Andhra High Court dismisses pleas seeking stay on DSC exam
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday dismissed a batch of petitions filed by aspirants seeking a stay on the conduct of the DSC-2025 examination, scheduled for June 6, and subsequent recruitment proceedings.
Justice Kuncham Maheshwar Rao, delivering the verdict, stated that the issuance of hall tickets has already been completed and all arrangements for the examination are in place. He noted that the petitioners failed to present sufficient preliminary evidence to warrant interim relief.
'There are no valid grounds to halt the recruitment process. Public interest outweighs individual grievances in this matter,' the judge observed. The court emphasised the State government's authority to frame recruitment policies.
The petitioners had raised objections concerning age eligibility, language requirements, and the limited preparation time. Boyi Kannayya and 12 others from Kurnool requested that all candidates eligible under the DSC-2024 notification also be considered eligible for DSC-2025. They also urged the court to increase the upper age limit from 44 to 45 years.

Waqf law protest likely to draw large crowd today
1 2 Patna: Patna is set to witness a major mobilisation on Sunday as Muslims from across the country are expected to gather at Gandhi Maidan to voice strong opposition to the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. The event, titled 'Waqf bachao, dastoor bachao conference', is being organised by Imarat-e-Shariah, which operates in Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha. The newly enacted waqf law by the NDA-led central govt is currently under legal scrutiny in the Supreme Court. Critics argue it undermines religious autonomy, infringes upon fundamental rights and violates established legal principles and Supreme Court judgments. "The aim of the conference is to raise a united and dignified voice against the recently enacted Waqf Act, 2025, which is widely seen as trampling upon the Islamic principles of waqf," said a press note issued by the organisers. Fazle Rahma Rahmani, media convener of Imarat-e-Shariah, said, "We cannot give an exact number, but the mobilisation teams have estimated a turnout of around 10 lakh. People are coming not because of prominent personalities, but to register their absolute rejection of the Act." He added that the headquarters of the Imarat-e-Shariah at Phulwarisharif, Patna, is coordinating the effort. "Maulana Ahmad Wali Faisal Rahmani is the chief organiser. Separate mobilisation teams were formed for Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha," he added. Participants began arriving in Patna from Saturday morning. Arrangements have been made for their accommodation in mosques, dharmashalas and community halls across the city. Volunteers will assist with crowd movement and logistics throughout Sunday. "The conference represents a peaceful, democratic and constitutional expression of the community's collective will to demand the rollback of the draconian legislation," the organisers said, adding that the event also carries significant political messaging.

Opposition to Zumba dance unacceptable, says Kerala Speaker
The opposition to Zumba dance will not be accepted by children or the general public, Speaker A.N. Shamseer has said. Inaugurating the MLA Merit Award-2025 in Alappuzha on Saturday, Mr. Shamseer called those opposing Zumba ignorant. 'Islam is a highly progressive religion. It is a few orthodox scholars, cloaked in the attire of Islam, who are voicing opposition. We should not give in to their demands. I will stand firmly behind Education Minister V. Sivankutty on the matter,' the Speaker said. He said that Zumba was being practised by people of all genders. 'Those who criticise Zumba by claiming that participants wear revealing clothes are truly narrow-minded. The government should not succumb to the pressure of such individuals,' Mr. Shamseer said.

HC bars ‘coercive' action against Jagan till July 1
Guntur: Andhra Pradesh High Court restrained police from taking any coercive action against YSRCP chief Y J Jagan Mohan Reddy regarding incidents at Rentapalla on June 18. The court took up hearing on the quash petition filed by Jagan Mohan Reddy in connection with the Rentapalla tour incident . The court raised a serious question, asking how cases can be registered against those inside the car when the incident is related to a road accident. The petition seeks quashing of the FIR registered over the unfortunate death of party worker Cheeli Singaiah. Along with Jagan, other accused in the case have also filed similar petitions. The High Court's interim order provides temporary relief by restraining the police from initiating hasty or vindictive actions until further hearing. The court will resume the hearing of the case on July 1. Meanwhile, Guntur district transport department officials checked vehicle fitness of the AP 40 DH2349 Fortuner Bullet Proof vehicle in Guntur city against the backdrop death of Cheeli Singayya,53, who fell under right side front wheel of the vehicle and died, while Jagan Mohan Reddy was proceeding to Rentapalla village of Palnadu district. Vehicle fitness test was conducted under the aegis of motor vehicle inspector Gangdhar Prasad. They will submit a report to the government. It may be mentioned that the police questioned 18 security personnel who covered Jagan Mohan Reddy's security while he was going to Rentapalla village.
