Sangameswarar Temple car festival held in Coimbatore after 32 years
Festival preparations began on May 4 with the ceremonial hoisting of the temple flag between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Special pujas were performed daily for deities Sangameswarar and Akilandeswari.
On Saturday, the temple was opened early in the morning for special pujas, after which the deities were installed on the decorated chariot. The procession commenced at 10:40 a.m.
The chariot travelled along Kottai Eswaran Kovil Street, Perumal Koil Street, and NH Road before returning to its starting point at Kottai Eswaran Kovil Street by 2.15 p.m. Vedic hymns were recited ahead of the chariot, accompanied by traditional Kailasa instruments.
Thousands of people participated in the procession. As part of efforts to promote communal harmony, members of the local Muslim community distributed biscuits and refreshments to devotees.
Security arrangements were overseen by the Coimbatore City Police, with over 500 personnel deployed along the procession route.

Plea to restore Dhyana Mandapam, keep it open for devotees
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday sought response from authorities to a public interest litigation petition seeking a direction to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department to restore Dhyana Mandapam in Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai and keep it open for devotees. A Division Bench of Justices S.M. Subramaniam and A.D. Maria Clete was hearing the petition filed by V. Karuppu of Madurai. The petitioner said Dhyana Mandapam was designed to facilitate meditation. The Dhyana Mandapam served as a designated space for quiet contemplation, promoting inner peace and fostering a connection with the divine or the universal consciousness. However, the authorities have prevented the devotees and the public from meditating in this hall and started to use it as a store house to keep the wooden logs, iron bars and other temple goods. Now, the meditation hall is in a bad condition and is not being maintained properly, he said. The meditation hall is part and parcel of the temple. To use the meditation hall as a store house and to prevent devotees from meditating was totally against the Vedic principles based on which the temple was designed and constructed. The authorities cannot act against the Vedic principles, he said. The petitioner said he had written to the authorities to restore Dhyana Mandapam to its original position and allow the public to meditate in the hall. However, his efforts had failed, he said and sought a direction to the HR and CE authorities to restore Dhyana Mandapam to its original condition and keep it open for the devotees.

Kanaka Durga temple offers silk robes to shrines in Hyderabad for Bonalu festivities
As part of the Telangana Bonalu festivities, Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam, Indrakeeladri, Vijayawada, ceremoniously offered pattu vastralu (silk robes) to prominent temples in Hyderabad on Friday. The robes were presented at several temples across the twin cities, including Sri Mahankali Temples at Uppuguda and Gowlipura, Sri Simhavahini Mahankali Temple at Lal Darwaza, Sri Jagadamba Temple at Sultan Shahi, Sri Bela Mutyalamma, Sri Bangaru Maisamma, and Sri Akkanna Madanna Temples at Haribowli, and Sri Mahankaleshwara Temple at Meeralam Mandi. Executive Officer of Kanaka Durga temple V. Seenanayak said the gesture symbolised prayers for prosperity, harmony, and the continued development of both Telugu States — Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
