Hamas Says It is Ready for Immediate Gaza Ceasefire Talks
The Palestinian militant group said it completed internal discussions and consultations with other factions about the latest mediator's proposal to reach a ceasefire in the war-torn Gaza.
'Hamas is fully prepared, with all seriousness, to immediately enter a new round of negotiations on the mechanism for implementing this framework,' the Palestinian group said in a statement according to Al Jazeera.
The announcement comes just days before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel to Washington on Monday to meet with US President Donald Trump.
Trump says he is pushing for a ceasefire in Gaza, which has suffered devastating damage after nearly 21 months of genocidal assaults by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF). However, the constant flow of money and arms backing that the US has provided as Israel's closest ally sends an entirely different message.
The new proposal includes a 60-day truce period, with Hamas releasing half of the Israeli hostages still alive in exchange for Israel freeing Palestinian prisoners from its jails.
The genocide continues
Despite the diplomatic progress, the IOF continued their relentless genocidal campaign across the besieged enclave on Friday, carrying out more attacks on Palestinians scrambling to survive in the dire conditions.
Gaza's Civil Defense reported that 52 Palestinians were murdered in airstrikes, bombing raids, and gunfire, including 11 people killed near humanitarian aid sites.
The genocide has left Gaza's population facing a severe, inhumane situation with shortages of food, water, and medical supplies.
International aid organizations have struggled to deliver assistance to civilians trapped in the war zone.
Three days ago, reports surfaced that the IOF once again was shooting at people waiting for aid distribution at points managed by the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) without warning. This has become a common occurrence, so much so that the IOF have even admitted they were instructed to do so to global media.
The ceasefire proposal represents the most significant diplomatic breakthrough in months of stalled negotiations, primarily delayed by the Israeli side.
Previous attempts to broker a lasting truce have collapsed over disagreements about prisoner exchanges, troop withdrawals, and reconstruction plans.
A groundbreaking report
A new report from the United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory outlines how various corporations are supporting Israel's displacement of Palestinians and military campaign in Gaza — actions that violate international law and are described in the report as genocidal.
The report, compiled by Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese and set to be formally presented at a press briefing in Geneva on Thursday, identifies 48 companies involved, including major US technology firms such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet Inc. — the parent company of Google.
The investigation also produced a database of over 1,000 corporate entities linked to these activities.
'[Israel's] indefinite occupation has become an ideal environment for weapons manufacturers and Big Tech firms — marked by high demand, minimal regulation, and no accountability — allowing private investors and institutions, both public and private, to profit without restraint,' Albanese asserts in the report. Trump Alleges Gaza Ceasefire Talks with Netanyhu are Moving in ‘Very Good' Direction
Rabat – US President Donald Trump hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday evening, urging him to end the genocidal war on Gaza. The meeting came as a glimmer of renewed hope for a ceasefire rise following a recent truce between Israel and Iran. Trump told reporters that peace talks are allegedly moving in a 'very good' direction and expressed confidence that Hamas is ready to accept a 60-day ceasefire deal. 'They want to meet and they want to have that ceasefire,' he said. Indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel resumed in Qatar on Sunday. A Palestinian official told AFP that Monday's talks ended without a breakthrough, but discussions are expected to continue this week. Additionally, Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is expected to travel to Doha to help push the ceasefire deal forward. AFP quoted two Palestinian sources close to the talks as saying that the US-backed proposal includes a 60-day truce, as well as a prisoner exchange with the release of 10 Israeli hostages and several bodies held by Hamas for an unspecified number of Palestinian prisoners by Israel. Also listed are Hamas' conditions for Israel's gradual withdrawal from Gaza, guarantees to avoid renewed fighting, and the return of the UN-led aid distribution system. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said ending the 'war' and bringing home the hostages are Trump's top priorities in the region. Netanyahu says no to a full Palestinian state During the dinner at the White House, Netanyahu said Israel would always keep security control over Gaza and ruled out creating a full Palestinian state. 'People will say it's not a complete state, it's not a state. We don't care,' he said. Despite the ongoing talks, violence on the ground has not stopped, and Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continue their relentless attacks on civilians. On Monday, at least 12 people were killed in Gaza by the IOF, including six people inside a clinic sheltering displaced families, according to Gaza's civil defense agency. In addition, Israel has targeted hundreds of civilians seeking aid at US-backed aid distribution points. As Trump and Netanyahu met in Washington, several dozen American protesters gathered near the White House, chanting against US complicity in Israel's genocide on Gaza and accusnig Netanyahu of war crimes. 55% of Survey Respondents View Morocco as External Threat to Spain
Rabat – A new survey by Spain's Elcano Royal Institute shows that 55% of Spanish people view Morocco as a main external threat to their country. The number marks a six-point increase from a similar survey that the institute carried out last year. Conducted between May 19-29 this year, the survey featured responses from 1,000 participants. The findings ranked Morocco higher than Russia in terms of how much the North African country is perceived as a threat among Spaniards. Russia comes next with 33% of votes and the US with 19% – the latter marking a surge from 5% in 2024. According to the survey, the perception of Morocco as an external threat is stronger among right-wing respondents. Over 60% of the respondents, meanwhile, see Spain as safe from immediate threat from other countries, while 40% of others disagree. The perception of Morocco as a threat is fueled by different factors, including narratives in the Spanish media, which closely monitor the country's development across multiple sectors, particularly the military. In November, Spanish media were concerned about US President Donald Trump's re-election as well as the strengthened ties between Rabat and Washington, with local analysts warning of the potential implications for Spain's interests and influence in the Mediterranean. Spanish newspaper El Confidencial quoted Jose Antonio Gurpegui claiming that the strong ties between Morocco and the US will influence any future disputes between Rabat and Madrid. A few months ago, Spanish media also warned of growing threats to the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla. Several publications expressed alarm over potential shifts in the enclaves' status under Donald Trump's second US presidency. 'In the realm of security, there is concern that Trump could make an announcement about Ceuta and Melilla similar to what he did about Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara,' El Español reported in an analysis published in February. Spanish media outlets are also concerned about Morocco's robust and growing military, viewing it as a threat rather than a sovereign strategic choice. El Independiente claimed in March that Morocco's advancement in aviation 'poses a challenge to neighboring armies, including Spain,' adding that 'the Spanish case is particularly striking,' Spanish media are also alarmed by Morocco's infrastructure and economic development, with many reports highlighting the country's performance in terms of port activities, among others. Notably, Spanish media are concerned about the good performance that Morocco's Tangier Med Port has been achieving in the past years, drawing comparisons between the Moroccan hub and Algeciras and other central Spanish ports.
