On June 21, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered strikes on Iran as American B-2 bombers struck Iranian nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The U.S. entry into the conflict against Iran comes more than a week after Israel launched a June 13 pre-emptive strike on Iran, targeting its nuclear program and key military leaders.
The following week brought mutual airstrikes between Iran and Israel, which elicited a burst of threats by Iran-backed proxies in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, against U.S. military bases and personnel across the region, including action to block international maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and Bab Al-Mandab.[1]
Iranian Surface-To-Air Missile 358 And Missile 359 "Lurk, [Looking] For" Israeli Reconnaissance And Refueling Aircraft Over Iraqi Airspace
On June 21, the "Naya" Telegram channel, which supports Iran-backed militias in Iraq, cited an unidentified source in the Iraqi resistance factions warning that Iraqi airspace could become "an unsafe area for hostile Zionist aircraft," namely, slower aircraft such as refueling planes, airborne radar system Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS), and SIGINT (Signals Intelligence) aircraft, and various kinds of freight planes and drones.
According to the channel, Iranian surface-to-air missiles, type 358 and 359, continue to "lurk, looking for enemy aircraft on Iraqi territory."[2]
Jordan Is Israel's Gatekeeper
In the aftermath of the U.S. strikes and ensuing retaliatory attacks by Iran against multiple areas in Israel, the channel reported the presence of U.S. aircraft over Jordanian airspace and that sirens sounded in neighboring Jordan.
In this regard, the channel condemned the Kingdom's position and indirect involvement in the war, by allegedly intercepting missiles over Jordanian airspace. A cartoon features King Abdullah II of Jordan, portraying him as a goalkeeper in an Israeli jersey stamped with the Star of David, trying to intercept a missile. The net behind him shows the goalkeeper had conceded a few "goals," hinting at Iran's success in reaching its targets, regardless of Jordan's involvement.[3]
Use Of Jordanian and Iraqi Airspace During Operation Midnight Hammer Is "A Source Of Eternal Disgrace"
On June 22, the channel shared a graphic showing the timeline of aircraft deployed to carry out U.S. military's Operation Midnight Hammer. Commenting, the channel argued that aircraft flying over the Jordanian and Iraqi airspace is a source of "eternal disgrace" to both countries.[4]
Threat To Southern Israel: "The Strikes Will Continue"
Telegram channel "Naya" shared a short video in Persian showing what appears to be a 3D aerial photograph of the nuclear reactor in Dimona in southern Israel. The accompanying text described Dimona as "one of the most sensitive Zionist military infrastructure facilities," and warned Israeli "settlers" to "leave the occupied land immediately." The strikes will continue," the channel declared.[5]
