Morocco Embodies Image of ‘Uncomplicated, Focused on Innovation' Africa
In an interview with MAP on the sidelines of the 3rd GITEX Africa 2025, Ibombo hailed the Kingdom's dynamic technological innovation, praising Morocco's leadership in digital transformation at the African level.
'GITEX Africa Morocco is attracting not only innovators and startups, but also African decision-makers present in Marrakech,' he added, noting that this mobilization illustrates Morocco's ability to inspire and unite around structuring projects in the digital field.
Turning to Africa's digital transition process, Mr. Ibombo stressed the importance of training African youth, building capacity in new technologies and promoting South-South partnerships to accelerate the continent's digital transformation.
'It is also crucial to build the capacity of African public institutions to support the digital transition in the age of AI,' he added.

Safran, EIB, AfDB, and More Are Keen to Strengthen Relations, Cooperation with Morocco
Rabat – High-level international officials have commended Morocco's development momentum and progress spanning several sectors in a series of recent remarks. Vice President of the French National Assembly Naima Moutchou joined the growing list of officials who emphasized Morocco's development and reform across various sectors, including infrastructure. 'Morocco is, by unanimous opinion, seen as a pillar and a point of reference in a very troubled world,' she said, noting that it is 'quite fascinating' to see the country taking bold reforms across different sectors. Moutchou made her remarks a few weeks before Throne Day, which the North African country will celebrate on July 30. 'Throne Day is not only an institutional occasion but also a moment of pride for Moroccans to see their country advancing in stability and prosperity,' she said, noting that it is clear France and Morocco are entering an unprecedented phase in their relations. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), echoed the same sentiment, noting that King Mohamed VI's 'imprint is evident through a vision backed by action to achieve set objectives.' Adesina cited the large-scale projects and initiatives, showing Morocco not only as a modernized country but also among Africa's most stable economies. 'Morocco's transformation is built on deep structural reforms,' he said, noting that the country combined long-term public policies with large-scale investment. The European Investment Bank (EIB) President Nadia Calvino shared the same remarks, noting that the bank fully supports King Mohammed VI's vision for the development of more resilient and more sustainable infrastructure in Morocco. 'The EIB supports Morocco's ambition for greener and more resilient infrastructure, particularly through projects in renewable energy,' she said, citing an integrated wind program like the upcoming Noor Midelt solar complex. EIB has supported Morocco's development through nearly 150 operations since 1979, totalling more than € 10.6 billion, she said. Ross Mclnnes, Chairman of the Board of Safran Group, echoed similar remarks, highlighting Morocco's industrial development under King Mohammed VI's leadership. He said Morocco's development has 'real expertise' in key sectors, including aerospace, automotive, and renewable energy. The Safran executive notably commended the skill level of Morocco's workforce, emphasizing the importance of partnership between Morocco and the aerospace company. 'Today, we have more than 5,000 employees in Morocco across over eight sites and we hope to continue in this direction, as Morocco is one of our two or three most important countries outside France,' he said, recalling the country's 2030 World Cup project. 'I believe it will be a great showcase for Morocco as an African and Euro-Mediterranean hub, especially since the country's reach into Africa is one of its major attractions for investors like us- and for the country itself in its deserved international status.' Morocco Proposes Bold Framework for Climate Finance Reform in Africa
Rabat – At the 20th African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN-20) in Nairobi, Morocco stepped forward with a pragmatic vision to help African countries unlock climate finance and build stronger, greener economies. Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition spoke during the opening ministerial session on Wednesday, outlining a three-part approach rooted in governance, innovation, and fairness. She addressed one of the continent's most persistent challenges: access to climate finance. 'We cannot address Africa's climate needs without financial systems that place sustainability at their core,' Benali told the high-level gathering. She explained that Morocco's vision rests on integrating climate finance into national planning, tightening coordination across institutions, and pushing for a shift in the global financial order. The country has already put forward a national strategy for climate finance. It serves as both a roadmap and a commitment, aiming to align public spending with green goals and bring private investment into sustainable sectors. Benali said this strategy builds on Morocco's broader ambitions under its sustainable development and low-carbon plans. But finance alone, she argued, cannot succeed without strong institutions. The second axis of Morocco's vision calls for better coordination between environment and finance ministries. Morocco has created a national commission on climate change and biodiversity, including a working group focused specifically on climate finance. The Ministry of Finance has also started factoring climate risks into its annual debt analysis. Benali called other financial tools such as debt-for-climate swaps, green bonds, and carbon markets underdeveloped alternatives for the continent. Morocco, with the advantage of growing financial complexity and regulatory roots, can be a regional portal to connect African economies with international capital, particularly between European and Atlantic markets. The third proposal item was the global playing field. The international finance architecture is not yet level for the Global South countries, Benali believes. She recalled the 2023 IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Marrakech as a turning point, where momentum mounted to overhaul global finance for the benefit of Africa. In Nairobi, and in the presence of Kenyan President William Ruto, Benali reaffirmed Morocco's readiness to collaborate across the continent. 'We stand with African countries for a future that is resilient, self-determined, and fair,' she said. As part of this effort, Morocco plans to launch an African task force on green and sustainable finance. The goal is to create an inclusive and practical framework that serves African needs and strengthens the region's ability to meet its environmental and climate objectives.
