Queen Latifah reacts to The Equalizer's cancellation
The 55-year-old star played Robyn McCall, also known as the Equalizer, on the TV show for five seasons, and she's now taken to social media to reflect on her experience, after CBS cancelled the crime-drama series.
The rapper-turned-actress wrote on Instagram: "Stepping into a kick-a** role like Robyn was everything I hoped it would be. Shakim and I at Flavor Unit are always excited to bring these kinds of roles and projects to life—and then we just hope you love them as much as we do. The Equalizer blew past every dream we had for it, and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons honestly feels surreal.
"Thank you to our amazing cast, crew, and producers and writers! And I can't say enough about the FANS! Y'all have been so loyal, so loud, and so ride-or-die—and that's exactly why we keep doing this. We can't thank you enough. It means the world to us.
"And don't worry—I'll be back kicking a** in something new real soon. Can't wait to share it with you.
"All my [heart emoji] QL (sic)"
Latifah has starred on 'The Equalizer since 2021, and she previously explained the "mentality" that she brought to the TV show.
The actress - who also starred on the TV sitcom 'Living Single' from 1993 until 1998 - told Variety in 2022: "I've been fortunate enough to have a film career where we were always coming up with new things. We're always trying to push the envelope and be more creative, so I bring that mentality to television.
"How can we push it even further? How can we make it even more beautiful or more interesting?"
Latifah also revealed that the show's creators were conscious of fan feedback.
The actress - whose real name is Dana Owens - said: "[We're] digesting what worked and what didn't work, and stepping our game up, levelling up for next year, because we've got some serious fans who love the show. We want to make sure that we keep them and build on that audience."

Jerry Bruckheimer reveals plans for sequel to Crimson Tide
Jerry Bruckheimer has revealed plans for a sequel to Crimson Tide. It comes 30 years after the submarine thriller debuted in cinemas. Speaking this week, the 80-year-old Hollywood producer was quoted by Variety saying: 'We have a really good director and writer talking to the navy right now about what's going on under the water.' Jerry made the comments during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, where he discussed the legacy of the original 1995 film and his hopes for a follow-up. Crimson Tide, directed by Tony Scott and written by Michael Schiffer, followed a tense stand-off between a commanding officer and his executive officer on a US nuclear submarine. Denzel Washington, now 69, starred opposite Gene Hackman, who died in February aged 95. Jerry said Denzel may return to reprise his role, depending on the quality of the screenplay. 'If we give him a good script, I think he'd do it,' he said. A source close to Washington confirmed to Variety any involvement would be script-dependent and no final screenplay currently exists. If Denzel does sign on, he will need a new co-star. Gene's death earlier this year rules out a return for his character, Captain Frank Ramsey. Other key figures from the original production, including director Tony Scott and writer Robert Towne, have also passed away. Jerry paid tribute to their contributions, saying: 'We had Tony Scott, a phenomenal director. We had Quentin Tarantino and Robert Towne, two of the greatest writers and directors, writing on that movie… I don't know if I'll ever replicate that kind of writing for a film.' Although Michael Schiffer was the credited screenwriter for Crimson Tide, the script underwent numerous rewrites during development. At various stages, stars such as Warren Beatty, Al Pacino, Tommy Lee Jones and Brad Pitt were considered for lead roles before Denzel and Gene were cast. Jerry, who appeared on the show to promote F1, starring Brad Pitt and directed by Joseph Kosinski, is no stranger to long-gestating sequels. He referenced the 36-year wait between Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick, which he also produced alongside Tom Cruise. And he confirmed a third instalment is in active development, saying: 'I can't talk about (the story) yet, but it's a real good one.' A spokesperson for Disney, the studio behind Crimson Tide, declined to comment on the proposed sequel.

Rob McElhenney defends 'kinda douchey' name change
Rob McElhenney has admitted his name change is "kinda douchey". The 48-year-old actor was recently reported to be legally changing his moniker to Rob Mac after years of fans mispronouncing his surname, and now he's defended the decision. In a tongue in cheek video on X, he said: "Okay, I'm going to dedicate exactly one minute to this. Start the clock. "Yes, I'm shortening my name to Rob Mac. Mostly a stage name, but I digress. Is it kinda douchey? Sure. "But the amount of time that I have wasted trying to get people to either say or spell my name correctly is literally days of my life — trust me, I added it up. "More importantly, it means thousands of you have had minutes of your life stolen by me because of my last name." Clips of people messing up his name played in the background, while Rob joked that his wife Kaitlin Olson, who he married in 2008, has also suffered. The It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia actor continued: "Still, it's a family name. My grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and I all share it, and I love them and I want to stay connected. "There's heritage. Except, it's not even really our f****** name! Not only have many generations changed the spelling, the current one was just given to my ancestor by a government official who decided that this was now the spelling." He then showed an old photo of his great-great-grandmother, with a handwritten caption revealing her name was Bridget McIllhenny. He said: "[But] times have changed and most people call me Rob Mac anyways. "My family knows me and loves me regardless of how many syllables I have, and that's the only thing I really care about. "There are so many things going on in the world, and this is a silly one to continue to waste your time with." Late last week, a representative for the Wrexham AFC co-owner - who leads the UK football club with Ryan Reynolds - confirmed he has filed to legally change his name. From now on, he will be credited as Rob Mac in professional projects. He first mentioned the idea of the name change to Variety in May, and at the time his wife and Always Sunny co-star Kaitlin Olson admitted she and their children weren't overjoyed by the change. She jokingly told Variety: "The kids are really not happy about it, because they have that last name. And so do I, legally!"
