Bright Thunder oozes class in Deauville romp
Karl Burke's four-year-old was a Listed winner at Chantilly last summer and after going close on home soil at Goodwood and Epsom earlier this season, gained some valuable compensation on the continent.
It was a victory that was a welcome tonic for the Spigot Lodge team after near misses both earlier on the Deauville card with Spycatcher and in the German Derby with Contingent and there could plenty more to look forward to with the daughter of Night Of Thunder after her commanding performance in the hands of Sam James.
James told Sky Sports Racing: 'She jumped really well, if not too well and I wanted to get a bit of cover.

'However, once I got behind Christophe (Soumillon on Rubies From Burma) on the lead horse she settled away grand and I thought we were going quite slow so I was quite happy to let her find herself and keep coming.
'She doesn't find an awful lot off the bridle but to be fair to her today she's really quickened up and put the race to bed.
'A Group Three wouldn't be out of the question for her and the faster they go in these races the more it suits her. She seems to like coming over here so maybe she can come over again.
'You can sometimes get racing a long way out on a straight mile, but today it all went to plan and she obviously likes coming over and Karl does as well when he brings horses over here.'

'Triple D' is hoping to become the first fighter to ever beat Usyk on fight night - and a former world champion has sent the Brit some advice ahead of the Wembley showdown British boxing legend George Groves has advised Daniel Dubois to start 'quickly' in his upcoming clash with Oleksandr Usyk. The pair are scheduled to meet for a second time on Saturday night at Wembley Stadium, London. Dubois and Usyk first went head-to-head back in 2023 - with the latter going on to win via knockout in the ninth round. That said, the clash was not without drama. Usyk was sent crashing to the canvas in the fifth round with a body shot that was later deemed a low blow, much to the frustration of Dubois' team. Since then, 'Triple D' has been on a real hot streak in the ring, winning his next three fights. The British star comes into the mouthwatering undisputed heavyweight showdown off the back of a knockout victory over Anthony Joshua. Since making his professional debut, Usyk has been untouchable. As of yet, no fighter has toppled the Ukrainian - with Dubois hoping to become the first man to score a win over the two-time undisputed champion. 'Triple D' is currently in the final stages of preparations for Saturday night's dust-up and will no doubt have a set gameplan to emerge victorious. Speaking to DAZN, the British heavyweight champ explained the change: "It is how you be fighting, isn't it? And it is much cooler. Training in the day... you would be boiling." Rose fired up for 23rd tilt at winning the Claret Jug
PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland, July 16 (Reuters) - Justin Rose will make his 23rd bid to win the British Open when he tees off at Royal Portrush on Thursday and he firmly believes he can fulfil his dream of lifting the Claret Jug at the age of 44. The Englishman has twice been joint runner-up, last year and in 2018, after finishing fourth as a 17-year-old amateur in 1998. "As a kid, on the putting green since I've been playing the game since probably age eight, I've been dreaming about winning The Open of course," Rose told reporters on Wednesday. "1998 obviously was a fairytale story and ending to my amateur career. I've been close a couple of times. As a British player, it's been the one that I've dreamed about winning and holed the putt many times in my mind." Twelve months ago at Troon, Rose ended two shots behind American Xander Schauffele. "If I look back at Troon, I think I played as good a golf as anybody for the whole entire week," he said. "I went out and I shot the second lowest score of the day on Sunday, but I got beaten by Xander who played an amazing round of golf." Rose, the 2013 U.S. Open champion, endured another near miss in April when he lost the Masters in a playoff against his Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy, seven years after losing the Green Jacket in the same way to Sergio Garcia. "Obviously, when Rory was there over his three-footer to win and the tap-in, I was definitely, oh, man, I've kind of been here before watching the same story, being in a playoff against Sergio, so there was definitely a little bit of deja vu. "I was able to still be happy for Rory in that moment, and it had been a long time coming for him. It was always going to be a matter of time," Rose said. Northern Irishman McIlroy, the world number two, will start as one of the favourites to land his second British Open title, roared on by the home fans. "Rory is obviously a local hero around here, and rightly so. The legend around him in these parts has been growing for a long, long time," Rose said. "I feel like the pressure is off him almost from that point of view. This would just be like cherries on top of everything for him." Rose acknowledged he was probably too old to improve his game much. "I would say it's going to be hard to get a ton better and transform my game to suddenly add new dimensions. But in situations and certain environments, I can still bring my best, and if I do that I still feel very competitive," he added.
