Illinois Tech's Mumbai campus opening aims for 300-student inaugural batch

US-based Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) is beginning preparations for opening its Mumbai campus in fall next year with an initial intake of around 300 students, Raj Echambadi, president, Illinois Tech, told Business Standard in a video interview.
'The institute is expecting to begin site exploration, and recruitment of faculty and staff in the next two-to-three months, so that active recruitment of students can start for an intake in the next fall,' Echambadi added.
Likening its upcoming Mumbai campus to a node in Illinois Tech's overall network, he said that many American students will get opportunities to study in

10,000 traders yet to get trade licence in city
1 2 Bhubaneswar: At least 10,000 traders in the city do not have trade licence, resulting in huge revenue loss for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), officials said. While identifying the trades and traders is a dynamic process, the BMC is yet to evolve a scientific approach to enrol new traders. As per the standard practice, new traders volunteer to register for a trade licence certificate. If they don't take part in the process, they evade paying trade licence fees until they are caught during raids, officials said. Ajay Mohanty, BMC deputy commissioner (revenue), said the database of holding tax can be used to identify traders because holding tax is also collected from business establishments. "There are thousands of traders outside the trade licence ambit. New traders come, and old ones shut down business. Direct survey is not possible. We have an online registration system whereby traders self-declare about the nature of their business. There are different slabs of tariffs for different trades," Mohanty said. If there are around 50,000 traders in Bhubaneswar, the civic body is receiving trade licence fees from around 40,000. "There are two ways to get evasive traders under the licence ambit. We have formed four teams that will conduct raids. If traders are found without a licence, they will be penalised, and the trade licence fee will also be collected," Mohanty added. Earlier, BMC tried to fetch traders' data from the power distribution company through the list of consumers. Out of them, it filtered the traders and segregated the data. Still many were left out. "BMC has the power to issue trade licence certificates and give permission to traders to run businesses under its jurisdiction under sections 554 and 617 of the Orissa Municipal Corporation Act, 2003," Mohanty said. BMC has asked its officers to carry out regular checks to bring all the traders under its purview and make them pay the trade licence fees online. Prior to 2020, BMC had a database of only 13,000 traders, as many new traders were not identified, resulting in the civic body losing revenue. In Feb 2021, BMC signed a pact with a private agency to conduct a survey to bring left-out traders under the trade licence ambit but the move did not work out.

M.P. receives investment proposals over ₹11,000 crore from Spain and Dubai, says CM Yadav
The Madhya Pradesh Government has received investment proposals worth more than ₹11,000 crore in multiple sectors such as infrastructure, hospitality, food processing and logistics, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Sunday (July 20, 2025) after he returned from his official visit to Spain and United Arab Emirates' Dubai. Prominent potential investment secured on the visit to two nations included a ₹2,750 crore proposal from Dubai-based BNW Developers in the infrastructure sector and a ₹4,000 crore proposal from the Chempolis Oy of the AM Greens group in the biofuel sector. The total proposals received amounted to ₹11,119 crore that are expected to create more than 14,000 employment opportunities in the State, Mr. Yadav said. Apart from this, an MoU worth ₹4,318 was signed between the M.P. State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. and Submer Technologies in Spain to explore the possibility of setting up a 1 gigawatt capacity artificial intelligence (AI)-ready green data centre in the State. Mr. Yadav, who concluded his week-long trip focused on bringing investment to the State, held various events in the two places to present the State as a potential business destination for foreign businesses in various sectors, including textile, tourism, digital infrastructure, film production and renewable energy. The State Government also signed multiple MoUs with various companies and institutions, including a film co-production MoU with the Spain Film Commission to attract Spanish production houses to the State. Mr. Yadav's visit was part of his government's initiative 'Invest Madhya Pradesh - Global Mission 2025' as government has declared 2025 as the industry and employment year. Earlier, Mr. Yadav has travelled to England, Germany and Japan to attract investment into the State.
