The event is hosted by the Florida Disaster Foundation and celebrates the dedication and collective achievement to emergency management seen across the state, including right here in Northeast Florida.
First Alert Meteorologist Trevor Gibbs was there to accept the first-ever News Flash Award for outstanding coverage of the 2024 Hurricane Season and tornado warnings in St. Johns County.

St. Johns County firefighters respond to house fire that was possibly caused by lightning strike
St. Johns County Fire Rescue is responding to a house fire that was possibly caused by a lightning strike. It happened Friday evening in the 100 block of Willow Island Point in the Silverleaf subdivision. It's off St. Johns Parkway and south of County Road 210. SJCFR found the home 'heavily involved' with fire with flames coming from the roof. Firefighters confirmed that everyone got out of the house safely before they arrived. Washington enters the stretch when each day's average high is 90
Summer has its landmarks, the days that signal significant stages in the progress of the season, and in the nation's capital, Sunday was one of them, although perhaps not as widely or eagerly observed as some. In Washington, according to National Weather Service figures, Sunday was the first day of the year with an average high temperature of 90. Three full weeks of such days follow, according to Weather Service records.

Tropical Strom Andrea is first named storm of 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season
June 24 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Andrea formed off the U.S. Atlantic Coast on Tuesday morning becoming the first named storm of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, according to the National Hurricane Center. In its 11 a.m. AST update, the NHC said Andrea's center was located around 1,205 miles west of the Azores as the storm carried maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. Andrea is also currently moving east-northeast at 17 mph and is forecast to continue in that direction for around another day. The storm is expected to weaken Tuesday night and then dissipate by Wednesday evening. The Hurricane Center reported Tuesday that Andrea is not currently affecting any land mass, and will have an update on the storm at 5 p.m.
