Kendrick Lamar is Chanel's newest brand ambassador

'Not Like Us' rapper Kendrick Lamar stars in Chanel's latest eyewear campaign in his first move as the luxury house's brand ambassador.
Kendrick Lamar is bringing his artistry and creativity to luxury fashion. The Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper has officially joined Chanel as a brand ambassador, starring in the fashion house's latest eyewear campaign launching Tuesday, April 22, as reported exclusively by Business of Fashion.
'I visited the Chanel ateliers and saw the process of how something goes from design to execution,' Kendrick shared in a statement. 'Seeing the people who work hard and bring these visions to life resonates with me.' That attention to detail? Right in line with Dot's creative DNA.
Now, the 'Luther' rapper is no stranger to elevating his aesthetic. In the song's music video, Lamar is already seen flexing in Chanel frames, a subtle nod to this very collab.
'Chanel has a timeless legacy and that is always something I can get behind,' he added. 'Since they don't make clothes for men, I knew it would have to be glasses.'
Photographed by Karim Sadli, the campaign places Kendrick alongside other bold-faced Chanel ambassadors, but this moment feels especially full circle. He previously rocked a custom quilted Chanel bomber courtesy of the brand's former creative director, Virginie Viard, at the 2023 Met Gala. That same year, Dot and his creative partner Dave Free helped conceptualize Chanel's haute couture show set and directed its buzzy short film 'The Button,' starring none other than Naomi Campbell and Margaret Qualley.
With Lamar now aligned with Chanel and style heavyweights like A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams co-chairing this year's Met Gala, it's hard not to wonder: Is this collab setting the stage for Dot's return to the Met Gala and debut on the Met Gala steps?

Robin Williams' haunting final days resurface as ‘Night at the Museum' franchise returns

Nearly two decades after Robin Williams first brought Teddy Roosevelt to life in 'Night at the Museum,' the family-friendly film franchise is getting a reboot — this time with a new cast, an original storyline and a fresh voice guiding the script. Production company 21 Laps has begun developing the reimagining for 20th Century Studios, with Tripper Clancy set to pen the screenplay. Shawn Levy, who directed the original trilogy, will return as producer alongside Dan Levine, maintaining creative continuity for a series that has grossed more than $1.3 billion worldwide, according to Deadline. The reboot will reportedly remain set in the same type of enchanted museum where exhibits spring to life after dark, but will introduce an entirely new slate of characters. It marks the franchise's first live-action installment since 2014's 'Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb' — a film now remembered as Williams' final live-action role. Behind the scenes of that film, Williams was already exhibiting signs of serious struggle, Levy revealed in the 2020 documentary 'Robin's Wish.' 'I would say a month into the shoot, it was clear to me, it was clear to all of us on set, that something was going on with Robin,' Levy said. 'We saw that Robin was struggling in a way that he hadn't before, to remember lines and to combine the right words with the performance.' Though Williams had spoken publicly about his battles with depression, it wasn't until after his death that his family disclosed he had been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia — a neurological disorder that severely affected his memory and confidence. The toll of the disease became evident in Williams' late-night phone calls to Levy. 'When Robin would call me at 10 at night, at two in the morning, at four in the morning, saying, 'Is it usable? Is any of this usable? Do I suck? What's going on? ' I would reassure him,' Levy said in the documentary. 'I said, 'You are still you. I know it. The world knows it. You just need to remember that.'' Williams died by suicide at age 63 in his Marin County home in August 2014, just four months before the film's release. He is also remembered for his roles in 1997's Oscar-winning 'Good Will Hunting,' 1993's 'Mrs. Doubtfire' and 1996's 'Birdcage.' 'My faith in him never left, but I saw his morale crumbling,' Levy added. 'I saw a guy that wasn't himself, and that was unforgivable.' While plot details remain under wraps, the reboot will be the first entry in the franchise since the 2022 animated feature 'Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again,' released on Disney+. Levy is also preparing to direct 'Star Wars: Starfighter,' starring Ryan Gosling, while original leading man Ben Stiller has shifted his focus behind the camera, producing the acclaimed series 'Severance.' In recent days, a resurfaced comedy clip has rekindled admiration for Williams' sharp political humor. In a 2012 stand-up set, the comedian skewered then-real estate mogul Donald Trump, likening Atlantic City to the 'Wizard of Oz on acid' filled with 'junkies, pimps and pizza.' 'And Donald Trump is the Wizard of Oz, he is the guy,' Williams said. 'He plays monopoly with real f—ing buildings. This is a scary man.' Williams didn't hold back, skewering Trump's beauty pageant empire. 'He owns all these beauty pageants, Miss America, Miss Universe,' he said. 'Isn't that a bit like Michael Vick owning a series of pet stores?' Williams didn't hold back, skewering Trump's beauty pageant empire; taking aim at Trump's infamous hairstyle and at the mogul's controversial remark about his daughter Ivanka being 'hot.' 'Even people in Arkansas went, 'that's f—ing wrong,'' Williams said. 'That's just way out of place.'

Larry David teams with the Obamas for HBO U.S. history sketch show

Larry David will bring his grumbly sensibility to U.S. history in a team-up with Barack and Michelle Obama for an HBO sketch show. The 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' creator and 'Seinfeld' co-creator will act as executive producer, writer and star of the limited series consisting of six half-hour episodes, HBO announced Thursday, July 10. The show will be produced by the Obamas' company, Higher Ground. The forthcoming show marks the 78-year-old David's return to the network just over a year after the end of the 12th and final season of 'Curb Your Enthusiasm.' His 'Curb' showrunner Jeff Schaffer will co-write and direct episodes. HBO did not give a premiere date, but the show is meant to mark the nation's 250th anniversary next year. The series doesn't have a title yet but it has a promotional logline: 'President and Mrs. Obama wanted to honor America's 250th anniversary and celebrate the unique history of our nation on this special occasion. … But then Larry David called.' And statements from some of the principals suggest the tone it will take. 'Once 'Curb' ended, I celebrated with a three-day foam party. After a violent allergic reaction to the suds, I yearned to return to my simple life as a beekeeper, harvesting organic honey from the wildflowers in my meadow,' David said. 'Alas, one day my bees mysteriously vanished. And so, it is with a heavy heart that I return to television, hoping to ease the loss of my beloved hive.' In his statement, Barack Obama said, 'I've sat across the table from some of the world's most difficult leaders and wrestled with some of our most intractable problems. Nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David.' The Obamas got into the entertainment business by launching Higher Ground in 2018, saying they wanted to raise the prominence of new, diverse voices and expand the range of conversation in the industry. They signed production agreements with Netflix and Spotify soon after. Their involvement has had a high profile in some productions, but they've kept more of a background role in others. Their shows and films have included the Oscar-winning documentary 'American Factory,' the kids series 'Waffles + Mochi,' and the movies 'Rustin' and 'Leave the World Behind.' David, known for his sitcoms and stand-up, has some experience in sketch work. He was a writer and star on ABC's 'Saturday Night Live' knockoff 'Fridays' in the early 1980s, and later wrote briefly for 'SNL' itself.
