Weekly poll: Nothing Phone (3), the good, the bad or the ugly?
After releasing the Nothing Phone (2) in 2023, Nothing took a year off from premium phones – but it promised a proper flagship for 2025. And, uh, here it is. The Nothing Phone (3) quickly became the talk of the town and not in a good way. Where should we start?
The design is one of the more controversial aspects of the phone and it's hard to ignore. Nothing has built a reputation for out-of-the-box designs and the brand's style is instantly recognizable. However, this latest model – remember, it was two years in the making! – caused an avalanche of negative reactions.

For context, a 12/256GB OnePlus 13 is $900/£900/€1,000/₹70,000 without any discounts. No, you're not reading it wrong, the OnePlus flagship has a lower MSRP in India than the Nothing phone.
The Nothing Phone (3) has a non-LTPO 6.67' 120Hz OLED display and a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 instead of Elite. The triple 50MP camera has a large 1/1.3' main sensor, but the 3x periscope has a smaller sensor than the Phone (3a) Pro (1/2.75' vs. 1/1.95'). The battery is 5,150mAh in most of the world and 5,500mAh in India – in either case you are looking at 65W wired and 15W wireless charging. The dust and water resistance is the best of any Nothing phone so far but it's still only IP68.
Those are not exactly flagship specs, are they? So far, Nothing phones have been better value for money than much of the competition, but the same can't be said of the Phone (3). How much does that dot matrix display on the back cost, anyway?

Peter, 06 July 2025 This week we're having a look at Samsung deals, both smartphones and tablets. The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE comes with a free Galaxy Watch7. This is on top of a £50 discount. The FE features the Exynos 2400e chipset, a 6.7' 120Hz 1080p+ OLED display and a 4,700mAh battery with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. The camera system includes a 50MP main, 8MP 3x/75mm telephoto and 12MP ultra-wide. Meanwhile, the rivalry between the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and S25 Edge continues. The Edge is slender and light (5.8mm, 163g), while the Ultra is chunkier (8.2mm, 218g) but more capable. It has longer battery life, a built-in S Pen, not one but two telephoto cameras (50MP 5x/111mm and 10MP 3x/67mm), plus a higher resolution 50MP ultra-wide. If you prefer smaller phones – shorter and narrower, not just thinner like the Edge – the Samsung Galaxy S25 is one of the few petite flagships. This generation got bumped up to 12GB of RAM, bringing it on par with the rest of the S25 series. Next up, tablets. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ and Tab S10 Ultra chose the Dimensity 9300+ over a Snapdragon chip. They have expandable storage, a water-resistant frame, bundled S Pen and DeX support. The Ultra is as large as Android tablets go at 14.6', while the Plus has a 12.4' display. If you want something even smaller, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 is the current 11' flagship. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and has two more OS updates to go (it launched on Android 13 and is currently on 15). We've been hearing murmurs of smaller Tab S11 models, but there's nothing official yet. Alternatively, you can get the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE – this one has a 10.9' display, but it's a 90Hz IPS LCD instead of a 120Hz OLED like on the premium Tab S models. And it has less processing power with the Exynos 1580, also the USB-C port does not support video out. The FE models are cheaper, though, and you can still get a fairly large screen if you want it – the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ has a 13.1' panel. We may get a commission from qualifying sales.

With iPhone 17 and Galaxy S26, Apple and Samsung are diverging hardware strategies
Apple and Samsung smartphones have often been called identical in many ways, and to an extent that is very true: modern flagship phones don't differ much in power and cameras. However, two separate reports have come in from reputable sources about the Galaxy S26, and it seems that it will differ in one key aspect compared to the iPhone reports, courtesy of two reliable sources, pertain to both companies' upcoming flagship products: the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. While previous reports have alleged that the next Pro Max will increase in thickness, these new reports add on to that and reveal that the Ultra will be even slimmer. From what I can tell, Samsung is applying its design philosophy for the Galaxy S25 Edge to its top tier model, while Apple is opting for more battery space instead. If current rumors ( not confirmed reports ) are anything to go by, then the iPhone 17 Pro Max will come with a 5,000 mAh battery. However, so will the S26 Ultra , with some predicting that Samsung may finally use denser battery technology to achieve the same capacity in less space. The S25 Ultra continued Samsung's trend of 5,000 mAh batteries. | Video credit — Samsung According to the reports, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be 8.76 mm thick, and the S26 Ultra will be less than 8 mm but over 7 mm. The current iPhone 16 Pro Max is 8.25 mm thick, which means that Apple is no longer trying to slim down its flagship model each year. If an Apple user wants a slimmer experience, they'll have to go for the iPhone 17 Air, which will only have a battery capacity of 2,800 is doing what I've been wanting phone companies to do for a long time: increasing battery capacity instead of slimming down an already very slim phone. And if Samsung really is continuing to slim down its phones, then the following few years will introduce a major difference between the iPhone and Galaxy phones. Chinese phones are hitting the limit of silicon batteries, with some phones even reaching 8,000 mAh capacities: like the Honor Power. While 5,000 mAh on the iPhone 17 Pro Max isn't much, it's still more than its predecessor. I'm glad that at least one of these two top dogs is moving in what I think is the right direction.
