The exhibition features a diverse programme including a display of mango varieties, scientific posters, a section dedicated to mango propagation, cultivation and crop care, a seedling sales corner, and specialised platforms for farmers, rural women, partners, and sponsors. It will also host scientific workshops focused on mango cultivation.
The event brings together mango farmers and marketers from across the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, alongside private sector companies operating in the agricultural sector and the field of mango farming.
The exhibition aims to highlight the ministry's efforts in promoting mango cultivation, introduce local and imported varieties, support farmers in marketing their produce, and raise awareness about seedling propagation and agricultural practices. Drones, smart irrigation spearhead Oman's agricultural push

Muscat – The use of smart agriculture technologies is being expanded in Oman to enhance food security and resource sustainability in line with Vision 2040 objectives, according to officials at Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR). Modern techniques – including hydroponics, smart irrigation systems and drones – are increasingly being adopted across the country, although officials say these are still in the early stages of implementation in the sector and largely focused on research initiatives and private sector investments. Badriya Saif al Hosni, Head of Smart Agriculture Department in the Directorate General of Agriculture and Livestock Research, said the strategy aims to integrate technology into traditional agricultural systems. 'One of the most prominent features of the ministry's strategy is digital transformation of services and adoption of modern technologies to increase crop productivity and reduce costs,' she said. 'We are also working to empower farmers with smart agriculture tools.' Badriya informed that projects underway include aquaponics systems, precision agriculture based on climate data, drone-assisted pest control and pollination, and solar-powered greenhouses. Smart irrigation systems, which use soil moisture sensors, are also being deployed to improve efficiency. Training is a core part of the government's approach. 'The ministry offers specialised training courses for farmers on drone operations, soilless farming and the use of mobile apps in farm management,' she said. Pilot projects have been introduced across governorates to support the transfer of knowledge to small-scale farmers. Badriya, however, acknowledged that challenges remain. 'One of the most prominent challenges is the disparity in digital infrastructure across governorates, along with the need to raise technical awareness among some farmers.' High operating and maintenance costs also limit adoption in certain areas. To support adoption, the government is allocating annual budgets and encouraging partnerships with the private sector. Development Bank offers soft loans to small farmers to purchase equipment, while agricultural associations help facilitate access to shared smart farming technologies. Badriya said MAFWR continues to be committed to balancing innovation with tradition. 'We are integrating modern technologies within systems like aflaj to preserve heritage while improving efficiency.'

Major agri-tourism projects on the anvil in Jabal Akhdar

Jabal Akhdar – Dakhliyah authorities are advancing plans to transform Jabal Akhdar into a hub for integrated agricultural and eco-tourism development with new investment projects announced during a high-level meeting held last week in the wilayat. Chaired by Sheikh Hilal bin Saeed al Hajri, Governor of Dakhliyah, the meeting brought together Sheikh Sultan Mansour al Ghaithy, Wali of Jabal Akhdar, and Masoud Sulaiman al Azri, Director General of Agricultural and Fisheries Marketing at Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. The proposed project includes several key components, most notably a honey museum featuring exhibits on the history of Omani bees, a sorting unit, a laboratory and space for environmental education. Also planned is a rose farm, a rosewater distillation factory with public viewing area and retail space for locally produced rose products. The investment plan further includes development of an olive farm and a public park, aimed at promoting sustainable tourism practices tied to local agriculture. Officials confirmed that the project will be implemented under a corporate investment system in partnership with private sector entities. A joint technical team has been formed comprising governorate and ministry officials to assess rainwater harvesting and terrace rehabilitation projects. The objective, according to officials, is to improve water resource efficiency and preserve the traditional mountain farming heritage. Following the meeting, the governor conducted a site visit to review ongoing agricultural efforts across the wilayat.
