Thai soldier who lost leg 'has no regrets'
Sgt Maj Pichitchai Boonchula, a squad leader from Infantry Company 1, 22nd Military Circle, is receiving treatment at Fort Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital in Warin Chamrap district after stepping on a mine while inspecting an area recently cleared of opposing forces on Wednesday, the second landmine incident after the Chong Bok incident on July 16.
"At the time, I was leading my men to prepare for the next stage of the operation," he said.
"While checking the area, I turned around and stepped on the mine. It was a spot we regularly patrol, and no explosives had ever been detected there."
The Thai unit was carrying out a mission to remove Cambodian forces from the area. Although the number of Cambodian troops present was unknown, Thai soldiers discovered only a temporary shelter used for rain cover.
The area was secured, and Thai authorities are awaiting further negotiations with their Cambodian counterparts, he said.
Sgt Maj Pichitchai said his condition has improved, and his morale remains strong.
"I have no regrets. I was mentally prepared. I'm here for the country," he said.
He urged fellow soldiers to be extra cautious during patrols, noting this was the second landmine incident in the area.
He also called for enhanced training in the use of explosive detection equipment.
Two more soldiers -- Cpl Butthep Jarubanyong and Pvt Jakkrapong Khuadchan -- were admitted late on Wednesday with chest pain and hearing loss caused by the explosion, bringing the total number of injured personnel to seven.

Cambodian 'spy' held near border
A Cambodian national suspected of espionage has been detained by Thai security forces near the eastern border in Chanthaburi province. According to a military intelligence source, personnel from the Marine Task Force in Chanthaburi invited Oeun Khoem, 43, for questioning at Pong Nam Ron police station on Tuesday. Immigration police and provincial police investigators also participated in the questioning. Oeun Khoem, holds a Cambodian passport and a valid Non-Immigrant L-A visa (specifically for workers in certain sectors). Authorities began an investigation after suspecting Oeun Khoem was a Cambodian military intelligence agent. Evidence against the suspect included a Facebook post by him that said: 'THAILAND ATTACKS FIRST, CAMBODIA DEFENDS,' along with photographs. Officials also discovered a Cambodian military uniform in his Mazda pickup truck and at his registered address. Although his passport and visa were valid, investigators confiscated his mobile phone for digital forensic examination. Under further questioning, he allegedly confessed to being a second lieutenant serving in Cambodia's intelligence unit. It was reported he was gathering information on Thai military activities in the Chanthaburi-Trat border area and transmitting the intel to the Cambodian army for operational purposes. Meanwhile, Traisuree Traisaranakul, a former Bhumjaithai Party MP for Si Sa Ket, one of the provinces affected by the Thai-Cambodian border clashes, warned that foreign spies are now posing as donors, bringing supplies to frontline villages near the border under the guise of humanitarian aid, while surveying GPS coordinates and deploying drones.

Thai army condemns Cambodia for breaking ceasefire agreement
The Thai army on Tuesday condemns Cambodia for breaking a ceasefire agreement which took effect at 12am Tuesday by firing at many Thai locations afterwards. Thai army spokesman Maj Gen Winthai Suvaree said at the army headquarters Tuesday morning that after midnight Cambodia fired its weapons at many areas on the Thai soil. 'That is the intention to violate the (ceasefire) agreement and ruin a mutual trust system. The army condemns the act,' Maj Gen Winthai said. The army spokesman said that Thailand had to carry out retaliatory measures properly in accordance with its legitimate right to self-defence. He said that Thailand did not make any invasion but was blocking incursion and protecting its sovereignty in compliance with international rules.

Taiwan invites Thai proposals for community wellness campaign
The Taiwan International Trade Administration under the Ministry of Economic Affairs invites Thai public institutions, enterprises and SMEs to propose pioneering ways to apply Taiwan's health-focused technologies to local community needs under the "2025 Go Healthy with Taiwan" campaign. Held with the aim to drive regional wellness innovation, the campaign is calling for proposals across three strategic sectors -- "Fitness & Sports Technology", "Cycling" and "Smart Healthcare". Proposals will be evaluated for excellence based on four aspects -- benefits of enhancing health and well-being, connection of products or solutions from Taiwanese enterprises, innovation and feasibility. A cash prize worth US$30,000 (969,000 baht) will be awarded to the most impactful and innovative proposal of each sector. Also, two representatives from each of the top three proposals will have the opportunity to visit Taiwan for an exclusive "Go Healthy Tour" -- a curated, immersive experience offering direct access to Taiwan's dynamic health technology ecosystem. This tour will feature hands-on demonstrations, site visits and networking opportunities with leading Taiwanese companies, enabling participants to explore collaboration, product integration and market expansion opportunities firsthand. Through this campaign, Taiwan is fostering deep, cross-border collaboration that empowers Thai communities with Taiwan's most innovative wellness solutions, setting a new benchmark for healthier societies in Asia. The campaign only accepts English proposals. The submission deadline is Aug 14 and there is no registration fee.
