Talking to reporters, the former CM said there was no confusion in the minds of workers of both parties about an alliance. Speculation about the alliance has picked up pace ahead of civic body polls and the poor show by MNS and UBT Sena in the 2024 assembly elections. Uddhav, however, parried questions on whether there were any kind of tie-up talks taking place currently between his party and MNS, a party floated by Raj Thackeray in 2006.
UBT Sena MP Sanjay Raut suggested there may have been phone calls between the two cousins. He did not elaborate further.
MNS spokesperson and Mumbai unit president Sandeep Deshpande said Sena (UBT) should first send a formal proposal to Raj Thackeray or at least make a phone call to break the ice. He cited instances of the 2014 assembly polls and 2017 Mumbai civic body elections when MNS had made an attempt to form an alliance with the undivided Shiv Sena.
Asked about the developments, CM Devendra Fadnavis said there was nothing to react to the buzz about Uddhav and Raj reuniting politically. "It is for Raj Thackeray to react to Uddhav Thackeray's comments that what people want will happen. How am I concerned? They will decide whether to have an alliance or not," Fadnavis told reporters during a visit to Gadchiroli.
Deputy CM Eknath Shinde declined to respond to a question on the matter but said Mahayuti comprising BJP and its allies will win local body polls.

Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said it was up to Raj and Uddhav to take a call. "What is the point in you and me discussing it?" he asked.
The Congress said it will welcome such an alliance. State Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe said, "There have been talks from both the Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS that they will join hands to protect Maharashtra's interests and keep a communal BJP away. If the two parties come together for this, we will welcome the move."
The Thackeray cousins have recently indicated they could ignore "trivial issues" and join hands. While Raj has said uniting in the interest of the Marathi 'manoos' was not difficult, Uddhav has insisted he was ready to put aside trivial fights, provided those working against Maharashtra's interests were not entertained.
On Thursday, MNS' Amit Thackeray said alliances do not happen by making statements in the media, and added Uddhav and Raj should talk. PTI

Maharashtra govt forms panel for growth of Marathi cinema
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 5 (ANI): Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday directed the formation of a committee at the government level to find a permanent solution to the issue of regional cinema getting affected, including getting additional shows for Marathi films in multiplexes. At a meeting held at the Mantralaya along with producers, distributors and the cinema workers organisation of various parties, Shinde stated that a report should be sent by the government within a time frame of one and a half months, further stating that it was the role of the state government to ensure the survival of the Marathi other issues including low number of screens available to Marathi films in multiplexes, removal of cinemas from theaters within three days without informing them, taking a week's fee and not returning the remaining amount, requesting the Censor Board to give censor approval to Marathi films despite repeated requests, and changing or canceling the showtimes of Marathi films at the last minute were also discussed in the meeting. The chairman of this committee is the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department. The Committee will also include the Principal Secretary, Appeals and Security, the Principal Secretary, Urban Development, the Secretary of the Cultural Affairs Department, the Secretary of Transport, producers of Marathi films, distributors, multiplex owners, Film City officials, representatives of the Film Corporation and representatives of the Producers Corporation. 'Based on the report submitted in the next one and a half months, the government will take action and make their decisions," Shinde further stated. Court allows khichdi scam accused to travel to Delhi for representing Sena UBT
A special court in Mumbai permitted Suraj Chavan, a close aide of Sena UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray and an accused in the khichdi scam, to travel to Delhi for 'discharging important official and legal duties' in connection with the functioning of the party. The court allowed Chavan to travel to Delhi for 20 days this month, after furnishing an itinerary to the investigation officer of the Enforcement Directorate, which had arrested him in January 2024. Chavan was granted bail in February this year by the Bombay High Court. 'The applicant (Chavan) wanted to travel to Delhi for discharging important official and legal duties in connection with the functioning of Shiv Sena (UBT) and to represent the party before the Election Commission of India and to consult Senior Legal Counsels in relation to the pending proceeding before the Hon'ble Supreme Court concerning intra-party disputes and to attend the party meeting with the elected Members of Parliament belonging to Shiv Sena (UBT) at New Delhi. He is ready to obey the orders of the Court,' the court said, referring to Chavan's plea. His lawyers also had submitted that the right to travel is an aspect of fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution, and that there is nothing to show that he had previously misused the liberty granted to him. 'Considering the nature of application and purpose of travel, coupled with the fact that it will take time for trial to commence, the applicant is entitled to travel on certain conditions,' the court said in the order passed last week. He was directed to pay a deposit of Rs 1 lakh as security and to inform the ED on his return. Chavan was arrested by the ED alleging irregularities in work orders issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to supply khichdi to migrant workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.
