Chargers LB Denzel Perryman released from jail, charges dropped after arrest on weapons charges

Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman was released from a Los Angeles County jail Monday afternoon, three days after he was arrested on weapons charges. Per court records obtained by multiple outlets, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman declined to pursue charges. Perryman made an appearance at Chargers facilities Monday evening. Perryman's teammate Daiyan Henley shared video of his appearance on Instagram. Per the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, deputies pulled Perryman over Friday night for vehicle code violations. Deputies say that they searched Perryman's vehicle and found five firearms, two of which were "assault style rifles." "On August 1, 2025, at 9:30 p.m., South Los Angeles Station deputies conducted a traffic stop on Los Angeles Chargers football player Denzel Perryman, 32, for vehicle code violations," a statement from the LACSD reads. "During the traffic stop deputies discovered five firearms in Mr. Perryman's vehicle, two of which were assault style rifles. He was arrested and booked on weapons violation charges and was cooperative with deputies." It's not clear what prompted the search of Perryman's car. Per the LACSD, the weapons resulted in multiple weapons violations. Perryman was detained and held without bail at the South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station. He remained in custody over the weekend and was scheduled for a hearing at an Inglewood courthouse Tuesday morning. But prosecutors declined to pursue charges, and Perryman was released from custody Monday afternoon. Perryman's agent Ron Butler provided a statement to The Athletic Monday night. 'We're grateful the matter has been resolved,' Butler said, via a statement to The Athletic. 'At this time, Denzel is focused on getting back to his family and teammates. Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters Monday that he visited Perryman in jail on Sunday. 'He was in good spirits,' Harbaugh said. 'I love Denzel. He's always done right. He's never been in trouble. Got a beautiful family, and we're just letting the due process play out.' Perryman, 32, is a 10-season NFL veteran. He played his first six seasons with the Chargers before stints with the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans. He returned to the Chargers in 2024 and played in and started 11 games. A Pro Bowl selection in 2021, Perryman projects to play a key role with the Chargers inside linebacker corps this season and is listed as a starter on the Chargers depth chart.

Family of 19-year-old bicyclist killed in crash calls for change

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — The family of a 19-year-old who was hit and killed while riding her bike home, is calling for change in the face of grief. Compassionate and kind, that's how Kayla Vanlandingham's parents are remembering their daughter, full of joy, strength, and perseverance. 'And how much, like, her presence and just her kindness and grit, like, I've been in the world a while, and I know I'm speaking of my own child, but I haven't met anybody like that,' said Melinda Montoya, Kayla's mother. 'Whose life is important enough to make a change?' said Montoya. Their daughter's life of adventure came to an end, after she was struck by a car on Carlisle and Delamar as she traveled the Hahn Arroyo Trail in Northeast Albuquerque. Montoya said Kayla survived a brain tumor and was studying at the University of New Mexico. 'Part of the reason she chose alternate transportation was she knew she had a seizure condition and she just didn't want to take any unnecessary risks,' said Montoya. Montoya said her daughter was also working at the city's Esperanza Bicycle Safety Education Center. 'I mean, we would have been devastated if it was a medical reason, but this just feels senseless, and the loss feels harder,' said Montoya. Montoya remembers the last time she saw her daughter saying, 'She gave me a hug and closed the garage door on me, and I just still can see her standing, like, in the doorway, pressing the button, and just waving at me as I went.' 'Nobody should be going through what we're going through,' said Montoya. The Albuquerque cycling community is also mourning Kayla's death. On Tuesday, City officials said this is the third member they've lost from the Esperanza Bicycle Safety Education Center Family. 'Just a week ago, a young life, a beautiful bright light Kayla Vanlandingham lost her life in a tragic accident,' said Dave Simon, Director of Parks and Recreation with CABQ on Tuesday. A crosswalk signal stands to warn drivers of pedestrians and cyclists at the intersection. Police told News 13, Vanlandingham was heading east approaching Carlisle when video showed her travel across northbound traffic. After passing the pedestrian island in the middle of the crosswalk, investigators said one car stops, and the car in the next lane appears to slam on their brakes to stop. But then a Ford Fiesta in the outer lane hits the cyclist. APD said the driver stayed on scene to speak to detectives and has not been charged, citing the statue that does not require drivers to come to a stop on a yellow flashing light. Police also said the driver was traveling below the speed limit. Investigators concluded that the driver could not see the cyclist. Montoya is calling for infrastructure updates, mandatory stops, statute changes, and policy changes. Montoya said she is committed to creating change and has plans to speak at Bike ABQ's upcoming board meeting. 'I know she (Kayla) would have wanted me to ask if the other driver was okay. I didn't even need to know at that point who was at fault. I just know they didn't mean it,' said Alek Herrick, Montoya's husband. This incident brings the total to nine bicyclists hit and killed by a car in the New Mexico this year. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Victorville man sought for attempted murder after throwing incendiary devices into home

A Victorville man is being sought for attempted murder on Monday after he allegedly threw multiple incendiary devices into a home. Deputies were called to the 14000 block of Montecito Place at around 2:20 a.m. after learning of a possible arson in the area, according to a news release from the San Bernardino Police Departmnet/Victorville Police Department. "Through investigation, deputies learned Raymond Woods stood outside one of the residence bedroom windows. Woods made threats before throwing multiple improvised incendiary devices through several of the residence windows," the release said. All six occupants of the home were able to evacuate without injury, while Woods fled from the area at the same time. Woods, 47, has not been located since. Investigators say that the incident was not random and that Woods knew the people inside the home. Anyone who knows more is asked to contact VPD at (760) 241-2911 or SBSD at (760) 956-5001.
