Elle Fanning Said Fan Commentary Influenced Her Hunger Games Casting
When it was revealed this year that Elle Fanning would be playing Effie Trinket in the film adaptation of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the announcement was both incredibly exciting and not all that surprising. Sunrise on the Reaping is the second prequel book in Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games novel series, and is set 24 years before the events of the first book in the original trilogy. The book — which hit shelves in March 2025 — and its accompanying movie adaptation were announced back in June 2024, and fans had already locked in their ideal castings for the prequel's younger versions of beloved characters like Haymitch Abernathy, Plutarch Heavensbee, Caesar Flickerman, and, of course, Effie Trinket. For context, Effie features heavily in the original Hunger Games trilogy as the escort and advisor to the District 12 tributes. And in Sunrise on the Reaping, a younger Effie is a stylist for Haymitch, who is preparing to participate in the 50th Hunger Games as the District 12 tribute. If you're familiar with the Hunger Games, you'll know that Effie — who was portrayed in the OG movies by Elizabeth Banks — is quite the fashionista. So, when it came to casting a younger Effie for Sunrise on the Reaping, minds went straight to Elle, who fans think has always been 'giving Effie Trinket energy.' 'y'all have any idea that this fandom has been making young effie edits with elle fanning for YEARS??? and until months ago this was an impossible dream???' one X post in response to the announcement read.'Casting director deserves an Oscar alone for what he's done here,' added another fan, while someone else wrote: 'OH MY GOD ITS HAPPENING THE PROPHECY WE MADE IT GUYSSZBDJCJFNDJDJFN.''Elle fanning as Effie Trinket was the most accurate and universally accepted casting that has ever happened in recent years,' echoed someone else. And now, Elle has weighed in on the discourse surrounding her casting, revealing that the online campaigning from fans definitely influenced her landing the job. During a new interview with Josh Horowitz for MTV, Elle was asked about her 'perfect casting' in the upcoming project, to which she said: 'It was funny, because I think fans made this happen in a way. The studio said they were getting kind of hounded online, like, 'Elle needs to play Effie'...So they called.' And it's not just the fans who are pleased with Elle's casting; Elizabeth Banks is very much on board too. When Elle was announced as Effie, Elizabeth contacted her directly with celebratory flowers and told People: 'I'm super excited. I texted the producers as well, and I think she's perfect.' Speaking with MTV, Elle expressed how thrilled she is to be following in Elizabeth's footsteps. 'I'm a huge fan, and Effie has always been my favorite character,' she said. 'I think Elizabeth Banks is— she brought so much, even beyond the books, like, layers to that character. I love her, and I have [gotten] to talk to Elizabeth. We've texted, and she sent me flowers and said, 'May the odds be ever in your favor.'' The movie is due to begin shooting this summer and is currently set to hit theaters on November 20, 2026. Giving some behind-the-scenes insight, Elle said: 'I haven't started filming yet, but we're thinking [about it] and hopefully making the fans happy.' As you may have seen, Elle's participation in Sunrise on the Reaping isn't the only fan-casting for the movie that became a reality. You can read a breakdown of who's playing who in the upcoming movie adaptation here.

How Cynthia Rowley Spends a Perfect Weekend in Montauk
Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. 'When my daughter was born, I had a big house in East Hampton, and all I did was wash towels for friends who came to visit,' says Cynthia Rowley. 'So one day, I got in my car and drove to Montauk, looking for the smallest house for sale.' Twenty-five years later, the designer still calls the small seaside town home. 'There's nothing like the landscape and natural beauty in Montauk,' she says. 'And it's just far enough away that people don't always want to make the trek—which makes it feel really special. It's an escape.' If you do decide to make the drive, though, it's well worth it. Spend your days surfing, swimming, hiking—and truly unplugging. 'The best thing about being there is that we're just on the beach all day, every day,' Rowley adds. 'It's really about being in nature, connecting with it.' Below, her personal guide to the perfect weekend (way) out east. o Uber — Don't drink and drive! o Walk — You can walk along the beach almost anywhere in Montauk, from right in town to Ditch Plains. o Bike — Montauk is a long haul, especially if you only have 48 hours or so. But there's so much beauty to take in, and no better way to see it all. o Marram — Marram is amazing because it's right on the beach. It's kind of secluded, but we love that we get to host our annual Cynthia Rowley Surf Camp there. o Hero Beach Club — Also right by the ocean! o Airbnb — You really can't go wrong with an Airbnb. There are some smaller, more rustic options on the bay side that are cute and mellow. It's a great area for kids—no big waves, just calm water and the most beautiful sunsets. o Joni's — I love the Thai Me Up or the classic egg wrap and a smoothie. o The Surf Lodge — Order the lobster roll with fries. o Monte's at the Manor — Located in the Montauk Manor, which is really haunted (I'm serious). The food is so great though. o John's Drive-In — For the homemade ice cream. I usually do two scoops: Chocolate Oreo Fudge and Toasted Coconut. o Air & Speed — For surf stuff! o Cynthia Rowley — It's a special location—literally a beach shack turned into a store. My beautiful store manager, Maddie, looks amazing in the clothes and is almost always barefoot. Between the good music and the barefoot manager, it's way more laid-back than our other store! We even brought in sand in—the store is actually built right in it. And all summer long, we host an artisanal coffee pop-up. o Farmer's Daughter — Housed in the old White's Drug & Department Store, you'll find its antique clothing collection. o Surf Engstrom — Pick up a Cynthia Rowley wetsuit and go to Marram, where you can sign up for a surf lesson with my friend Leif at Surf Engstrom. One to two hours is good— then have lunch at Mostrador Marram on-site. It's excellent. o Montauk Point Lighthouse — For a scenic walk or hike, be sure to spray yourself for ticks first, then drive out to the Montauk Lighthouse and walk the trails along the ocean. You'll see sea lions sometimes—it's really beautiful. Don't miss the Lighthouse itself at the end, on the very tip of the island. That's why Montauk is called 'The End.' o Westlake Fish House — I recommend ending your night with some live music. There are always bands playing at Westlake Fish House. Montauket and Solé East are great choices too, depending on the vibe you're after.

Prince William took Princess Charlotte to watch the UEFA Women's EURO 2025 Final in Basel, Switzerland, on July 27, 2025. Kensington Palace and Crystal Pix/Why It Matters William is patron of the Football Association, English soccer's governing body, and has a long history of supporting both the England men's and women's teams. However, he usually takes Prince George rather than Charlotte, who is a regular at the Wimbledon tennis championship. This appears to be the first time William has taken Charlotte and not George to a soccer match, marking a milestone in their relationship. What to Know The TikTok video was posted with the message: "Princess Charlotte cheering on the lionesses tonight for the euro women's finalll 🥺🫶🏻." The clip began by showing some of Charlotte's messages of support in past finals, including in a black-and-white polka dot dress for the 2022 final of the Euro, which England won against Germany. The second clip, in a white stripy t-shirt, is from her message of support ahead of the 2023 Women's World Cup Final, which England lost to Spain. The edit then showed a series of photos from the Euro final on Sunday, which showed Charlotte put her head in her hands during a tense moment as well as some bonding moments with William. There are also pictures in the video of Charlotte meeting Princess Leonor, 19, and Infanta Sofia, 18, both of Spain. Elsewhere, Prince William posted a video that also showed him standing with his arm around Charlotte's shoulders as they watched the England team celebrating their win. This was the first time Charlotte traveled overseas to watch soccer and only her second live game, after she previously watched Aston Villa, William's favorite team, play Norwich in 2019. What People Are Saying William and Charlotte posted a joint message on X congratulating the England team: "What a game! @Lionesses, you are the champions of Europe and we couldn't be prouder of the whole team. Enjoy this moment @England. W & Charlotte." King Charles III posted a message of congratulations on X: "For more years than I care to remember, England fans have sung that famous chant 'football's coming home.' "As you return home with the trophy you won at Wembley three years ago, it is a source of great pride that, through sporting skill and awesome teamwork, the Lionesses have made those words ring true. Quoted by Reuters, England's captain, Leah Williamson, said after the match: "Total disbelief but at the same time I knew it was going to happen. Playing for this England team is unbelievable. You cannot put us down." One fan replied to the video: "It always surreal to me when royalty meets royalty. It's a humble reminder that we are all in the same world. 🥰."
