According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, while there was some early optimism from other teams that Antetokounmpo could become available, now that feeling has turned to doubt.
'Honestly, right now I'd say the prevailing sentiment from rival teams that I'm speaking to—around the combine two weeks ago, two and a half weeks ago—there was no shortage of optimism, of hope, of excitement from other teams that they were going to be able to potentially make an offer to get Giannis Antetokounmpo into their franchise, into their building. Of late, I'd say that that confidence has been replaced with skepticism. To a man, from talking to agents, team executives, whoever, there is not a lot of belief right now at this juncture. I've been told all along that if there is a decision, a formal decision made to shut or open the door on trade conversations for Giannis this summer, that it would likely happen closer to the end of June and when the offseason really, really begins.'

The Bucks were reportedly even prepared to potentially use a lottery pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, conducting extensive research on top NBA Draft prospects. Considering they don't have a selection until No. 47, any move into the top 14 picks would require a fairly significant trade.
Shaking Antetokounmpo loose likely wouldn't have been easy anyway. Can you imagine how much backlash a small market like Milwaukee would face for trading one of their best two players in franchise history?

Phoenix Suns bolster point guard depth with addition of Jared Butler
The Phoenix Suns and free agent guard Jared Butler agreed to a one-year deal, further bolstering a position of need on the team. ESPN's Sham Charania first reported the signing on July 23. He began the 2024-25 season on a two-way contract with Washington, before he was dealt to Philadelphia in exchange for Reggie Jackson at the trade deadline. He was then converted to a standard contract for the remainder of the year. The 6-foot-3 Butler averaged a combined 9.0 points and 3.7 assists through 60 games for both teams, and started in 17 of his 28 appearances for Philly. His career averages are 6.7 points, 2.8 assists, .450/.341/.818 splits and a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio. Butler is mostly remembered as a former NCAA First Team All-American who led Baylor to its 2021 national title, and was that year's Final Four Most Outstanding Player. 1986 No. 1 Pick Brad Daugherty, Five-Time NBA Champion Derek Fisher, and NBA Veterans Robbie Hummel, Austin Rivers, and Brian Scalabrine to Join NBC Sports' NBA Coverage as Game Analysts Michael Grady Joins as Play-by-Play Voice 2025-26 NBA Season Begins Oct. 21 on NBC and Peacock STAMFORD, Conn. – July 24, 2025 – NBC Sports finalized its NBA game analyst and play-by-play rosters today with the additions of analysts Brad Daugherty, Derek Fisher, Robbie Hummel, Austin Rivers, and Brian Scalabrine, and play-by-play voice Michael Grady. The 2025-26 NBA season begins on NBC and Peacock on Oct. 21. Daugherty, Fisher, Hummel, Rivers, and Scalabrine round out a game analyst roster for NBC Sports which also includes previously announced NBA veterans Jamal Crawford, Reggie Miller, and Grant Hill. Grady joins Mike Tirico, Noah Eagle, and Terry Gannon as NBC Sports' play-by-play voices for the NBA. This group will handle up to 100 regular season games -- including five games a week for portions of the season -- plus the playoffs. Brad Daugherty, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1986 NBA Draft, played nine seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he was a five-time NBA All-Star and had his No. 43 retired by the team. Daugherty had a storied college career at the University of North Carolina, playing two seasons alongside Michael Jordan and earning two first-team All-ACC selections and a second-team All-America selection. As a co-owner of Hyak Motorsports and stockcar enthusiast, Daugherty joined NBC Sports in 2020 as a NASCAR pre- and post-race analyst. A five-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers (2000-2002, 2009-2010), Derek Fisher played 18 seasons in the NBA and appeared in 287 playoff games, second only to LeBron James on the all-time list. The No. 24 overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft out of Little Rock, Fisher played in eight NBA Finals (seven with the Lakers, one with the Oklahoma City Thunder). After retiring in 2014, Fisher spent time as the head coach of the New York Knicks and the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks. A two-time AP Honorable Mention All-American during an impressive career at Purdue (2007-2012), Robbie Hummel was selected in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft and played two seasons for the Minnesota Timberwolves. The No. 10 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft out of Duke, Austin Rivers played 11 seasons in the NBA, making the playoffs eight times. He spent his career with seven teams (New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans, Los Angeles Clippers, Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves). Rivers' father is NBA champion-head coach Doc Rivers, who coached Austin for three-and-a-half seasons with the Clippers. Michael Grady has been the play-by-play voice of the Minnesota Timberwolves on Bally Sports North since the 2022-23 NBA season, which led him to ESPN's rotation of NBA play-by-play announcers at the start of the 2024-25 season. He has also called NBA games for TNT Sports. Grady will continue to call some games for the Timberwolves. The NBA returns to NBC and debuts on Peacock on Tuesday, Oct. 21, when the 2025-26 season tips off. NBC and Peacock will present coverage on Tuesday nights beginning in October. Georges Niang is well aware of how Celtics fans feel about him
Georges Niang is a Massachusetts native getting ready to don Green for the Boston Celtics. But the nine-year veteran hasn't exactly received a friendly welcome from Boston fans, and he's well aware of it. Niang was acquired by the Celtics in this summer's Kristaps Porzingis swap with the Atlanta Hawks. The move was made to shed some salary and help get Boston under the second apron heading into "gap season" that likely won't include superstar Jayson Tatum. That he was acquired for a fan favorite like Porzingis is only part of the issue Boston fans have with Niang. While he's carved out a pretty solid career as a 3-and-D role player in his five previous stops, Niang is also a bit of a hot head. He's not going to take any nonsense from the opposition, and he occasionally toes the line. He did just that in a heated playoff game between the Celtics and the 76ers two years ago, when he grabbed Jaylen Brown's ankle from the Philadelphia bench. Boston fans never forget when you try something like that on any player, let alone a star like Brown, and still have a good amount of vitriol for Niang. Local ties be damned (Niang was born in Lawrence and grew up in Methuen), there's a large faction of the fanbase waiting and hoping for Niang to get traded again this offseason. He's well aware of the less-than-warm welcome he's received from his hometown fanbase, but had a great reaction to it during an appearance on "The OGs" podcast with Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller. "You know how tough Boston fans are," Niang said to Haslem. "They don't give a [expletive] if I'm from Boston or not. They're like, 'You just took our unicorn and replaced him with a minivan. Get the [expletive] out of here.'" While Porzingis is known as "The Unicorn" thanks to his downtown threat and playmaking abilities as a big man, Niang has earned the less-than-endearing nickname "The Minivan" since it usually takes him some time to get going and build energy in games -- much like a minivan trying to pick up speed. "I'm like public enemy No. 1," he said. "They're like, 'What the... what is this? This ain't shiny, this got scratches on it!'" That perspective may earn him a few more fans in Boston. But the best way to win them over is to go out and be Georges Niang in a Celtics uniform. While Niang has been mentioned in trade rumors since landing with his hometown team, he's focused on how he can make an impact on a team in transition. With Tatum likely out for the season, Niang could carve out an extremely important role in Boston. "Boston has done a really good job when guys have missed games. It's their culture and who they are. So now it's, what can you do to maximize what you have to help them win games? You don't want to be in Boston losing," said Niang. Niang had a solid 3-and-D role (with a little bit of enforcer added in) with the top-seeded Cavaliers last season before he was sent to the Hawks at the trade deadline. He played well in Atlanta, where Niang averaged 12.1 points per game off 44.1 percent shooting. He won't provide the rim protection Boston lost by sending Porzingis to the Hawks, but the forward can stretch the floor as a 40 percent shooter from downtown. While Boston fans are still miffed at Niang for his ankle grab two summers ago, it appears he and Brown have squashed any lingering beef. Both players were courtside at TD Garden last week for the Connecticut Sun vs. Indiana Fever WNBA matchup, and posed for pictures at the game.
