HFMD Cases In Johor Spike By 20 Pct In 17th Week, JB District Has Most Cases
JOHOR BAHRU, April 29 (Bernama) -- Childcare centres in the state have been asked to take additional precautions following a 20.5 per cent (pct) increase in Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) cases in the 17th epidemiological week (WE) compared to the previous week.
State executive councillor for Health and Environment Ling Tian Soon said HFMD cases in the 17th WE (April 21-27) were 1,441 cases compared to 1,196 cases in the 16th WE, with Johor Bahru recording the highest number of 386 cases.
He said this was followed by Batu Pahat (254 cases), Kluang (192), Kota Tinggi (140), Tangkak (134), Muar (128), Pontian (94), Segamat (47), Mersing (37) and Kulai (29).
"In Johor, most of the HFMD cases occur among children aged between 0-to-6 years old with a cumulative record of 8,085 cases followed by the 7-to-12 age group with 1,512 cases.
"There are 74 clusters recorded to date, involving 24 clusters in kindergartens, 19 in pre-schools, 17 in nurseries, 12 in daycare centres and one case each in primary schools and private residence," Ling said in a statement today.
He added that following the trend of rising HFMD cases in the state, two 'alert' letters were issued by the Johor Health Department (JKNJ) as a control and prevention measure.
According to him, the 'alert' letters were issued to all hospital directors and district health officers, as well as another letter issued to the Johor Education director, Johor KEMAS director and to the Johor State director of the National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN).
'Both letters were issued to help reduce the risk of infection and spread of HFMD at their facilities.
'For these childcare facilities, Educators and caretakers are advised to strengthen screening activities, isolate children or students with symptoms (fever, mouth sores, rashes on hand and feet) and encourage them to go home, as well as report any cases that occur to the nearest health office immediately,' he said.

AADK Introduces New Holistic Drug Treatment And Rehabilitation Module
BANDAR BAHARU, July 20 (Bernama) -- The new treatment and rehabilitation module introduced by the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) emphasises a holistic, client-friendly and evidence-based approach. AADK director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said the new module is the agency's effort to strengthen the country's drug addiction or abuse treatment and rehabilitation system in line with current needs. The launch of this new module is a significant step for AADK in ensuring that treatment and rehabilitation methods and approaches remain relevant to current changes, particularly those involving drug addiction issues. "Furthermore, this module was designed in collaboration with all parties, encompassing a biopsychosocial-spiritual integrated approach and evidence-based treatment and rehabilitation methods," he told reporters after officiating the AADK Open Day at the Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (PUSPEN) here today. Also present were Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department acting director Datuk Mat Zani@Mohd Salahuddin Che Ali, AADK Treatment, Medical and Rehabilitation Division director Siti Mariam Mursidan, and Bandar Baharu district officer Mohd Noor Ismail. Malaysia, Singapore To Strengthen Ties In Govtech, Housing And Public Sector Reform
PUTRAJAYA, July 20 (Bernama) – Malaysia and Singapore are now exploring strategic cooperation in three main areas – GovTech, public housing and public sector reform – to strengthen public service delivery. Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said these were the main areas of collaboration identified during his three-day official working visit to Singapore beginning Friday (July 18). 'We want to learn from Singapore. Firstly, in regard to GovTech, as they have already implemented it, while we are in the process of launching our own. 'Secondly, their affordable housing through the Singapore Housing Board. And thirdly, we want to learn about reforms in the public service,' he said. He was speaking to reporters after launching the Sports Carnival of the Alumni Association of MRSM Malaysia (ANSARA Malaysia) here today. Shamsul Azri said Singapore welcomed the cooperation and exchange of best practices between the two countries to improve the quality of public service. 'Singapore welcomed our proposals… we also had sessions with them to discuss strategic cooperation between the Malaysian government and the Singaporean government,' he added. Earlier, in his speech, he urged Malaysians to adopt a healthy lifestyle through sports and good nutrition.
