully implemented a Bitcoin-focused treasury strategy, attracting $384 million through a combination of equity and debt offerings. Backing the move are more than 40 institutional investors, representing a significant turning point for the company in becoming another corporate name to join the list of companies and corporations embracing Bitcoin as a reserve asset. CEO Georges Karam confirmed the company plans to start purchasing Bitcoin right away, noting that Bitcoin's scarcity and lack of a centralized authority could help Sequans's financial resiliency and long-term value to its shareholders. He also stated that the company will continue to buy more Bitcoin, utilizing cash flows from its core business as well as new capital were over 139 million American Depository Shares (ADSs) and secured convertible debentures maturing in 2028 sold in this fundraising, plus common warrants at $1.40 per ADS, which could yield an additional $57.6 million if exercised in full. The proceeds will be used to purchase Bitcoin and meet governance requirements as specified in the offering. Sequans is partnering with Swan Bitcoin, a prominent institutional Bitcoin service, to provide execution and custody security. This is similar to MicroStrategy and Japan's Metaplanet using Bitcoin as a hedge against increasing sovereign debt and inflation. After the announcement, Sequans' stock (SQNS) climbed over 43% in 24 hours, peaking at $1.81 pre-market. By contrast, Bitcoin traded around $109,100.95, up 1.13% according to Kraken's price feeds. However, SQNS has seen a 43.75% decline in the year-to-date period. Siemens and Microsoft join forces to enhance IoT

Siemens Smart Infrastructure has partnered with tech giant Microsoft to improve access to Internet of Things (IoT) data for building management. The collaboration integrates Siemens' digital building platform, Building X, with Microsoft Azure IoT Operations enabled by Azure Arc. Building X, part of Siemens Xcelerator, is a digital platform designed to help customers digitalise, manage, and optimise building operations. Azure IoT Operations provides tools and infrastructure to connect edge devices and integrate data, allowing organisations to optimise operations and harness the potential of IoT environments. The interoperability between Building X and Azure IoT Operations will make IoT-based data more accessible for large enterprise customers in commercial buildings, data centres, and higher education facilities, according to Siemens. The solution enables automatic onboarding and monitoring of datapoints such as temperature, pressure, and indoor air quality, for assets such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, valves, and actuators. It also supports customers in developing in-house use cases, including energy monitoring and space optimisation. Siemens Smart Infrastructure Buildings CEO Susanne Seitz said: 'The improved data access will provide portfolio managers with granular visibility into critical metrics such as energy efficiency and consumption. 'With IoT data often being siloed, this level of transparency is a game-changer for an industry seeking to optimise building operations and meet sustainability targets.' Siemens highlighted that its hardware and software components can be integrated without reliance on a single vendor ecosystem. The collaboration leverages industry standards such as the World Wide Web Consortium, Web of Things for metadata and interface descriptions, and Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture for cloud data communication. Microsoft senior director and architect of corporate standards group Erich Barnstedt said: 'Siemens shares Microsoft's focus on interoperability and open IoT standards. This collaboration is a significant step forward in making IoT data more actionable.' The interoperability between Building X and Azure IoT Operations is set to be available from the second half of 2025. Recently, Microsoft announced another round of layoffs in recent months, affecting approximately 9,000 employees.
